I used my uncle's Fashion Bug card to buy a gorgeous baby pink broomstick skirt that I'm wearing today. It fits perfectly despite the fact that I bought it over the Internet, swirls gorgeously when I swing my hips, and did I mention it's pink?

Meanwhile, it lives in the same closet with The Skirt.

No good can come of this. I'm pretty sure they were plotting world domination before.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Also, my main impression of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was that my brother IS Mike Teevee, except not nearly as obnoxious.

My main impression was that Danny Elfman is a GOD.

My main impression was "It's like the book, thank gods!" That's why the first movie made me so unhappy, I'm such a book purist. (I read 101 Dalmations after seeing the movie and procalimed the movie to be utter crap.) The ending's not the same of course, but in the context it works great.

And much laughter at Violet just flipping all over the stairs. "I'm much more flexible now!" I bet you are, dear. There were so many adult innuendos.

I was thrilled over the closeness to the book. I knew Burton could do it.

And Elfman handled Dahl's original Oompa Loompa poetry WONDERFULLY.

How close was this ending to the book? It's been ~35 years since I've read the book, and Gene Wilder has long since embedded himself in my brain.

It twisted at the part where the elevator is hovering over and then crashes into the house. Since there's a backstory about Wonka, they used this as a way to lead to the end of that story and a good resolution. It's not a bad twist, and makes it so the loose ends are tied up.

I'm jsut glad they showed what happened to the kids walking out. The Wilder version just made them all dissapear like they were never heard from again, which annoyed me since I knew what happened.

I was too! I was always disappointed that we never saw them again in the first movie.

Since there's a backstory about Wonka

I am glad they tied up the backstory. I still prefer the way it ended in the first movie, but I'm sure I'll get used to this one.

The backstory was brand new, wasn't it? I don't know, but it just doesn't seem like original Dahl.

It was brand new. But it fit well with thie idea of Dahl's writing, with a dark seedy past.

It's a relief to hear someone saying good things about C&tCF, I did so want it to be wonderful, and so many on my flist have been casting aspersions. Mostly due to rabid devotion to the first version, I think.

And re: the skirt from Fashion Bug, as the Very Old Knight said in Indy Jones 3, "You chose wisely." Not even Fashion Bug could screw up a classic broomstick skirt, and they are really wildly popular this summer.

I'm rabidly devoted to the first, but I also had faith in Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. I think Gene was a *slightly* better Wonka, but otherwise I thought the new movie was better.

Oh! maybe your skirts will end up breeding, producing a line of skirts so fashionable, they can kill with their coolness....

You got another girly skirt?? What is this world coming to? ;)

I wanna see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. *sniffle* I might have to go next weekend after I get paid... assuming I have money after I pay my bills.

Oh, I love my girly skirts. I'd wear girly skirts every day if I could get away with it. *swishes the new pink skirt* :)
