I'm declaring it International Recommend-A-Movie Day. This means everyone should go to their LJ right now and tell their friends to watch a really good movie which most of them probably have not seen. And then tell more people to do it. Hopefully, we'll all have lots and lots of recommendations by the end of the day.
Let's see ... *scans DVD collection* ... well, damn it. I can't decide on one, so I'm picking three.
Billy Elliot: Plot: A little boy in England in the early '80s dreams of becoming a ballet dancer. Why you should watch it: Ballet! Sexual orientation confusion! Also, Jamie Bell is just incredibly adorable and sweet.
The Long Kiss Goodnight: Plot: Geena Davis has amnesia, and it turns out she's really a professional assassin. Why you should watch it: Let me repeat that -- Geena Davis has amnesia, and it turns out she's really a professional assassin. Living in Honesdale. I was born in Honesdale. Some movie writer put a professional assassin in my crappy-ass birthplace. I know that doesn't make any sense, but I really don't give a damn.
Sneakers: Plot: A team of guys that break into places to check their security systems get chased by all kinds of people for a little black box they steal. Why you should watch it: Because the dialogue is imminently quotable, and really, where else are you going to see Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, Ben Kingsley, Jamea Earl Jones, Dan Ackroyd, and River Phoenix in the same movie?

And thus began my adolescent obsession with the name Charlie...
