I'm drinking a virgin margarita. It keeps taunting me by smelling like a real margarita. Damn you for teasing me with booze, you delicious monstrosity, you. *guzzles*

Anyway, in other news, it's Friday, which means it's the day after payday, which means I went DVD shopping. And it's so nice when my mother's expert shopping abilities kick in for DVD shopping, because I got five DVDs for sixty bucks. Woohoo! *happy dance*

What I got:

-- His Girl Friday ... Dude, it's Cary Grant! And I've never seen it! And best of all, it was five bucks. In the words of a past post, travesty! Also, mineminemine!
-- While You Were Sleeping ... Any movie that can make Bill Pullman look adorable AND keep Sandra Bullock from being too obnoxious, I can love. Also, Peter Gallagher. Oh, and that is so my family, if they were blended with the family in Home For The Holidays.
-- Sneakers ... Does it require an explanation? No.
-- The Thomas Crown Affair ... Which isn't here now, because I made Bosslady take it home and watch it this weekend. She made the passing mention that she liked Pierce Brosnan and hadn't see the movie and I pretty much forced her at mock-gunpoint to take it home.
-- Sense and Sensibility ... Because God knows, if I'm going to own every Hugh Grant movie through no fault of my own, I should have this one. Not that I can't recite good chunks of it from memory, but whatever.

Also, has anybody else seen the cover of this week's People? I was pissed off before I even read it, and for good reason -- because the cover is Britney Spears and Kevin Federline with his daughter. Okay, look, if you wanted to waste a cover evry month for the last few months giving People exclusive interviews in which you make inane comments about your relationship and take smarmy photos in which you cling obsessively to one another, fine. But, this right here? This just irritated the piss out of me. So you have Kevin, smiling completely obliviously for the camera while his poor kid sits next to him looking like a brainwashed hostage, and next to her with this toothy, terrifying grin is Mommie Deare-- er, I mean, Britney. Gyah. *shudders*

His Girl Friday was very cute. That's the one with Katherine Hepburn, right? She was singularly awesome.

Mm, Sneakers.

Isn't it time for Britney to tank really bad and fade into obscurity yet?

you're probably thinking of The Philadelphia Story. or Bringing Up Baby. (HGF is Rosalind Russell.)

not that i'm a huge Grant/Hepbrun freak or anything. ;)

LOL

Yeah, it was Philadelphia Story I had it confused with. I've been on a steady diet of like ten new (to me) movies a week for the last few months, so my brain has problems keeping it all straight.

His Girl Friday was still very cool though, TP. They made a remake with Burt Reynolds and Kathleen Turner, so it might feel like deja vu. But Rosalind Russell and Cary Grant kick their asses.

HGF is a great one to own - with all the fast, overlapping dialogue, you can watch it again and again and nearly always come out with a line you missed the last time through.

in fact, i may watch it again right now. :)

Nice choices. You should really start shopping for DVDs here, because the five of them come to $48.35 at that site, with free shipping.

I'm feeding your addiction! I'm an enabler. :)

*cries* I want those DVD's....at least those I don't already own...except perhaps for Thomas Crown Affair which I've never really had a chance to see. Woe.

I got His Girl Friday for five bucks...but with three other Cary Grant movies on the DVD as well! Joy!

I didn't even know Sneakers WAS on DVD! *blinks*

*covets*

I love that movie. It never fails to amuse me that he throws in a reference to "Archie Leach" in that movie. Cary Grant is my all time favorite actor. Okay, so there may be more talented actors out there, but I just love him.

[In case anyone didn't know, "Archie Leach" is Cary Grant's real name.]

I feel very proud of myself that I knew that, actually.

This will spam up the comments, but I feel that I must ask. What's your favorite Cary Grant movie?

That is so difficult to answer. It's either "Bringing Up Baby" or "Charade." Depends on my mood, I guess. I just can't narrow it down any more than that.

Oh, I love Charade. He's wonderful in that, plus it has Audrey Hepburn and James Coburn.

Do you mind if I friend you?

I tried to watch Thomas Crown. But...when it turned into a bad, bad copy of Law And Order I turned it off. All those cops, acting like horny teenagers just because Russo was confident in herself...argh.
