Jesus, why the hell do I go anywhere near the TAR TwoP boards? Why? WHY?! That must be the same part of my brain that makes me listen to O'Reilly every day. For every person who was thrilled with Uchenna and Joyce winning, there was one going, "Bah. How horrible they won. They were mediocre racers and didn't deserve to win." And it made me keep wondering, "Have these dumbasses ever watched the race before?"

a.) TAR is not a race in the spirit of the Indianapolis 500, it's a race in the vein of the Cannonball Run. It's not just a bunch of teams locked in a room running in circles. It's a bunch of teams who have to deal with a lack of cash and other people and vehicles that don't work sometimes and other things that they have to do before they race to the finish line. You can only ride so far on talent in this sort of race -- luck plays a huge part in this race ...

b.) ... but it's not everything. You cannot coast through the entire race on luck (Meredith and Gretchen) the same way you can't coast through on talent (Brian and Greg, Lynn and Alex). Uchenna and Joyce had one 8th place finish at the beginning of the race, a 4th place finish in the next leg, and one 6th place finish towards the middle. The rest of the time, they were either first, second, or third. Explain to me how that makes them mediocre. Are they better racers than Rob and Amber? No, not for the quality of their gameplay, but with placements, Rob and Amber had two fifth place finishes, so they weren't exactly perfect.

c.) Also, if I hear one more complaint about that stupid fucking plane coming back to pick them up in Puerto Rico, I'm going to scream. CBS did not run out onto the runway and strong-arm the pilot into turning around to pick up Uchenna and Joyce to avoid a racial discrimination suit or something. Jesus. (And for that matter, I was going to throttle the next person who said that Uchenna wanting to earn the money he was begging for in Jamaica by dancing or singing was some sort of racist routine. Shut it, morons. I was thinking last night during a begging sequence that I wouldn't be comfortable just begging people for money on that show. I'd sing or dance in a public place ... at least it'd be something to get money that actually resembled work.)

d.) It's not about coming in first in every leg, for Christ's sake. It's about not coming in last for every leg, and THEN coming in first for that last leg. Uchenna and Joyce lucked out with a driver who knew his way around and a bystander who spoke Spanish. If Rob and Amber had stopped wandering around Little Havana for five seconds and just asked someone, they wouldn't have had that problem.

e.) Every team that was in the top three deserved to be there. Every one. Rob and Amber were the best racers as to how they played the game itself, Uchenna and Joyce were the best racers as to how they interacted with others and dealt with stressful situations, and to be honest, Ron and Kelly were the best racers standings-wise. (Ron and Kelly had one tenth place finish in the first round, then nothing lower than fourth place. Honestly, in that respect, they did better than Rob and Amber.)

f.) I love Rob and Amber, too, but they have a million dollars, the cash they'll get for second place, each other, and a CBS-funded wedding. CALM DOWN.

g.) And I almost forgot, but Uchenna and Joyce did that last leg with no money and no belongings, and they STILL won. Mediocre players, my ass. (If there's one compliment I can give Meredith and Gretchen, it's that continuing on in this race after a Bathmat-mugging and succeeding IS a skill, and quite frankly their best one.)

Don't mind me. I just needed to vent. And maybe to watch the ending again. (And if TARflies could get the screencaps up sometime this century, I'd really appreciate it. Urgh.)

In other news, I have a feeling that I'm going to be bored out of my mind today at work, and I know I've done this meme before, but I like it so -- Ask me any five questions. Within reason, of course.

Also, is anybody interested in being a beta for the monster [livejournal.com profile] xmmficathon entry of doooooom? It's not like I'm finished yet, but it's going to be really, really long, and I'd rather just start sending parts as I finish 'em to a beta rather than a looooooooong story in just one big lump at the end of June, because at this rate, that's how long it'll take me to finish.

EDIT: I almost forgot, but "Leonard from Lynchburg" is an asshole.

