The doorbell just rang and when I went to answer it, I found a note from the water company saying the water was getting shut off because my $500 bill was overdue. And while I was standing there with my mind boggled thinking, "Bullshit, I've been paying all of my bills like clockwork since I moved in," the water guy came back to double-check and it turned out he tagged my second-floor apartment instead of the first-floor apartment he was supposed to get.

Yeah, that's just what I needed, to have the crap scared out of me about money. Grrrr.

Yikes! That's a definite "heart in throat" moment if ever there was one. Glad it turned out to be a false alarm for you.

In my first apartment after college, the power company accidentally set me up to pay the bill not for my apartment but for one all-night light fixture outside...so I show up one night three months after I move in to find the power off because, hey, the company had never gotten paid for the apartment's power. Insanely, the two bills were about the same amount, certainly not an amount to make me say, "What am I paying for?" Still, annoying that I got inconvenienced for someone else's mistake.

Oh well. At least your heart got the good workout. It'll get better workouts when, for instance, you find whomever you'll first sleep with. ;-)

Thankfully though it turned out to be a false alarm.

What's worse is when Joe Random-Knucklehead actually follows through and shuts it off without double-checking.

Had that happen with my cable twice in Texas; and both times the company tried to charge me an activation fee to turn it back on!

Well, the great thing is that my cable, phone and Internet access will never be a problem, because my mom works for the phone company that supplies all three and I'll get a head's-up really early if I ever have a problem. :)

Whoa.

Glad it got sorted out without much wailing or gnashing of teeth.
