Okay, I've got a question, because I was just wondering this and I haven't really seen anybody say anything about it.

All right, so as far as I can tell from everybody else's reviews, we're pretty sure "Are you ready for Judgement Day?" on the Salvation sign was an anvilicious message to John because of the "JW 2:27" that follows. JW, as in John Winchester.

So here's my question -- what's the 2:27 supposed to mean? It seems kind of random to just throw in there. It's not the date of whatever's happening in the episode (at least, it doesn't look that way), it's not Sam's birthday or Dean's, it's not the day Mary died ... so what is it?

I thought it was a reference to a passage from the bible but John stops at 2:25. So much for my bright idea.

If I were to pick a book for this show it would be Revelations. 2:27 says, "And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father." Which...huh. Interesting.

I was thinking the same thing. I also looked up any reference to Judgment Day, but none of the occurrences happen at 2:27 of any book in the bible.

Yeah, that makes sense in a very depressing sort of way. (I'm kind of the last person who'd know anything about the Bible, but I figured it had to be something in there.)

Hum. *frowns*

I assumed it was from the bible, but that is so weird.

I totally need to go and pull out the bible...

Maybe it's not even 2:27, maybe it's 227, or 2.27.

Hey, isn't Dean 27? Humm...

My 'Lost' feelers are flaring. I must look into this, because it's just plain weird.

Heh. I just mentioned this a bit ago in my episode review. It does look like a huge anvil.

Makes me think of that Depeche Mode song, John the Revelator.

I've been doing some reading now (no, I have no life whatsoever, why do you ask?). I still think Rev 2:27 sounds best, but there are a couple of other interesting candidates.

Acts 2:27: Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

1 John 2:27: But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

I thought maybe it was anvilicious in perhaps using one of the Samuels, but First Samuel sounds sorta nebulous, and second is the midst of a longer account: 2:25-28:

And the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together after Abner, and became one troop, and stood on the top of an hill.

Then Abner called to Joab, and said, Shall the sword devour for ever? knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? how long shall it be then, ere thou bid the people return from following their brethren?

And Joab said, [As] God liveth, unless thou hadst spoken, surely then in the morning the people had gone up every one from following his brother.

So Joab blew a trumpet, and all the people stood still, and pursued after Israel no more, neither fought they any more.

Anyway. There are obvious biblical references scattered all around SPN -- Mary, John (the Baptist), Samuel (Jesus), Dean (Biff) -- but where K/et al are going with it, hell if I know. As it were. *G*

Okay I found some stuff. First off, Jehovah's Witness - JW.

Second:

New Testament:

The First Epistle General of John

1 John 2:27 --> But the anointing which ye have recieved of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all thing, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Okay, and then I found this on a bible website:

2:25 and because he needed not that any one should bear witness concerning man; for he himself knew what was in man.

John gives us many examples of this supernatural knowledge which Jesus possessed. See John 1:42,47,48 John 3:3; John 4:29; John 6:61,64; John 11:4,14; John 13:11; John 21:17. This chapter itself gives us a faithful picture of "what was in man". We find in it temples, profaners, money-makers, sign-seekers, opposers of reform, false and weak professors of faith, etc., but none to whom Jesus could trust himself.

So I dunno what to think.

"And he shall rule them with a rod of iron..."

Isn't there more than one rod of iron amongst that cast?

*waggles eyebrows*

*snickers* That is very bad... also, "rod" is sometimes slang for gun.

And somehow it took one of the straight male readers of Our Lovely Host to come up with that... ;-)
