apocalypsos: (amazing race)
[personal profile] apocalypsos
Okay, I walked into the room at quarter to nine and just flipped on the TV. So, you know, I didn't see the first part of the episode. But my thoughts so far --

Ray and Deana are in first, aren't they? *wants to hit something*

Breg and Grian are just so freaking adorable. And so are Uchenna and Joyce. And so are Rob and Amber, in a very twisted way.

Also ... boy, they really mugged Meredith and Gretchen at the end of the leg, didn't they? Sheesh. You know, something about that I hate, but something about that I love.

And, what, we're getting a leg and a half tonight, aren't we? Uh, okay. *sigh*

Okay, the thing that Brian said about going home and eating Mom's enchiladas? Yay! I want to go to Brian and Greg's mom's house to have enchiladas! (And yay, I figured out which one is which.) But his crack about his bad driving scares me.

"Meredith and what's his name get no money." I'm far more amused by that than I should be. :)

Gretchen is looking so ragged, poor thing.

Okay, you know, I can understand not giving Gretchen and Meredith money from a racing standpoint, but then Ray and Rob had to be really jerky about it. Ray more than Rob, though.

Hee! I want to feed lions!

Oh, God, stop following other teams!

"You wanted to sightsee."
"I wanted to see giraffes." *snerk*

Oh, that Air Botswana flight is going to become important. You can so tell.

See? I told you to stop following the other teams. And only Uchenna and Joyce figured it out, because they are awesome. :)

Holy crap, are My Gay Boys lost.

Oh, My Gay Boys, STOP saying the phrase "if it were any other team," because if it were, you wouldn't.

Okay, I find Rob and Amber entertaining, but that crack about Meredith pushing Gretchen pissed me off.

Yay! Bushmen! And they're all so tiny! "Let's grab a bushmen." Hee! Yoda!

Ray voted for Bush. Enough said.

Yay, Brian! Those two are so freaking cute!

Oh, God, they're about to crash. *covers eyes*

Those bushmen rock.

Yay! Joyce is so cool.

Like I said, I like watching Rob and Amber, but good for Meredith for beating them on this one.

Oh, Ray, shut up. "Critical mistakes," my ass.

You know, it'd be nice if these people could actually remember Meredith is the man.

OH MY GOD. I WAS RIGHT. WHO THE FUCK IS LYING ON THE GROUND? (I think it's the sound guy or the cameraman, because neither brother was wearing a dark blue shirt, but ... wait, was the back of Brian's shirt dark blue? ACK.)

For all their whining at other times, at least My Gay Boys bothered to stop and check on Brian and Greg. I mean, I can understand any team driving past, but still. Even Ray asked out the window if they were all right.

Lynn, really, lay off the Rob and Amber bitching. It's warranted, but it's also tiresome.

Oh, dude, they're literally going to sleep out there just on beds? That is soo incredibly cool.

Man, I really, really don't want Brian and Greg to be eliminated.

Aw, that prayer just ... I love those two.

It's only second, Rob and Amber. Calm down.

Okay, see, even Phil's squicked by Rob and Amber just leaving them there. This episode is doing nothing to make me keep being entertained by their antics.

"Sometimes you've just got to stop and do the right thing." Lynn, the sentiment is nice, the obvious look in Rob and Amber's direction wasn't. You're right. Don't rub it in.

Yay for Meredith and Gretchen! They are still in the race, they're number five, they did it without anything, AND they beat Ray and Deana. Woohoo!

If there's a God, he'll let Brian and Greg stay in this race over Ray and Deana.

YES!!! Aw, and the poor guys are crying. I want to hug them so much.

Goodbye, wannabe Jonathan and Victoria Ray and Deana. Don't let the costumed greeter hit you on your ass on the way out.

Now, that was a GREAT double-leg.

Hey, did Deana get whacked in the face during one of the challenges or something? She looks like she has two black eyes and a cut lip.

I saw her get whacked in the face with the stick when she was smushing the flour or whatever it was, but I could have sworn I saw her squinting before that.

Yeah, she definitely had something wrong with her eye at the last pit stop, but I can't remember if she had that big scab below her lip.

That would be from one of Ray's little love-taps, methinks.

Why would I not be surprised by that? His snotty little remarks when they got kicked off made me want to hit him with a boat oar. Over, and over, and over, and over. It takes a special kind of person to make their parting words sound worse than Jonathan's.

You see, he was saving up the assholery.

At least he recognizes that their relationship is poisoned, even if he can't figure a way to either fix it or end it. He's somewhat self-aware, so he's one-up on Assothan already.

It wouldn't surprise me much.

I'm sorely tempted to get up early tomorrow morning, watch the Early Show, and see what kind of lame excuses he gives for his behavior.

Of course, that would require me giving a shit about him, and I'm too busy flying on the high of Briand and Greg celebrating on the Bathmat.

SUCH a satisfying ending! I feel the need for a new icon, don't you?

Oh, yes. I desperately need a Greg and Brian icon. Like, more than I need to breathe.

Yay! *happy dance*

The only caption I can think of for that hug at the end is, "Yay! Mom's enchiladas for everyone!" :)

That is so much more perfect than anything I would've come up with. It shall be so.

Now I can enjoy the game with something vaguely resembling peace. The other teams may have their problems, but I still like them all a hell of a lot better than those two.

Patrick and Susan were kind of creepy. I wish the hillbilly boys had stayed though, I liked them. I hope you don't mind that I friended you and the recaps too. I love snark (twop rocks) and look forward to reading the end results.

