Yeah, CNN said it meant that our debt just became 70% of our gross national product.

Save your pennies, folks, and learn to polish apples, because Depression II is a-comin'!

Oh. My. Fucking. God.

And I thought my friend R was just exaggerating when he called Bush a "credit card republican".

I think I need to lie down now.

I wish I could get a credit limit increase that big. But I know I'd just spend it all.

But just think about how cool it will be that you AND your great-great-great-great-great grandchildren will be paying for the exact same war. Isn't that awesome?

Strangely enough, I was just talking to my dad about where the country was headed fiscally, and while this didn't come up specifically, it falls right into line with his predictions about the problems to come. *sigh*

At least Joh Kerry won't be in office to be blamed when our economy implodes.

Saving your pennies is the worst thing you can do. Increased deficit spending equals greater inflation, equals a devaluation of the currency.

Put your money into inflation hedges instead!

Why do I now have a vision in my head of Bush on the phone with Consumer Credit Counceling asking for assistance in consolidating this country's debt?

"So, what is your name, sir?"

"George Bush... I'm representing the United States of America."

"Okay, so, how much do you owe, approximately?"

"Several trillian dollars. But it's okay, cause I just got an increase of 800 billion on my spending limit."

Ah, thank you, Mr. President, for confirming all my worst suspicions about you.

I really think this guy is the beginning of the end for the Republican Party. By being so fiscally irresponsible he's going to end up pissing off the fiscal conservatives and neocon types. The big split and disaster in the party structure won't come for a while, but it will come. I think.

O small cute animal of the night

*meep*!

where can I find some o' those

Anything of real value can be an inflation hedge. Assuming a stable real estate market, property is an inflation hedge. Products that are not outdated by technological progress can be. (I.e., you wouldn't want to invest in televisions, since they don't hold value. But other things, like good furniture, do.)

And, of course, gold, silver, and platinum have been excellent inflation hedges throughout history -- and can be purchased in varying quantities and values.

Another option is to find a way to put your money into diversified foreign currencies, such as the Swiss Franc, Euro, British Pound, and Canadian Dollar. But gold bullion is the safest bet.
