So I'm back from seeing Brokeback Mountain.

*sighs* I want that.

I mean, not the badness and the mean people and stuff. And no, before anyone asks, not Heath Ledger or Jake Gyllenhaal, although I wouldn't throw either one away if given them as a late Christmas present or something.

But, you know ... *gestures in the general direction of the movie theater where it's playing* ... THAT.

That's probably why I'm still single. Mmm-hmm.

I saw it this afternoon, and...yeah. That kind of reckless, all-consuming love that really doesn't care who it hurts (which is kind of a bad way of putting it, but...yeah) and is the very opposite of mundane. That whole force of nature thing.

Which really proves that my mysanthropy and the fact that I spent a lot of high school in the library have caught up with me.

Ah, the longing. Unfortunately it's usually what we can't really HAVE that inspires that kind of longing. Sucks. I'd love to be with someone who I at least for *some time* got to long for. It's never happened with anyone I've actually been with.

It can happen. I've been with my boy for almost five years now and he recently joined the Army Reserve, taking him away from me for a month at a time over two months - right before and right after Christmas.

And I long for him while he's away... all the time. Everything I do, I do without him, consciously aware he's not there, feeling oddly like when I'm happy I'm just playing a part, when I'm working I'm just passing time 'til I see him again.

At the same time, a longterm relationship always falls into the "mundane" sometimes - comfortable familiarity. That has it's appeal too.

I know what you mean. I feel like that with my (male) best friend - like we've known each other too long for me to feel any attraction. I almost always feel more attraction to people I have just known.

BTW, love the handle. I have one of my own and live with six, total :)

I want someone to kiss me like they kiss after not seeing each other for four years. Yeah, that.

Apparently no theater in the state of NC is allowing the showing of Brokeback Mountain. Thank you, Bible belt.

Are you sure? My sister lives in Carrboro and she says it's playing there.

I knew as soon as I said that it would turn out to be just a rumor. I don't know the story behind that one, but I just looked again and one theater in Charlotte is playing it. They play everything at that theater though- it's the only one that played "Dreamers" a few years ago. Oops :)

That's exactly what I thought when I read the short story for the first time, even though it made me cry.

*sigh* Sometimes it's a little depressing being a twentysomething single girl with unrealistic expectations from reading too much, no?
