apocalypsos: (blackout)
[personal profile] apocalypsos
Holy crap, I just realized that I never picked who I thought would win the Golden Globes. (I just squeed like a nutcase when the nominations came out.) So anyway, time to ramble ...

BEST MOTION PICTURE - DRAMA

THE AVIATOR
CLOSER
FINDING NEVERLAND
HOTEL RWANDA
KINSEY
MILLION DOLLAR BABY

What I want to win: Okay, considering I've only seen two of the movies in this category, I'm at a disadvantage. But I'd really like Finding Neverland to win, simply because I like to root for anything Johnny Depp does, and besides, that movie made me bawl.

What's going to win: Either The Aviator, which I really can't fault because it was an excellent movie, or Million Dollar Baby, which it would be nice to see if it were, you know, easy to find a freakin' showing of it. *sigh*

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE — DRAMA

JAVIER BARDEM — THE SEA INSIDE
DON CHEADLE — HOTEL RWANDA
JOHNNY DEPP — FINDING NEVERLAND
LEONARDO DICAPRIO — THE AVIATOR
LIAM NEESON — KINSEY

Whom I want to win: Either Johnny Depp or Leonardo DiCaprio. Johnny, because he deserves every award he can win, and Leonardo, because I really thought he did a great job with Howard Hughes and his tics.

Who will win: Luckily, I think I win in this category, since the last time I checked, Johnny and Leo were the forerunners. But I keep hearing Javier Bardem being mentioned by people, so I wouldn't be surprised if he picked it up. I'm leaning towards Leo, though.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE — MUSICAL OR COMEDY

ANNETTE BENING — BEING JULIA
ASHLEY JUDD — DE-LOVELY
EMMY ROSSUM — ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER'S THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
KATE WINSLET — ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND
RENEE ZELLWEGER — BRIDGET JONES: THE EDGE OF REASON

Whom I want to win: Kate Winslet. Oh, God, Kate Winslet.

Who will win: Either Kate (*crosses fingers*) or Annette Bening, although I'm thinking it'll be Annette Bening because Hollywood awards shows like aging actresses playing aging actresses.

BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM

THE CHORUS (LES CHORISTES) (FRANCE)
HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS (CHINA)
THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES (BRAZIL)
THE SEA INSIDE (SPAIN)
A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT (FRANCE)

What I want to win: Sadly, I've seen none of these, but I'm rooting for The Motorcycle Diaries because Gael Garcia Bernal is in it and he's hot. (Me? Superficial?)

Who will win: I'm betting House of Flying Daggers. Awards shows like pretty martial arts. (See also: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.)

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE

DAVID CARRADINE — KILL BILL VOL. 2
THOMAS HADEN CHURCH — SIDEWAYS
JAMIE FOXX — COLLATERAL
MORGAN FREEMAN — MILLION DOLLAR BABY
CLIVE OWEN — CLOSER

Whom I want to win: Anybody who wins in this category would make me happy. Seriously, anybody. I'd love for Jamie Foxx to win, because I re-watched Collateral before and it's fresh in my mind, but I'm not rooting for anybody in this one because it's a good, strong group of actors.

Who will win: I've got ten bucks cents that says Thomas Haden Church takes it home.

BEST SCREENPLAY — MOTION PICTURE

CHARLIE KAUFMAN — ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND
JOHN LOGAN — THE AVIATOR
DAVID MAGEE — FINDING NEVERLAND
PATRICK MARBER — CLOSER
ALEXANDER PAYNE & JIM TAYLOR — SIDEWAYS

What I want to win: Personally, I always root for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind in most every category. And considering this was my favorite movie all year long ... well, yeah.

What will win: I'd guess either The Aviator or Sideways, since they're favorites in the Best Picture categories, but I'm still holding out hope for ESotSM. Although if it does win, don't expect it to win Best Picture.

