You know what I realized just now that I didn't realize last night about the Tailaways?

If last night's episode is any indication, the Tailaways have never seen the jungle monster. Or either of the polar bears. They were all just clumping through the jungle with absolutely no fear of either one.

They've seen a hell of a lot more of the Others than the Lostaways, but no jungle monster or polar bears.

*nods* And even though they've seen a Dharma Initiative bunker, they don't know what it was used for at all. A bible and a glass eye do not a creepy-thing make...

That's true. Maybe the Others are what the 'security system' is meant to keep out.

Hmm. So. "Security system"/monster. Others. Dharma Foundation. Polar Bears. Survivors of flight 815. Danielle. This is one darn crowded island.

I think the polar bear/monster definitely is all Walt related. I frankly think Rousseau's babbling about the Security System is pure dementia and I take nothing she says as credible. She might have been cast-off from the others (Desmond too) and the result drove her batshit.

It IS crowded. Reminds me of Neverland, with the Pirates, the Lost Boys, the Indians and the Animals all following each other around and around.

I think the Peter Pan allusions are very intentional.

The polar bears were scared of Ana Lucia and Giant Nipple Man. I don't blame them.

And the chicken... I could be completely wrong, but I didn't realize that chickens usually inhabited tropical islands... definitely not as weird as the polar bear but if I saw a chicken on a 'deserted' tropical island I might wonder what the hell is was doing there. Though, if chickens are the norm on these kinds of islands, everyone would point and ask if I was stupid but...

I was wondering about the chickens too...definitely weird.

Slave ship crashed there, remember? Ships usually kept small livestock like chickens for aggs/meat. A couple of roosters mixed in and you'd have a good little chicken colony.

They're not all that uncommon in the pacific I've been told.

Yeah, but I'm talking from the perspective of the Tail end people -- they didn't know anything about the slave ship. And if they came to the conclusion that the chickens belonged to the others, I'd still, in their position, wonder how the chickens got free since, if they were brought along with the others initially, it won't make any sense to let the chickens run wild through the jungle as opposed to keeping them caged so that they're easier to catch.

It wouldn't be unreasonable to assume some escaped. They can be surprisingly agile little bastards.