I want to have Dear Abby's homosexual babies. OMG DOES THAT MAKE ME A MOUTHPIECE FOR THE GAY AND LESBIAN AGENDA?!

One of these days, somebody's going to show me their copy of the goddamn Gay Agenda. All I'm getting is the newsletter. Oh, and a mailed advertisement from Suncoast for gay and lesbian entertainment. (No, really. I honestly hadn't thought I'd bought that much gay and lesbian entertainment from them. Then again, maybe they know something about my sexuality I don't.)

I misplaced that along with my homo membership card when I was moving last year :P

TARwise, TWoP is more often that not a bastion of bitterness. And frankly? Rob's fans were almost cultish in their devotion. And like you said, what people don't realize is that anything can shift the race in one team's favor. In TAR 1, it was Esquire getting the right green lights at the right time. In TAR 2, it was Tara having her ashtma attack leading Chris & Alex to pass her. In TAR 6 it was getting on that correct plane. Same thing with this season.

Though, on the other side of the coin, my bf told me while we were watching that if Rob and Amber won, he wasn't watching the show anymore. He still might not :P

Hopefully within reason.

1> You're brilliant. Would you ever want to go back to college?

2> You're funny. Would you ever want to go into radio to be a DJ?

3> You're an excellent writer. Why not write a book about your DHL experiences?

4> You just won the lottery. Now what?

5> Favorite snack?

1> You're brilliant. Would you ever want to go back to college?

I'd love to, but aside from the monetary issue (no money, bad credit, outstanding college loans still), I just can never decide what to do with it. Not to mention that my first go-around at college was a horrible, horrible mistake in general (what the hell was I thinking of, majoring in journalism?).

2> You're funny. Would you ever want to go into radio to be a DJ?

I don't know if I'd work very well as a DJ. It's not so much the content, because I can bring the silly, but it's things like I use the word "like" too much, I tend to mumble, I ramble, I'm much funnier when you can see my facial expressions, etc. (That's part of the reason I'd love to be on TAR ... you know, aside from the travelling-the-world-with-someone thing.)

3> You're an excellent writer. Why not write a book about your DHL experiences?

Eh, no thanks. They already have a story about my DHL experiences. It's called Office Space. And the office in The Office IS my office. :) (Although, my telemarketing experience, on the other hand ...)

4> You just won the lottery. Now what?

I build a house. A big one, in the middle of nowhere in the country. And then I travel and write anything I want for the rest of my life. That much alone would make me happy. :)

5> Favorite snack?

Cheetos, pumpkin seeds, frozen grapes, Ben and Jerry's Half-Baked, and Bottlecaps. (Yeah, it's more than one, but I could live off those five things for the rest of my life.)

I'll beta for you if you beta for me (I haven't even started my story yet though) :)

Oh - and the beta work on the novel is coming along slowly - I forgot how much concentration I need to do that properly. I'm going to try to have it done by next weekend - k?

Sure, it's a deal. I'm probably going to have a good chunk of the first part done soon. There's a certain point I want to get to first. (When you get an idea of what I'm supposed to be writing about, you'll understand why I already had to start. ;))

And as for the novel ... whenever you get a chance. And thanks again for doing it. :)

I should probably start working on mine since I have three ficathon pieces due in the next couple of months and I think this one is going to be the hardest.

I got the first 8 chapters of the novel done so far (I think). It's really good :) I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not reading for pleasure though! :)

Tell me about it. I've got the [livejournal.com profile] xmmficathon story, the Beelzebaby story (if she ever names that kid), the story idea that [livejournal.com profile] miggy gave me that I have to write, and my [livejournal.com profile] plan_9_from_lj summary for Volcano, which I'm probably going to write this Sunday. And also, the urge to write Grown!Wyatt fic after this week's Charmed, but if I ignore that bunny, maybe it'll go away and stop nibbling on my toes. And that's just this month. I'm lucky I'm on a roll, creativity-wise. :)