There is no other reality show out there that has me covering my eyes and yelling at the finish. I love this show so much. The brothers have moved to the top of my list now.

Have Meredith and Gretchen gone farther than any of the "old" teams? I don't know if I like this taking their possession thing. I just hope they have clean underwear. But Joyce and Uchenna gave them clothes! Unsolicited! That's why I love this show.

Team Guido from season 1 came in third, and they were both old AND gay. But aside from that, yeah, I think that Meredith & Gretchen have made it the farthest.

Well, they weren't OLD old. As in, "This is our old couple!" Out of those teams, Meredith and Gretchen have trounced the others as of tonight's second episode.

Aaah, 'tis a shame. Was a great season, even with the inclusion of screechy contestant Flo, who almost makes Hayden look like a debutante.

From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
I'm almost sad that I missed Flo. Not because she sounds like she would have been fun to watch, but because she's so notorious. I really need to go back in the TWoP summaries one of these days when I have nothing to do and read all of the seasons I missed.

She is notorious, but there were other teams that more than made up for her.

Which other seasons have you missed?

From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
Well, let's see ... got totally hooked on TAR 1, only saw the first few episodes of TAR 2, missed TAR 3, saw TAR 4, only caught the occasional glimpse of TAR 5, and saw TAR 6. There was a stretch there where I just couldn't remember to tape the show to save my life.

Aaah, okay. At least you saw the first season, which will always be the gold standard. TAR 2 was halfway decent, 3 was great, 4 was meh IMHO, and 5 wasn't too bad. I'm a total whore for the show - never missed an ep. Hell, I even watched the stupid clip show last season and I'm sure I'll do it again for the one next week.

I spent the whole of season one screaming at my TV screen, usually at Team Guido. Man, did I hate those guys. Lynn and Alex are starting to give off an equally annoying vibe without the snooty upper-crustiness to fall back on.

I disliked Team Guido, too, but at least they were entertaining villians, which the other seasons have sorely lacked.

Oh, yes. If I had to prove to people why this show is so freaking awesome, this night would be the one I would show them. Just ... GAH. LOVELOVELOVE.

Brian and Greg are officially my favorite team right now, with Uchenna and Joyce a close second.

And yup, from checking Wikipedia, Meredith and Gretchen have now officially gone farther than any other older team on the show. I could fully support them winning right now. (Although they won't, but if they did, I would adore it. :))

Gretchen and Meredith had *nothing* left but the clothes they were wearing and their passports. Everything else was taken away.

GO ROB AND AMBER!

TO HELL! MUAHAHAHAHAH!

Damn I hate those assholes SO MUCH! Couldn't even stop to make sure everyone was ok?! No one said you had to leave your stupid truck but at least slow down or stop by the side to ask! The damn cameraman got badly hurt yet only a few teams had the heart to stop?!

I liked how Lynn did that. Rob and Amber deserve snide remarks and nasty looks their direction. They have a million dollars already plus what Rob got for second place! Greedy bastards!

I would love Meredith and Gretchen to at least finish second. I don't think they could last the whole race but still hope they can make second place. Uchenna and Joyce look very promising for the finish but not sure if they will continue to be one of the harmonious couples of the game. Lynn and Alex seem to be way too confident and that may be their downfall along with thinking that everyone will accept them no matter where they go. All they need is one homophobic cabby and their race is done. The rest I don't see winning except maybe Greg and Brian but they are also on the question mark list of howlong they can go without arguing and getting ready to kill each other.

Rob and Amber just pissed me right the fuck off tonight. I mean, up until now, the "smug bastard" act has been amusing -- not nice in the grand scheme of things, but amusing. Tonight just sent them twirling down to the toilet bowl in my esteem. (Of course, then again, after tonight with the ejecting of Ray and Deana, they're now the team I like the least.)

The thing about them having a million dollars already ... after thinking about it, that really doesn't bother me. I mean, if you take a look at the net worth of some of the teams in the past (and maybe even some of the teams this year) and you might find a couple more millionaires in the mix.

I honestly don't think Meredith and Gretchen are going to make it past next week, but I have to give them credit, because whether or not the Bathmat mugging was good or not, it did wonders for their gameplay. They got a better Bathmat standing at the end of the second leg than they have for the entire race, they beat Ray, and they've come farther than any other "retirees" team that's been on the show.

I'm really hoping at this point that Brian and Greg win it all. They're been so even and steady and good-natured so far, and even during the highly stressful time of the crash, a time during which if it had been Ray and Deana, they'd have been insulting each other left and right, they were being incredibly supportive of one another. And after the high of that amazing finish last night, I don't think I can see them getting into more than one big fight for the entire race. (And I can barely see how they'd get into THAT fight, whenever it may come.)

What really got me was Rob and Amber's reaction when Phil called them on it at the mat. They just grinned, and Amber did this little "tee-hee" giggle, like yes, aren't we so cute? It could all be editing, but it really made her look like she's so used to getting away with everything she does because she's cute and pretty. And it seemed to only slowly dawn on them that this guy was on the crew, and maybe a friend of Phil and the other people standing there filming, and even if he wasn't badly hurt, they'd just had the crap scared out of them.

And the thing with Meredith and Gretchen was sickening. If you don't want to help them out with donations, fine, but don't accuse the guy of hurting his wife just to get sympathy.

Exactly. As dorky and grandparent-ish as those two can get, they're incredibly supportive of one another. It's one thing to accuse Ray of the same thing, because with him it's a serious concern considering his behavior, but Meredith has never done a thing to warrant that kind of remark and it's tasteless and awful.
