According to Entertainment Weekly, the Americanized version of The Office is going to be set in Scranton.

Oh, God. Now I have to watch it. *headsmack*

Nope, apparently not. They did cast Steve Correll in the lead, who's probably the only comic actor I could trust to be that big of an asshole boss, but then again, all I've heard are the expected awful early reviews.

But still, for the Scranton thing, I have to watch. 'Cause, seriously, let's see how badly they can screw that part up.

Huh. I kind of assumed you already had an American version of the Office. Don't know why. *sigh* Why do they not trust that Americans will like the original? We don't go around making our own versions of ER and Friends (well, OK, we have Casualty and Coupling, but we have ER and Friends as well). Says something vaguely depressing about what American TV execs think of Americans...

I imagine that making American versions of the shows would mean that American companies wouldn't have to pay the creators of the originals as much money.

I expect that the creators of the originals cost quite a bit less than the Americans that rework it.

I think the truth is much closer to the American executive not getting it, and demanding it be reworked so he can understand it before he's willing to put it on the air.

Yeah, probably. The only other reason I can think of is that they were afraid Americans wouldn't understand the accents. :)

Oh dear god, as in Scranton, Pennsylvania??????? What could they possibly find to be funny about that? I went to school there...I lived there for two years...there's nothing amusing about that city.

I'm scared. Very, very scared.

Tell me about it. I worked there for the last two years I lived in PA, and it wasn't exactly the most fun place to live or work.

Mostly, I'm hoping to watch for the same sick sort of amusement that I get when they try to pass off a gigantic airport gate as the Scranton airport in "Home Alone".
