The more I see promos for Sky High, the more I want to see it.

I feel like I should be horribly embarrassed about it, because it's Disney, and ... well, Disney. But at the same time, it hits on one of my XMM fic non-sexual kinks, which is superpowered student hijinks.

Also, there's Kurt Russell as a superhero. I love Kurt Russell. He's one of the few good things in the Poseidon Adventure remake. :)

Yeah, me, too. And my son is desperate to see it (he's obsessed with superheroes - his remark to me? "I want to be a superhero when I grow up, but I haven't figure out how to fly, yet.")

Kurt Russell makes me smile. Big Trouble In Little China.

'Nuff said.

If it makes him feel better, I haven't figured out flying yet, either. But then again, I've been focusing all of my energies on learning teleportation, so ... *shrugs* ;)

Have you ever read P.S. 238? It looks like Disney might've kinda stole the specific idea from there.

Oh, thank God, I thought I was the only one. ;_;

Oh, flying's easy.

Just throw yourself at the ground and miss.

But don't you have to be really really smart or really really (no, really) stupid to succeed?

naaaah.

You just need the instructions.

As long as you don't know the law of gravity, you're good.

That's what Bugs Bunny says, at least.

Me too.

I saw the trailer again when I went to see War of the Worlds and it looks pretty amusing.

I saw a TV promo for it last night which showed a little extra footage, with Kurt Russell saying about how he wants the whole family to be a superhero team. It was kinda cute. :)

Yes! Bruce Campbell! And Lynda Carter, and at least two of the Kids in the Hall! It's got some incredibly geeky casting, and I'm dying to see it. :)

I simply MUST see that movie. Kurt Russell, Bruce Campbell, Lynda Carter - goofiness. Oh and Kids in the Hall. What more could anyone want?

Poseidon Advendture remake?

OMG YAY!

I read the original book. The original book was brutal and mean and sad and completely violated many treasured Hollywood expectations. ('That'll never happen' and then it happens).

When I learn teleportation, I'm hitting libraries all across the land. Gotta read those old 'Transmet' graphic novels.

Well, the one he's starring in deviates from both the book and the movie, but Hallmark (yeah, that Hallmark) is apparently making a TV miniseries that tries to follow the book. (Thank GOD.)

One of the many reasons 'Big Trouble' is so awesome is because the movie's main character is so clearly the sidekick

It would be no surprise, since of late anything good Disney has done (that isn't by Pixar) is a ripoff of something or other. But even if they actually aren't, I'm no doubt going to go see Sky High and I'm reminded yet again that I need to look for PS 238 trades because I lost track of the storyline when I (mostly) quit buying comics.

I wonder where all the creative Disney writers went, though? Now it's almost all remakes, adaptations of amusement park rides, or thinly veiled "star" vehicles with utterly forgettable plots.

Even the strict adherence to G- and PG-ratings isn't fully responsible. Keep in mind that Mary Poppins, Swiss Family Robinson, Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang, Herbie the Love Bug and all of the classic animated flicks were family films. It just seems like Disney has focussed so utterly tightly on preteens and "tweens" (God, how I hate that term), that they've excised anything that the parents might also enjoy.
