You know, the Previously of last week's episode still makes me giggle. And I figured out why the Travelocity gnome thing bugs me so much -- you know, aside from that clip of Ron and Kelly picking out their trip. *gags* It's that the last sponsor I can remember TAR having like this was American Airlines, and they didn't really need to advertise that much, since half of their flights ended up being American Airlines.

So anyway, by team:

Meredith and Gretchen: Aw, you guys were sweet, but go home and rest now, okay? We worry. I think their biggest mistake was taking Brawn over Brains, 'cause seriously, buh? Take Brains, for crying out loud. You both look like you're about to keel over. But they're very sweet, and that was a nice goodbye speech, and I'll miss them (but maybe not Gretchen's voice).

Rob and Amber: You know, I wish I could sit back and say that they shouldn't win this season. But in all honesty, if it weren't for the fact that they were on Survivor, I don't think the backlash against them would be so great. Yeah, they'd be getting some backlash, because they can both be grating at times, but the thing is that for the most part, Rob is a charmer and Amber's pretty much just there. Yes, they get Ferns in every city they're in, but then again, until they outlaw Ferns on the show, it's not a crime. Should they get penalized for getting more play with it because of Survivor than Megan and Heidi would have been for using their looks to get Ferns or Meredith and Gretchen would have been if they'd used the grandparent sympathy ploy? No, they shouldn't. And honestly, how many of their Ferns had come up to them and said, "Hi, Survivor's Rob and Amber! Let me help you!" At least one in South Africa, but that one in Peru was a guy they approached, and the rest of them were people Rob simply charmed into helping them. That's the thing -- if you only know him for a day, Rob is really, really charming, and in that situation, surrounded by cameramen with a pretty blonde next to him and wad of money in his hand, it's probably really easy to say, "Sure, I'll escort you anywhere you want for the rest of the day."

But I'm getting away from myself. The point is that Ferns didn't help Rob ride that horse like a cowboy in South America or park that double-decker today. Both Rob and Amber did well on Survivor for the same reasons that they're doing well here -- because they're sharp mentally, physically and emotionally. I mean, how many tasks have they failed at? They've never placed below fifth because they're good at this. Are they arrogant? Yes. But everybody who does this show is a little arrogant. You kind of have to be to think you can get anywhere in this race. Are they nice people? Not all the time, but then again, and I hate to use the phrase, but it IS a game. And it's a game they happen to be very good at. So I might not want to race against them, and I'm not sure I'd even want to hang out with them, but I can't fault it if they win next week, and frankly, since Rob's entertained the hell out of me from day one, good for them if they do.

Uchenna and Joyce: They're just lovely, aren't they? Just incredibly, amazingly adorable. The more I see Joyce, the more beautiful she becomes. The more I see Uchenna, the more I want a Uchenna of my very own. Oh, my God, with the helping Meredith and Gretchen even though he wasn't supposed to. *cuddles him* It would so make up for Kris and Jon not winning last season if I could get a Uchenna and Joyce win this season. (Also, it would really be nice if someone could wave a magic wand and give them a baby. Because they'd be the best parents EVER.) So, yes, if Uchenna and Joyce win next week (oh, PLEASE let that shot of all three teams running from the finale preview be of them running for the Bathmat, because they were in the lead! *flails*), there will be lots of flailing on my part, and not guilty-pleasure flailing like I'll have if Rob and Amber win.

Ron and Kelly: You know, if Ron were with a much tamer, less high-maintenance bitch, I have a feeling he'd drive me nuts and piss me off. ("It's like teaching women how to drive"? Way to use a joke that wasn't even funny when my great-grandmother was alive, Ron.) But he's with Kelly, and my GOD, woman, have you ever seen this show? Women who decide to go on this show to test their romantic relationships make me want to hit things. Like them, over and over again with a wiffleball bat. What the hell is wrong with her? First off, every little thing she says to Ron is snide and insensitive, and I sincerely hope it officially ruins her chances of getting married EVER. You just know that's all she cares about, anyway. "One day, I'll get maaaaaaaarried. Maybe to the cute POW!" No, whiny. No, you won't.

And the lipstick! GYAH. You're so desperate for makeup, you asked some stranger at the ticket counter? I'm sure she's a very nice lady, but EW. Using other women's lipsticks is gross. On any other day, that drawing on the Yield picture and giggling would have made up for that, you know. (Especially as compared to KKKendra's reaction to being Yielded last season. At least it shows Kelly has a sense of humor, although why she's choosing to show it now is confusing.)

I know I've said it before, but really, I am not going to be happy if they win. They've spent the entire season sniping at one another and taking up space on my TV screen, and I just hope they end up in third place because I am just that over them. *sigh*

In other TAR news, I really wish they let 18 years old be the minimum age to try out for the show. I want to go on with my brother, damn it. We might not get far, but we'd have fun while it lasted. :)

Am watching the first-season finale of Dead Like Me now. This is like some weird AU crossover mash-up, in that Harold Perrineau and Jewel Staite are both in it. Hee.

