Mar. 22nd, 2006 09:07 amSo I get the next week off of work, plan to go jogging or walking this morning, and I wake up to a stomachache and flurries. Bah, I say. BAH.
Go vote in the Ask Questions Later Reader's Choice Poll! I really do have to go through and read all the stories, 'cause I missed a bunch. And look, there's mine! *pokes it with a stick* :)
Watching TAR last night made me think that what this season could really use is for Killer Fatigue to set in -- not for everybody, though. Just for the Fratards and Hippies. Actually, what the Fratards could use is the elimination of Danielle and Dani. Not that I don't like the Pinks, because I do in spite of the fact that these just aren't the type of girls I'd be friends with in real life. (I'd probably hang with Lori, Desiree and Monica before those two -- Lori because she's the type of person I hang out with anyway, Desiree because she's smart and a writer, and Monica because now that we've gotten past the initial stress of the Race, she's actually pretty adorable.) It's just that they're distracting the hell out of the Fratards, which sadly says a lot about the Fratards because they're distracted by every piece of tail that crosses their path and they're STILL in first. Luck of the evil doesn't even begin to describe it.
The thing is, I know it's not going to happen, but I really hope that if Killer Fatigue sets in, they'll knock it off. I certainly can't fault their Racing ability. What I'm really hoping for, though, is that eventually they'll realize those cameras are broadcasting -- to their families, their MOMS, their friends, girls in the States. Unfortunately, I don't even think their behavior is really going to strike them as all that horrible, not even when they see people's disgust with it at TARcon. They get friends and girls like this in real life, so they've got to be used to it and think it's great.
As for the Hippies, I swear to God that the only problem I have with them is the mugging. They're nice guys, they Race well, they're enjoying the experience, they work well together, they're kind to teammates and people they meet on the Race, and they're well-rounded. BUT all of that is offset by the fact that they're behaving like idiots -- most especially Tyler. (Tranquilizer darts. BJ should be issued them.) No one sits around having to point out those very same qualities in, say, Dave and Lori or Monica and Joseph, who might not be Racing quite as well as the Hippies or know as many foreign languages but do me a particular favor by not spending most of their screen time acting like Phil needs to call in spazz wranglers. It's like Miss Alli pointed out regarding that cathedral in Moscow. Yes, it's beautiful. Have a little respect, keep quiet, remark, "Wow, this is gorgeous." What you DON't do when a camera is right next to you is announce, "Dude, let's take a moment and admire the cathedral." NO. I know there's a camera there, and you know there is. But please don't play to it. I want to forget there's a camera there, which I can't do if you keep acting like goofballs to get one pointed at you. One of the main reasons I love this show is that because the pace is so fast and the traveling is so distracting, it does kind of feel like you're right there, and that there's-a-cameraman-with-us feel isn't there (the Amazing Editors doing such a bang-up job for all nine season editing them out of the shots helps immensely).
And I can't do that when the Hippies are going to play up their goofiness for the cameras. Dude, no offense, but I'd rather have witty over goofy if this is what goofy will get me. Like I said, though, they're competent, kind, and having fun, so if KF could kick in just so they can tone it down, I'd appreciate it.
Also, totally unrelated to the Fratards, I'm starting to love Monica and Joseph waaaaaaay too much. Yeah, yeah, the nickname was annoying. (Notice I say "was" -- as long as I don't have to see T-shirts, I'm good. Anytime T-shirts are made to be worn for this show, I cringe.) But I like their attitude and they're getting hotter with every episode. :)
I feel the urge to write Wincest today. Or, you know, just any fic. And I have all day to do it, too. Wheeeee! :)
