Movie trailers:

Munich -- Apparently, it's not so much about the massacre itself as it is about the Israeli assassins sent to kill the terrorists in the aftermath. It does look awesome, though, I'll give it that.

The Last Holiday -- Which looks kind of charming, but then again, Queen Latifah is good with that sort of thing.

Three of Hearts -- I can't remember how far back I went at Apple Trailers, so I may have already linked this (and the trailers following), but it looks like a really cool documentary of two men and a woman in a relationship together.

Wolf Creek -- OOO. Creepy.

Breakfast on Pluto -- Ah, Cillian Murphy is a pretty, pretty man. :)

And in other news, it appears that in an attempt to save marriage from those nasty homosexuals, Texans have voted into the state constitution an amendment that -- thanks to some stupid composition in the wording -- outlaws not just homosexual marriage, but ALL marriage. I really want to be pissed, but all I can do is laugh at the stupid and pray for some judge to try and enforce THAT part of the law. (Oh, and by the way, I can't WAIT to hear what Jon Stewart and Co. have to say about that tonight. *snickers in anticipation*)

::goes off to read about amendment::

::blinks:: Bwahahaha! I'm so glad I'm not from Texas! And Jon Stewart et al. must be sending the Texas Lege a thank you note right now, because they could do an entire friggin' show riffing off this stupidity :)

That was the first thing I thought when I saw that! (Right after I laughed out loud.)

I keep seeing everybody on my friends list who's all depressed and angry about it and want to respond to everybody, "Dude, read the wording of the thing they passed. It'll make you feel better."

I can't wait to see what happens when that 70 percent of Texans figures out what they put into law. *giggles*

HEE. I think I read a Queer as Folk fanfic like this once. Oh, wait ... yes, I did. ;)

You know, I am going to laugh my ass off if someone in the Texas legislature really actually worded it that way on purpose, knowing the damn thing would pass, in order to invalidate all marriage. I mean, wouldn't it be funny if this person did so with the exact agenda that just got defeated, then today was like, EXcellent. Now we have equal rights for all! No marriage! and the rest of the legislature (and 75% of Texas voters) would be like ...wait. WHAT?

...I am now envisioning everyone from Texas having to file federal taxes individually and then suing Texas for the difference...

I don't know a thing about QaF other than most of the main characters are gay, and I found that to not only be freakishly hilarious, but also abso-freaking-lutely brilliant. OMG.

Oh, I so want to see what happens when most of Texas realizes what it did. I can almost hear the collective DOH! coming. ;) (On one hand, I feel sorry for the sane Texans for this mess, but at the same time, the sane ones can always take comfort in knowing they have reading comprehension on their side. *giggles*)

I wish your scenario was true, but unfortunately it's not. The guy who proposed it apparently has a history of authoring discriminatory legislation like this.

What's really stupid is that since it's now a constitutional amendment, it will take a supermajority of the voters to overturn it.

Suffice to say, I'm not proud to be a Texan today.

From here (not exactly an unbiased source, I note):

The anti-Proposition-2 group, Save Texas Marriage, said that the language in the current measure, which states that Texas may “not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage" would invalidate traditional marriage. Supporters of the bill, which will go before voters on Nov. 8, said such statements were not true.

“They’re trying to play on words,” said amendment sponsor and State Rep. Warren Chisum (R-Pampa), according to the Associated Press. “Let me tell you, we had some very good legal scholars help put this language together.”

He said that when legislators discussed the proposed amendment earlier this year, they agreed that traditional and common law marriage would not be affected.

I called my mom this afternoon to tell her that she and my dad are living in sin now. She said, "Well, I always wanted to try it, I just never had the nerve!"

Don't get excited, everyone. I read earlier today that the TX Attorney General had already stated that the amendment does not invalidate straight marriage.

:) If you think the state of Texas is just going to allow all marriages to become nonexistent, you're more optimistic than I am.

I am from Texas, and Prop 2 makes me sad. ;___;

However, this fact that all marriages are null and void makes me feel better.

I have never been more ashamed by my state that on this day. Only one county didn't overwhelmingly pass this amendment, mine.

Bye, bye civil unions.

I just know from history that appellate courts don't necessarily have the same legal opinions as legislatures or executive officers. And the courts get to decide on constitutionality.

Man, how could I forget?

Don't watch Wolf Creek. It's bad, and only gets worse when the "real life" bits of the story are revealed in the afterword. Bad. Bad, I say!
