Girl with rare disease doesn't feel pain. Wow. That is so incredibly weird, and God knows I someone who reads that is bound to get a story idea from it.

Also, I have no clue why, but I've been watching a Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman episode. And just for good measure, it's a clip show. 'Cause hey, the world needs more proof that there might be another character who's as much of a karmic menace on a town as Jessica Fletcher.

Also, an article from CNN about the whole Redskins election thing. I only link it because of this quote -- "Oh, yeah, he's going to win. It's guaranteed," said Packers safety Darren Sharper, a Kerry supporter. "I don't have to vote now. Don't even have to go to the polls. Saved me a trip on Tuesday." Uh, no, you dumbass. That's why you have to go to the polls. If we all sat back and said, "Yay! They won! Kerry will win! We don't have to go!", it kind of wouldn't work, would it?

I remember reading about this before. Most of the people with that and related conditions die before they're 30. Even if nothing catastrophic happens, there's just too much wear and tear on their bodies. If you're sewing on a button, and you stab yourself, you'll be more careful. They can't feel it, so they might not be. And it adds up.

I saw a documentary on two toddlers with that disorder. One of them had bitten off so much of her tongue, her parents made her wear a gag when she wasn't eating. The other kid had bitten off and eaten the tip of his tongue, so his parents had all his baby teeth removed.

I guess it would get easier once they were older and could understand that eating your own tongue was a bad idea, but the bit between ages 1 and 4 must have been an absolute nightmare for their parents

Wow. I actually had a friend with the opposite problem. For some reason, one day when he was about 11 years old, all the nerves in his legs suddenly began to interpret every single sensation as pain. Even the sensation of the hair growing caused him agony - level ten pain, all the time. It's under control now, but he couldn't walk for most of his teen years.

Dammit, you would mention that as a story idea on the first day of NaNo, wouldn't you?

Oh wow. Yeah, I saw a story about another kid like that a few months, back, and she looked much worse than that -- she'd already hurt herself severely and was badly scarred, at about that age. Heartbreaking stuff.

Oh yeah. Saw something on tv recently about a toddler girl with that problem. She has to wear a helmet all the time, and she's your typical spastic happy toddler. But I've been told that when they reach adulthood they're practically crippled from all the injuries sustained as a child.

It's weird to watch your kid throwing herself out a window or off a playground toy, breaking a leg, and keeping on keeping on.

We learn it in the hard way in France, waiting for Chirac and Jospin in the first tour, and we had Chirac and LePen.

Chirac won with 92% of voices.

And for Dr. Quinn, you could explain five seconds in the episode, and I could summary it. Sad, I know.