BEST ORIGINAL SONG — MOTION PICTURE

"ACCIDENTALLY IN LOVE" — SHREK 2
"BELIEVE" — THE POLAR EXPRESS
"LEARN TO BE LONELY" — ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER'S THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
"MILLION VOICES" — HOTEL RWANDA
"OLD HABITS DIE HARD" — ALFIE

What I want to win: "Accidentally in Love," just because I've heard it a hundred times on the radio and I still love it.

What will win: "Old Habits Die Hard," because even if it sucked, it's still sung by Mick Jagger.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE — DRAMA

SCARLETT JOHANSSON — A LOVE SONG FOR BOBBY LONG
NICOLE KIDMAN — BIRTH
IMELDA STAUNTON — VERA DRAKE
HILARY SWANK — MILLION DOLLAR BABY
UMA THURMAN — KILL BILL VOL. 2

Whom I want to win: You mean, aside from "Anybody but Nicole Kidman"? Uma Thurman. C'mon, give the woman an award, damn it. That role derserved any award it could get her.

Who will win: Imelda Staunton, whom I can root for because I've liked her work in the past, or Hilary Swank, who's heavily-favored this year. The both of them keep winning all the Best Actress awards.

BEST MOTION PICTURE — MUSICAL OR COMEDY

ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND
THE INCREDIBLES
ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER'S THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
RAY
SIDEWAYS

What I want to win: In this category, anything but Phantom works for me. (Which I liked because it was pretty, but ... uh, NO.) The other four, though, were four of my favorite movies all year long, so any of them would give me a happy.

What will win: Honestly, I think it's a three-way race between Ray, Sideways, and ESotSM. But you know, if The Incredibles did take this award, it certainly bodes well for its Oscar hopes. (I think we all know it won't get nominated for Best Picture, but then again, a few awards shows back, I would have said we all know Keisha Castle-Hughes wouldn't get nominated for an Oscar for Whale Rider, so what the hell do I know? ;))

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE -MUSICAL OR COMEDY

JIM CARREY — ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND
JAMIE FOXX — RAY
PAUL GIAMATTI — SIDEWAYS
KEVIN KLINE — DE-LOVELY
KEVIN SPACEY — BEYOND THE SEA

Whom I want to win: Jamie Foxx. Jamie Foxx, Jamie Foxx, Jamie Foxx.

Who will win: Jamie Foxx. Although, any of these guys would make a great acceptance speech.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE

CATE BLANCHETT — THE AVIATOR
LAURA LINNEY — KINSEY
VIRGINIA MADSEN — SIDEWAYS
NATALIE PORTMAN — CLOSER
MERYL STREEP — THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE

Whom I want to win: Cate Blanchett, because she made an excellent Katherine Hepburn. (And please realize that I'm watching The Philadelphia Story right now.)

Who will win: Either Cate Blanchett or Virginia Madsen, neither of which I can protest.

BEST DIRECTOR — MOTION PICTURE

CLINT EASTWOOD — MILLION DOLLAR BABY
MARC FORSTER — FINDING NEVERLAND
MIKE NICHOLS — CLOSER
ALEXANDER PAYNE — SIDEWAYS
MARTIN SCORSESE — THE AVIATOR

Whom I want to win: Martin Scorcese. Because ... okay, remember that scene in A Christmas Story, when the parents come downstairs on Christmas morning and Ralphie asks who he should give a present to first and his mother impatiently waves her hands towards his brother and says, "Well, give Randy a present," in this exasperated tone of voice? Yeah, that's why. Note that I loved the movie, but all of the talk about giving him a Best Director award is getting annoying.

Who will win: Scorcese or Clint Eastwood, both of whom are riding half on the quality of their nominated movies and half on their respective film careers.

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE — MOTION PICTURE

CLINT EASTWOOD — MILLION DOLLAR BABY
JAN A.P. KACZMAREK — FINDING NEVERLAND
ROLFE KENT — SIDEWAYS
HOWARD SHORE — THE AVIATOR

Whom I want to win: Howard Shore, because he gets points for LOTR.

Who will win: Shore or Eastwood, and I'll bet they'll try to pass off this award on Eastwood if they plan on giving Best Director to Scorcese.

