Thomas Haden Church is playing the villain in Spider-Man 3, but they won't say who. Well, great, now I have to spend the rest of the day wracking my Captain-Trips-addled brain trying to figure out who he's playing.

In other news, I just cracked 90k on The Monsters of Minooka, which I might have to change to The Monsters of Moosic simply based on the fact that cramming Minooka in there is harder than putting Moosic in there. I have a very, very baaaaad idea. *cackles maniacally*

Also, for Arrested Development fans, Jason Bateman and Amy Poehler are making a romantic comedy together. The story centers on a man (Bateman) who meets the girl of his dreams -- while on his honeymoon with someone else (Poehler). *snerk* This, I gotta see. :)

Crap! Who would he be good as? Venom? Hmm...not big enough, but definately crazy enough.

Dude, if he's playing Venom, it'd certainly explain all the secrecy. The Spidey fans would go fucking apeshit, although I'm not sure if they'd go good or bad apeshit. :) (Then again, I can't remember if they were all that secretive about Alfred Molina playing Doc Ock, but I don't seem to remember that happening.)

It'd be good apeshit on my part, I'll say that.

Me, too. I think Thomas Haden Church would make an awesome Venom.

I will go crazy with glee if he's playing Venom, who is my absolute favorite villain and who I've had a giant soft spot for since I was an itty bitty baby Spidey fangirl. (and I actually kinda sorta slashed Spidey/Venom starting as an itty bitty baby fangirl before I knew what slash was)

Who else could he play...Hobgoblin? There's a big emphasis on the Goblins in the movies, and Sam has said he wants to do something unexpected with Harry's development, so it could be Spidey vs. Green Goblin 2 vs. Hobgoblin (if it Spidey & Green Goblin 2 vs. Hobgoblin, or Spidey & Green Goblin 2 vs. anybody, I will die squeeeing). Who else? He could be the Chameleon, or a very young Vulture. (Dear Sam Raimi: you already made Doctor Octopus sexy. If you make the Vulture sexy, my brain will NEVER forgive you.)

I wonder if Curt Connors will turn into the Lizard, or if he'll stay an injoke? I'll be happy either way; I LOVE Dylan Baker.

The Spider-Man movies get all the best people!!! EEEEEEEEE!

I first read that as "Batman".

(Maybe they should make *that* movie.)

It's got to be Venom. There's no other villian he could possibly resemble with the exception of Sandman, Hydroman, Rhino... maybe Scorpion... but there's no way they'll use any of those four villians. Whatever bad guy they decide to go with, though, they better not make him a mad scientist.

I thought Sandman myself, but he's not a major enough villain for the movie. Venom it is!

From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
Then again, AICN said something about Sam Raimi not liking Venom and indicating it might be Sandman.

*doesn't recognise the name* *gooogles it*

I don't care what character he is playing, untill it's released, it will be The Flash!

From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
You know, there was a thing on AICN the other day saying that Ryan Reynolds had been at an Amityville Q&A panel and said something about being in talks to play the Flash. Which, if they're going to pour that body into red spandex, I have no problem with. Of course, he also said something about playing Deadpool, and damn it, I could get behind it, too, if it were true, because I think he'd make a great, snarky Deadpool. But mentioning being in talks for both gets my hopes down, for some reason. *sigh*

From: [identity profile] myniamh.livejournal.com

I think the chances of him being in both are slim as a main character, but if Jessica Alba can be in two comics movies, why not?!

I'd vote for Deadpool, if I had to choose. Which I don't want to.

Hang on, if he was in both, that would be three, counting Blade III.
Shh, don't tell anyone.

DEADPOOL MOVIE WITH RYAN REYNOLDS?

That clunking sound would be my heart as it stops beating.

Either one of those options with Ryan Reynolds in the role would make me happy. Just put him in spandex and let him riff. :)

I would adore Reynolds as the Flash as well. But DEADPOOL! He is second only to Spidey in snark, and he is the uber-meta-est superhero evah. I love heeeem. And Reynolds could bring a great deal of pathos to the role. *happy sigh*

I clicked that link, and as a person who has never read comics beyond manga people give me as gifts and who could usually give less of a flip about superheroes, color me converted. *_*

I am SUCH a sucker for snark.

Where can I find more of this? Preferably for cheap, since I have no money?

Deadpool is snarky and violent and crazy and meta and needs far more fan-adoration than he gets.

If you're not an online filesharing type, you can find backissues of "Deadpool" pretty easily at most comic book stores. If you ARE an online filesharing type, please tell me you have Bittorrent! If so, you can download a pack (about 655MB), that I've seen at various torrent-sites, of almost all of Deadpool's appearances in comics. This link was at the first torrent-site I tried and appears to be working; if that doesn't work just search for "Deadpool" at other sites and you'll find a working torrent eventually. Once you've downloaded it, you can read the issues (still in ZIP/CBR form) on your computer with this program.

Deadpool is currently co-starring in an odd-but-adorable-pseudo-buddy-cop-but-not-really title with Cable, named (surprise!) "Cable & Deadpool". I haven't read much of it myself, but I've heard good things about it: the first issues are out in tradeback here and here (well, it'll be out soon).

Deadpool is also a huge favorite at the comic-scans community [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily, so there have been a lot of scans involving him posted there: you can look through the Marvel links archived in the memories, but since not all posts made have been archived, you might look through the calendar as well.
A sampling from scans_daily:
One, Two, Three

I was going to upload "Baby's First Deadpool" for you as a sample, but I can't find my disc. Wah! Now I won't be happy until I've found it.

Sadly, I have a Mac that takes a minimum of three hours to download anything bigger than 5x5 pixels. So no filesharing for me. ;_; But I shall check out scans_daily! Thank you!

That shot is from a flick called (IIRC) The Specials, which is the BEST FREAKING SUPERHERO MOVIE EVER MADE. It's snarky and has Rob Lowe and a guy named Minute Man ("Mi-NOOT! NOT MINUTE! MI-NOOT! JESUS!") and squee.

What about Carnage? He looks kinda like him, and he's like Venom but more fun.

*watched a single episode of Spider-man in the past five years or so, which just happened to have Carnage who I had forgotten existed*
