Ten things that the final Star Wars needs to resolve. A really interesting article to read even if you're a casual Star Wars watcher.

EDIT: Uh, I think I just heard a radio commercial for a local TV news story about zombies. Zombies. O.o

OTHER EDIT: O'Reilly's talking about the Real ID Act. Kill me now.

Please take notes on the coming zombie attack so that those of us on other continents can know what to expect.

Wouldn't it be oddly appropriate if zombies showed up not only in Washington, DC, but also not far from me?

... or maybe that's just me.

Icon love, 1st off.

I read the entry, and it IS really interesting. I'm a fairly rabid fan of the movies (though I've never picked up a book on Star Wars, I'm one of those.)

I'm a pretty rabid fan of the movies - my boyfriend, however, makes me look like a retard when it comes to SW trivia. It's insane.

Still, I think the guy who wrote the article missed a few Logic Leaps that would have given him answers for a couple of his points. I may do an entry hitting them later, when I'm a bit more awake. :)

Didn't I write this article last month? I didn't get a plug in your journal.

Also, the zombie story is probably based on this, which is an April Fool's Day joke.

Ack, missed that post. Here's hoping Lucas gets to those, though, because at this point, closing up his plotholes is going to be the only way to get some of us anywhere near a Star Wars movie again.

Unless Lucas pulls some serious magic and gives us a movie that somehow is absolutely 100% wonderful, I am going to exercise my ability of denial and consider Episodes 1, 2, and 3 an AU plot. ¬.¬

Early reports indicate it's 80% - 85% wonderful, so I'll enjoy it even if you won't. 8)

Well, I'm not saying I'm not gonna enjoy it - I'm just reserving the right not to consider it the same story.

I love the original trilogy, but I refuse to buy a box set of the DVDs unless it's simply the trilogy without fancy bells or new special effects or anything. I just want the original movies. Is that too much to ask?

We bought the box set, because we don't think he's going to let us have the originals. :(

Though the thing with Vader's ghost is almost made up for by the fact that they fixed the bit with Greedo. I was delighted.

Oh, the thing with Vader's ghost pisses me off So. Freaking. MUCH. It makes no goddamn sense. Obi-Wan and Yoda didn't get to be young ghosts. Why the hell should Anakin? *gags* Every explanation I've heard for that just pisses me off even more, because they all sound like such incredible BS.

The replacement of Sebastian Shaw as Anakin's ghost pissed me off, too, partially because WHY IT WAS UNNECCESARY WHY, and also because heeheehee his name is Sebastian Shaw hello I'm an X-Men nerd.

The only even remotely plausible explanation for it that I've heard is that the ghosts represent the Jedi at the height of their power / grasp of the Force. Anakin's power presumably started to dwindle after his limbs started getting hacked off left and right, so he'd have been at the height of his power when he was still scrawny.

It still makes me sad, though. I liked Sebastian. *cries*

My theory is that when Lucas put Shaw in the ghost scene, he was saying that Anakin looked like that before he became Vader--i.e., that he didn't turn to the dark side until he was middle-aged. Obviously after being redeemed, Anakin isn't going to spend eternity in his evil suit, so he'd look like he did before he became Vader, with no scars and nice good guy Jedi robes.

The problem is that thanks to the prequels, Anakin becomes Vader at a much younger age than implied by the originals. At no point in his life does Anakin/Vader ever look like an unblemished Sebastian Shaw in beige Jedi robes, so it doesn't make any sense for his ghost to look like an unblemished Sebastian Shaw in beige Jedi robes.

I'm not saying that means Lucas should have changed it. But I think that's what his reasoning was.

We had a marathon when we bought the set, because, y'know, how could we not, even with the new versions, and the credits for Return of the Jedi were punctuated by me growling and ranting at the TV for a while. Gahhhhhh~! If Lucas ever allows the plain, unaltered originals out on DVD, we're so buying them in half a second and chucking the new versions, in spite of the cool Death Star explosions. *incoherent furious flail!*

- y'know, my father-in-law has a VHS-to-DVD recorder thing for archiving all his old home movies. I wonder if I could find a copy of the original tape set Lucas put out in '95 or so right before the rerelease, and if I could convince him to let me use the recorder. *thoughtful*

And. AND. I like the original Ewok music SO MUCH BETTER. And the bit with the CG dancers in Jabba's palace? Painful and unnecessary. And powerful Hutts don't slither around on the ground, they have repulsorlift cradles so they can relax all the time -

Um.

Sorry. I'll shut up now.

WORD on the Ewok music and CG dancers. I never thought I'd miss that "yubby yub-mc-yub, YUB YUB" crap, but then they dumped the new music in and I loudly (and I mean loudly) sing the old music during the sequence just so I don't have to hear it.

The new music's boring. At least the yubby yub-mc-yub music sounded like a CELEBRATION. o.O

I'm just suprised Lucas didn't cut out the bits where we learn Ewoks eat people

There are places where you can get bootleg copies of the 1980's laserdisc release burned onto DVDs. Not that I am encouraging bootlegging or anything like that, noooo....

Nah, that's fine, I can wait until the movie comes out. I wasn't asking because I had to know right away, but rather because I don't have anything else to do until May 19.

But I am glad that everyone who's been spoiled has suggested to me that all my questions actually have answers. There were a couple that I wouldn't have blamed Lucas for not quibbling over.

Well, some you need to read between the lines. Allow me to give an example. There are things in the comics which are contradicted.

This is NOT a spoiler for the movie, but it IS background. I will reveal what is NOT revealed in the movie, but as it is background, I will leave space so you are not spoiled.

Ok, that should be enough spoiler space.

In the game Jedi Knight, they reference the Valley of the Jedi. Way back when, the Sith were a society, and there were lots of them. A Sith Lord, Darth Bane, was the sole surviver of a battle with the Jedi, in the trap which resulted in the spirits being trapped in the Valley. He felt there were too many Sith Lords, and so decided there would only be two at a time, a master, and an apprentice. So the Sith were trained this way, and as they fought to oppose the Jedi, they became better at stealth, and less open about their power. As a result, they were more powerful, as there was less infighting, and the individual Lords were able to follow their instincts. Thus revenge refers to all but one of the Sith Lords being killed.

This is technically not a spoiler, but it is a plot point in the movie.

Still interested? Ok.

Darth Sidious was undetected for a simple reason... HE WASN'T USING THE FORCE. He was using regular human ability, thus there was nothing to detect. He was able to cloak himself, and as that was what he was focusing on (think passive sonar) he was able to counter the Jedi's actions, without needing to use the force.

What is the Real ID Act?

Date: 2005-05-11 06:27 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
It's an act that was attached to that military appropriations bill that just passed, and it establishes a federal ID card for everybody that you'd need to travel and open a bank account and stuff. I can't really check my friends list for a link right now, but I know [livejournal.com profile] indigoskynet had a link to information on it on her LJ.