BEST TELEVISION SERIES — DRAMA

24 (FOX)
DEADWOOD (HBO)
LOST (ABC)
NIP/TUCK (FX)
THE SOPRANOS (HBO)

What I want to win: Hmm. Let's think. What would I want to win in this category? *pretends to think hard*

What will win:: Well, not Deadwood. And unfortunately, probably not Lost. *unhappy sigh* I'm going to go with either Nip/Tuck or 24, because if The Sopranos wins again, I'm going to projectile vomit.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES — DRAMA

MICHAEL CHIKLIS — THE SHIELD
DENIS LEARY — RESCUE ME
JULIAN MCMAHON — NIP/TUCK
IAN MCSHANE — DEADWOOD
JAMES SPADER — BOSTON LEGAL

Whom I want to win: I love this list. I do. We shall marry, this list and I, and our union shall be bliss.

Who will win: Can Denis Leary win? Pleeeeeease? Because I really, really want to see that acceptance speech.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES — MUSICAL OR COMEDY

MARCIA CROSS — DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES
TERI HATCHER — DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES
FELICITY HUFFMAN — DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES
DEBRA MESSING — WILL & GRACE
SARAH JESSICA PARKER — SEX AND THE CITY

Whom I want to win: If either Marcia Cross or Teri Hatcher take this category, there will be glee on my part. Or Felicity Huffman, to a lesser extent. But for God's sake, Hollywood Foreign Press, stop fucking giving those other two awards. You're encouraging them, you twits.

Who will win: Marcia Cross. Please. I beg you, Hollywood Foreign Press.

BEST MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION

AMERICAN FAMILY — JOURNEY OF DREAMS (PBS)
IRON JAWED ANGELS (HBO)
THE LIFE AND DEATH OF PETER SELLERS (HBO)
THE LION IN WINTER (SHOWTIME)
SOMETHING THE LORD MADE (HBO)

What I want to win: Meh. I haven't seen any of these, so not really caring.

What will win: Eeenie, meenie, miney ... all right, Something the Lord Made.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MINI-SERIES OR A MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION

MOS DEF — SOMETHING THE LORD MADE
JAMIE FOXX — REDEMPTION
WILLIAM H. MACY — THE WOOL CAP
GEOFFREY RUSH — THE LIFE AND DEATH OF PETER SELLERS
PATRICK STEWART — THE LION IN WINTER

Whom I want to win: Patrick Stewart or Mos Def, once again just for the acceptance speeches.

Who will win: I'll say either Geoffrey Rush or William H. Macy.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A SERIES, MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION

SEAN HAYES — WILL & GRACE
MICHAEL IMPERIOLI — THE SOPRANOS
JEREMY PIVEN — ENTOURAGE
OLIVER PLATT — HUFF
WILLIAM SHATNER — BOSTON LEGAL

Whom I want to win: William Shatner, because Jesus, you know you want to see that acceptance speech most of all.

Who will win: Shatner's got a good shot, but I'm leaning towards Sean Hayes, because somestimes the Foreign Press can be really fucking predictable, or Michael Imperioli, for the same goddamn reason.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES — DRAMA

EDIE FALCO — THE SOPRANOS
JENNIFER GARNER — ALIAS
MARISKA HARGITAY — LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT
CHRISTINE LAHTI — JACK & BOBBY
JOELY RICHARDSON — NIP/TUCK

Whom I want to win: Mariska Hartigay. Olivia Benson is my hero. :)

Who will win: I'll guess Jennifer Garner, but if Edie Falco or Christine Lahti win, I reserve the right to throw things at my television screen.

BEST TELEVISION SERIES — MUSICAL OR COMEDY

ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT (FOX)
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES (ABC)
ENTOURAGE (HBO)
SEX AND THE CITY (HBO)
WILL & GRACE (NBC)

What I want to win: Either Arrested Development, which is pretty much the funniest thing on TV right now outside of The Daily Show, or Desperate Housewives, which ... okay, is overhyped, but dig past the hype and it's horribly addictive. (And I'll have to miss it tonight to watch the awards! Wah!)