EDIT: ACK! Clips from tomorrow's Lost up on Yahoo! The look on Charlie's face when Claire hands over Turniphead (and no, that doesn't count for the Beelzebaby challenge, so there ... ;P) is priceless. That little smile! *happy sigh* And also, Hurley singing James Brown is officially my new favorite thing of the week. Except for Vindictive!Shannon, 'cause YAY! *crosses fingers for the promo theory*

OTHER EDIT: Hrm. Uh. If I need to buy yet another DVD stand because I'm running out of room in the three I have, that's bad, right?

I was on the edge of the sofa watching TAR tonight. Next week can't come soon enough. *makes Mom's enchiladas in anticipation*

And we just bought another DVD case (bringing us up to three completely full Ikea cabinet-thingies today to hold our (and when I say "our" I mean "my husband's") gigantic collection of movies and television shows, so I see no problem with you getting another one.

Heh. Straight up, I don't like Rob and Amber, and I don't *want* them to win. That's why it'd be so conflicting if they won, 'cause they certainly deserve it if they do. Their reliance on Ferns on just about every leg is a bit distasteful, but it's not outside the boundaries of the rules, so that's just something I'd have to grudgingly accept.

And boy, did Ron prove himself to be an ass. If they win I just might vomit.

And Uchenna and Joyce are simply a pleasure to watch.

I totally agree with you about Rob and Amber. I have been saying that all along. Yes they got help sometimes and yes they didn't stop to see if Greg and Brian needed help, and yes Rob is a jerk sometimes, BUT they did the challenges and they had to finish them to get as far as they did. Ok so yeah the meet challage Rob didn't finish, but he was creative enough to think of away out of it... And I think your totally right, if they weren't on survivor before, then the backlash wouldn't be so high.

If I didn't already love Uchenna, he would have got me during the bus driving hell challenge, when he said, "She's does better when my mouth is shut." And yeah, if Kelly wasn't being such a child, I don't think Ron would look a lot worse.

Ain't that the truth. I had to give him credit for that, because out of the three of them, Uchenna realized it wasn't helping first. It took Gretchen a while, but she finally got it, too, though. Meanwhile, Ron was just being stupid about it, but then again, look who he had to deal with. (As for Rob and Amber, I don't think she yelled once, but I think a lot of the reason the other three were yelling were because they were there at the same time and that just upped the stress.)

I think the thing about Rob and Amber's Ferns is that they make a habit of doing something that we'd consider smart rather than distasteful if any other team (like, say, Uchenna and Joyce) were doing it -- they always ask, "Do you have time to show us?" It's one thing to get somebody to give you directions, but it's another thing entirely to get yourself a guide.

I keep thinking what I'd do if I were wandering through DC one Saturday when I had nothing better to do, spotted red and yellow flags, and got approached by a team looking for a Fern for the rest of the day. As long as the team wasn't pushy, mean, or bitchy (Ray, Jonathan, and Kendra come to mind as people I wouldn't help), I'd be there in a heartbeat. If it were Rob and Amber, I think I'd help simply because he can be charming in small doses. Yes, the fact that I'd end up on TV would be cool, too. Quite frankly, I'd just be proud I knew the city well enough to help.

Meanwhile, when Joyce cries next week, I may cry sympathetically, because I'm pretty sure I can't stand to see her upset anymore than Uchenna can at this point. *whimper*

Hell, if for some reason they were in Rochester and needed a Fern, I'd be right there too.

I guess what I don't like about it is the fact that they tend to grab someone to be a guide repeatedly, without (seemingly) even trying to work it out first. Allowable? Absolutely, but I still don't have to like it, and I'd probably be just as miffed about it even if it wasn't Romber doing the Fern-grabbing :P

I think my favorite thing about Rob and Amber is reading the conspiracy theorists on the TWoP boards. This episode spawned people yelping that Rob and Amber are getting help from the producers (AGAIN, completely ignoring the heavy laws against game shows cheating due to that scandal in the '50s) to people going, "Bitch, please." The best quote I saw off there for this episode was, Rob of course rocked [the bus challenge]. And so did Stuart [their Fern], who did a great job remaining unseen from beneath the bus, while he pushed the cones out of the way. ('Cuz Rob can't do anything himself). *snerk*

I think you're completely right about Rob and Amber, and it being related to the Survivor thing. They haven't done anything outlandish or particularly mean. Jonathon last season got ferns all over the place, and I didn't mind his use of guides. Maybe because there were so many other reasons not to like Jonathon, so I was distracted. (Where did the term fern come from, anyway?)

So if Rob and Amber win next week, I'll admit they've done very well. I'm just not rooting for them.
