You know what's the best thing about cleaning your room? Finding Suncoast gift certificates you didn't know you had. *happy dance*

So, yeah, I found gift certificates, and so this morning I went to Suncoast to pick up a DVD wallet for my trip on Saturday and a DVD or two. And do you know what those bastards did? (Aside from putting the DVD wallets on a high shelf. *grumbles* Tall assholes.) They got rid of the "Under $10" section, that's what they did. Well, okay, they didn't entirely get rid of it, but what they kept was almost entirely those $8.99 crappy movie collections. ([livejournal.com profile] dhaunea, if I had more cash to play with, I so would have bought the zombie movie collection and sent it to you. Ten bucks, nine bad zombie movies. You would have had a field day. ;))

They did leave a few decent "... the hell?!" movies in there, though -- I found Mars Attacks in there and was thiiiiis close to snatching it up when I saw Running On Empty for six bucks. BLAPHEMY. That movie is awesome, damn it. (And now it's MINE. MINE, MINE, MINE. Heh.) They also had With Honors for eight bucks, but there's only so many River Phoenix movies on the planet, unfortunately.

In other news, a review of Sky High. Well, it's nice to know it's not TOO horrible. I'm not going in expecting perfection by any means ... as long as they hit my bulletproof non-sexual entertainment kink of superpowered high school hijinks, I'm golden. :) (And it's not a surprise or anything, but apparently Disney's planning on making it into a TV series. Oh, God, I'm going to have to start watching a Disney Channel series, aren't I? Damn it, who do I have to kill to get a live-action X-Men TV series? *hits things*)

EDIT: I feel like I should add the fact that I taped that crappy Generation X TV movie a few years back and broke my tape watching it over and over and over again for lack of other options.

Running on Empty is excellent.

I really wish River Phoenix was still alive. I'd be curious to see what kind of roles he would be offered.

He was just such an amazing actor. I have Stand By Me, too, although I haven't watched the DVD since I bought it. I should, though -- that was a damn fine movie as well.

I hate to say it, because Joaquin is an equally good actor in his own right, but every time I see him in a movie, I think of River.

I think it's natural to think of both of them. Joaquin is really coming into his own as an actor (I thought he was great in Quills), but River was really a natural talent. Same raw energy as James Dean.

Stand By Me is a perfect example. His other credits aren't shabby either.

You know who I see filling his shoes? Not Leo. Joseph Gordon Levitt. I said after seeing Mysterious Skin that I was blown away by his sheer force of nature presence on-screen and that he was Dean/Phoenix-esque in that respect. And then I read the same thing in Entertainment Weekly.

Sigh-movies should be my day job.

Would it seal my geekdom if I offer to try and burn you a DVD from *my* tape copy? :)

Also, I squirrelled away one of the "Lost" DVD promo pins with you in mind, if you're interested.

OOO! OOO, OOO, OOO.

If it seals your geekdom, I think it might just seal mine as well, because I am totally up for a new copy. (And I can watch it like it's brand new because I can barely remember it! And I can recap it for [livejournal.com profile] plan_9_from_lj! *bounces around the room*)

The one with Matt Frewer? I used to have that on tape, too, but then I taped Alien Nation over it.

Londo's tentacle tends to have that effect on people :)

Dude, I LOVED that movie. It was complete crap, and I loved it.

Now I have to find my tape. I must have it somewhere.

It was horrible and I loved it, too.

I blame most of my numerous watchings of it on thinking the guy with the laser beams coming out of his eyes and the X-ray vision was hot. Mmm-hmm.

sky high

Seconded on the fact that Disney's Sky High will be amusingly, good summer escapism. I've seen the trailers and the sneak previews on Disney surfers and I am planning to go see the full movie when it comes out.

On the possibility of ever getting a live action X-Men tv series,
I wouldn't want to lay odds of Marvel or the powers that be ever
going that route. We're still waiting for the release of X-MEN
3 on the silver screen.

Gen X tv movie was decent for what it was, but I feel it
could have been well, more, and the villian was sometimes
over acted, but that's just me.

Take care, Karrenia

WAH! Must. go. to. Suncoast. (Just in case.) Must. Eat. Brains.

... oh wait, ignore that last one. No. Really.

Oh, yes, you must go. Aside from the original Night of the Living Dead, they all looked like awful low-budget zombie movies.

Man, I wish I'd bought it. *sigh*

If I can get it, I will find a way to share.

Bad zombie flicks are made to be inflicted on shared with others.

Damn, now I wanna see Sky High.

Too bad it's a Disney movie though. You could go to so many dark places (especially with the 'hot' Pyro boy).

I way want to see Sky High. But whenever I mention it to my friends I just get weird looks. *sigh* They don't understand my addiction to the Disney Channel either.

Also, I'm friending you.

I'm hoping I have the money and time to drag my little sis to see Sky High this weekend.

And a TV show? I will so start watching the Disney Channel again for that (yes, I used to watch Even Stevens and Lizzie Maguire and other assorted fun Disney shows).

A real live Xmen TV show would kill me dead - 'specially if Hugh Jackman was in it.

Way the hell off-topic...

Ooh, you're so lucky. I found Running On Empty in the $5 bin last winter and for some stupid reason I put it back. I'm still kicking myself.