What will win: I'm hoping for Arrested Development, but I'll bet Desperate Housewives takes it. Hey, as long as Sex and the City and Will and Grace don't take it (and God knows, they might just to spite me), I'll like it. (And how the hell did Entourage make this list? Every review and word-of-mouth I've seen on it was not awful, but wasn't good enough to make this list, either.)

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES — MUSICAL OR COMEDY

JASON BATEMAN — ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT
ZACH BRAFF — SCRUBS
LARRY DAVID — CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM
MATT LEBLANC — JOEY
TONY SHALHOUB — MONK
CHARLIE SHEEN — TWO AND A HALF MEN

Whom I want to win: Jesus, would somebody give Jason Bateman an award for Arrested Development already?!

Who will win: Since they're the only ones I don't like, I've got my money on Matt LeBlanc or Larry David.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MINI-SERIES OR A MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION

GLENN CLOSE — THE LION IN WINTER
BLYTHE DANNER — BACK WHEN WE WERE GROWN UPS
JULIANNA MARGULIES — THE GRID
MIRANDA RICHARDSON — THE LOST PRINCE
HILARY SWANK — IRON JAWED ANGELS

Whom I want to win: I like Glenn Close for this one. Because Glenn Close in The Lion of Winter?! The concept alone is award-worthy.

Who will win: Either Glenn Close or Hilary Swank, although I think that with Hilary, her chances are like Jamie Foxx's chances for Redeption -- lessened by their very, VERY good chances in the film nominations.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A SERIES, MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION

DREA DE MATTEO — THE SOPRANOS
ANJELICA HUSTON — IRON JAWED ANGELS
NICOLLETTE SHERIDAN — DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES
CHARLIZE THERON — THE LIFE AND DEATH OF PETER SELLERS
EMILY WATSON — THE LIFE AND DEATH OF PETER SELLERS

Whom I want to win: Emily Watson, simply because I like her most of all.

Who will win: Didn't Drea De Matteo's character die this year? So, yeah. Probably her.

'Luckily, I think I win in this category'

You were an actor in a drama? :)

'And the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Drama goes to: *crinkle unfold* ...[livejournal.com profile] trollprincess, for OMG My Coworkers Are Such Asshair Crusts and I Want to Kill Them and Then Slap the Corpses.

[livejournal.com profile] trollprincess: *is in bathroom like Christine Lahti that time a few years ago*

Presenter: ...the fuck?

[livejournal.com profile] trollprincess: OH HELL SHIT.

*flush*

*snerk* Alas, I don't think I could win in that category. Partly because I'm not as good as Jamie Foxx, partly because I wasn't in a movie this year, and partly because I don't have a penis.

*blinks* Matt LeBlanc got nominated for 'Joey'? Didn't that show last three episodes and then die? It's like this urban legend that I kept hearing about but could never actually locate.

Apparently, they're still nominating Friends even though it's not fucking on anymore. *seethes* (From what I've heard, though, it's still on and is suffering from a case of good characters, baaaaaaaaad plotlines.)

ye gawds, I hope Matt LeBlanc doesn't win over Jason Bateman. Joey is mediocre at best.
I saw sideways, and it's one of those movies that some people really like, and can't explain why, that tend to win awards.
for example: I saw Monster. I hated it.
I saw Lost in Translation. I didn't understand what the big deal was.
I saw Sideways, and though it was entertaining, I didn't find anyone's performance to be particularly outstanding nor memorable. I liked the movie, but come on, there's better stuff this year than THAT. If it wins it's because of those intangible qualities that I don't always seem to catch.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm 99% sure neither Debra Messing nor Will & Grace have ever won a Golden Globe. W&G might've won once.

Emmys, yes. But Debra Messing is notoriously snubbed at the Globes. SJP beats her nearly every time, and if not her, then someone else.

I still didn't want her to win, just because it's always the same nominees and it gets tiresome. And also, because Will And Grace has sucked the last few times I've turned it on.

I'll agree with you on that - she should've won like 4 years ago, and then gone away. :)
