Dear Congress:

I worked for seven months as a telemarketer. Considering the turnover rate in the telemarketing business, that's like working for fifty years in any other job.

Let me help you out with the rules. When someone tells you they want to be put on a Do Not Call List, you have to listen. You can't argue, you just have to spew your little DNC spiel, say thank you for your time, and hang up.

If fifty million people tell you that they don't want to be called, you're screwed.

Would you like this explained? Let's say there are 300 million people in the United States. If you figure the number of people who are under the age of 18, in hospitals, in nursing homes, in jails, in mental institutions, and/or those who live without phone access, do you realize how many people are left? Probably a little over fifty million.

Do the math. Nearly everybody who gets called by telemarketers just told them all to fuck off.

So why don't you try ... oh, I don't know ... listening to them?
