Nov. 27th, 2004 07:16 pmIf I don't see any more commercials for the next month that feature carolers randomly singing to shoppers for them to buy stuff, it'll make me happy.
Today at the movies, the only decent trailer was a newer version for A Series of Unfortunate Events. I'm starting to get the impression that I'll really like the movie as long as I don't read the books. (They'd better post the newer version on Apple Trailers soon so I can icon the shot of Sunny looking up at Count Olaf. I have no idea what caption to put on it, but still ... cute.)
So I went over and read the comments in the LJ of the 16-year-old girl who had her mom killed. She's wrong, she did the worst thing she could have possibly done in that situation, she admitted she was involved in the crime, and she's probably going to jail. But the childishness ("Posting on a notorious LJ thread! Wheeeee!") and the rage ("I hope your psycho cellmate stuffs everything not nailed down into a very uncomfortable place of yours!", but with more cursing) in the comments over there make me want to throw up. Some of those people are behaving so badly they're losing the right to lecture her on her lack of maturity. And the people defending her? Need a smack upside the head with a clue stick.
I can't decide whether to do a Q&A review of a movie later or do a Category 6-esque summary of one of those extremely crappy disaster movies I still haven't watched yet. Bah. I'll figure it out eventually.
EDIT: USA Network just edited "motherfuckers" to "motherdaughters" and "Kick your ass" to "Kick your back." I don't care if the movie is utter crap, that's still wrong.
STUPID MOVIE VIEWER OF EDIT: From AICN ... Brett Leonard, the Australian-based director who allegedly made MAN-THING (how can any of us verify that if the film is never released?) will next be turning his considerable and debatable talent to HIGHLANDER 5, in which it turns out that the entire population of the world is a Highlander except for one man. The tagline? "There Can't Be Only One". *eyes warily, then edges away as quickly as I dare* That had better be a joke. Especially the part that makes a Highlander 5 seem wanted and desired.
Then a little further down in the same article ...
Brett Leonard promises to ignore the crap continuity in HIGHLANDER 2, and will reveal the Highlanders to be the result of a futuristic genetic experiment gone wrong and sent back in time to kill the woman who will give birth to the scientist who made them.
...
*gawks*
You know, at the same time that I loathe that explanation with the fire of a thousand suns, I could write a kickass Terminator/Highlander crossover with that idea.

Date: 2004-11-27 05:33 pm (UTC)I know it's considered cowardly to post anon, but the sheer number of people who felt it was OK to troll her friends' LJs openly is a bit stunning, like, "shouldn't you be a bit more cowardly about tarring people she met on the internet with the same brush?"
Verdict: if batshit insanity could produce energy, folks on all sides of this trainwreck would own several members of congress.

Date: 2004-11-28 09:31 am (UTC)I remember a few months ago, I saw one Old Navy commercial that made me think that maybe they don't hate me after all. But they do. For some reason they're doing all they can to prevent my patronage.

Date: 2004-11-28 08:39 pm (UTC)Strangely, yesterday I'd have said that we were the city and the population of those comment threads were the residents of this tiny little place called Scary Alley that was best left avoided. But now I'm not so sure of the relative size.
That's probably because my skin is also trying to crawl off my body, though, and I'm over-affected.
