I may need to find a new place to live soon.

Um, help?

Oh no! I live too far away to really help find you a new place....

You gonna be okay?

Aren't you lucky? I am the queen of finding places to live, and I'm in the DC area, too. Parameters, give me parameters!

Shoulda gone into real estate,
K

I don't know. This kind of came out of left field.

I want to cry and I have to board a bus in ten minutes.

Do you have a city we could help you look in?

Are you looking for somewhere general? A new start?

Have you checked the online newspapers?

Cheap, really cheap. Like painfully so. Near enough to the Metro system so that I can get to work. *hugs you*

I really need to stay in DC. I can't afford to move, especially back to PA like I'd like to, considering I have no car and no money to buy one, even a cheap one.

I haven't gotten to do anything yet. I just found out a few minutes ago, so ... yeah. *is still a little stunned*

>.< that sucks! God I hate apartment hunting, it's so stressful.

I've heard lots of good things about Rent.com. Maybe something there could be helpful.

Good luck!

*hugs you back* I hope you're okay. I will keep an eye out for you--my friends are always looking for roommates (and I usually am, too, but we just filled the room.) I feel you on the painfully cheap thing. :(

I think there's some reasonably-priced stuff in the Greenbelt area. Don't go for the place behind Greenbelt Plaza - it's close to Metro but unsafe. But there is a lot of stuff priced for students around the college, with busses to Greenbelt and College Park metro stations.

The Washington City Paper is usually a good place to look for roommates.
*hugs*

I hope you're OK sweetie. How soon do you have to move?

I'm sorry.

I know exactly how you feel, as this happened to us recently. It's awful, but you will find a new place and you will be okay!

Look in local community and neighborhood papers for rent-by-owner apartments in the ads in the back. We found that apartments offered there were a lot cheaper than if we'd gone to a rental agency, plus: no fee, which in Boston is 10 percent of a year's rent. We're happier here than where we were, and you will be too! Good luck! You have a lot of friends, and they'll help you.

I've actually had luck with roommate services online. Last year I ended up in a situation where I had to move fast and cheap and found my current roommates that I love. I used either Roommateclick.com or Roommateservice.com.

Good luck.

Sudden moves happened twice with my family when I was a kid, we lived in part of a two-family house and the house got sold.

The nice thing about apartment hunting, though, is that you can get all excited about having a place to reararnge things and decorate and maybe *this* one will stay neat when you put things away (hahahaha). Moving's kind of a bonus do-over. For me, anyway.

Good luck.

There's a lease, but yeah, everybody's moving, I guess. I don't think it's anytime soon, though, so at least I'll be able to save some money before then.

What I really wish I could do is move back to Scranton, but without a vehicle, I'm kind of screwed on that option.

that totally sucks.
I've seen people in that situation before.

'rents/faimly/freinds of faimly with the c@$h may be able to work out a 'personal loan' to help finance a vehicle if you can't find decent financing...

we usually pay a pt over savings accounts in my faimly. ensures that both sides win.

Eeeeh!

The places I searched for apartments are all larger named sites like apartments.com and forrent.com, which are useful only to find out what the "listed" complexes and such are. I wish I could help more, and good luck to you!
