If I had two personal days left, I would SO take tonight off. First, we were only being sent over to the other side of the plant for a week. Now, it's "You're not coming back until you get your numbers up." Which we'd love to do, if the machines didn't SUCK. Surprisingly enough, if you've always got technicians hovering over your machine, it might not actually be YOUR fault. The machine might just be crap.

BLARGH. *needs nap*

I didn't tape the Top Chef finale, but it's not like it won't be rerun anytime soon. Yay for Bravo rerunning everything into the ground. THANK GOD. If Harold hadn't won I would have thrown something.

There's a lot of talk on the TWoP boards about how Tiffani's behavior would have been taken by the audience if she were a man, if she would have gotten away with it without being called a bitch or an asshole. You know what? I've seen Tiffani's behavior as performed by a man, his name was Santino, and I didn't like it then, either. Not everyone called her on her shit because she was a woman, most of us were doing it because she really IS a bitch. Sheesh.

I have only one comment on the American Idol results, considering I've managed to avoid seeing pictures of the two finalists until yesterday -- I know that guy! He wore a turtleneck, followed the Animaniacs around and bored the hell out of them with Ben Stein's voice! Wasn't his name Pip? OMIGOD, PIP WON AMERICAN IDOL?!

In summation, I miss The Animaniacs. And also, Freakazoid. Which, really, I don't think is the summary of opinion the AI producers want from me.

Nominations for the Lawrence Awards end on Sunday. Aw, lookie! My name's on there. *happy dances* Thanks, whoever nominated me. :) I really have to go and make sure that at the very least I make my het nominations, although I haven't gotten most of the rest of the stuff I wanted to nominate in yet, either. I'm the only author nominated for het? Really? *needs to work on that* (What does it say about my writing the past six months that I didn't even bat an eyelash at the slash nomination, but the het nomination made me freeze and go, "I write het?! Oh, wait, yeah, I do. I write a lot of it. DUH." *snickers*)

[livejournal.com profile] insidian, I swear I am on that writing assignment like white on rice. Like yellow on cheese. Like hazel green on Jensen's pretty, pretty eyes. Okay, I'll shut it now.

But I think most of the contestants *liked* Santino, and everybody seems to hate Tiffini quite a bit. He didn't have a 'negitive engery' both like Dave and Lee Ann said Tiffani has.

to both you and tp.

That may just be individual differences, though -- we don't know what they're like in person because we aren't privy to what the editing room doesn't let us see. Plus we don't have to work with them.

I think the major argument is over the audience reception.
I agree that I would have thought a male bitchy guy was just as much of a bitch, but hey, some people might not. Who knows.

For that matter, I hated Steven until the reunion show -- I'm rather shocked at how polite he got in the last few eps.

When the other contestants talk about her, it isn't flattering. Every contestant who was asked on bravotv.com, if the show misrepresented Tiffini, said that the show was actually kinder to her then she was in reality. The hostility at the reunion show was really telling in my opinion.

The reunion show made me actually *like* Stephen because I felt he saw how others see him, and was ashamed. Where as Tiff saw nothing wrong with her behavior.

She's like anti-self actualized.

Wow - I can't believe that she actually looks better on camera! That's some amazing levels of bitchy, there.

I'm exactly where you are about Stephen. I was really impressed with him. I think he had no idea how he came off to others.

Tiffani...I don't know. She seems to me like someone who's developed a very defensive outer shell to combat insecurities, and now she has no idea how to drop it. She's a control freak, she has to do everything herself, and she doesn't want anyone to do better than her.

Which is too bad, because she has moments of being nice. But then she'll go around and lie to everyone to cover her ass. It seems almost pathological lying/bitchiness, like she can't attach to anyone.

...at least, I'd like to think she can't help it.
But you're right, she's definitely not self-actualized. She's so far in this world of me, my way, on my own, in control, that admitting failure is impossible.

I think the thing with people like Santino and Stephen and Tiffani is the difference between hanging out with them and working with them. I doubt I could ever work with Santino, but seeing him with his friends gives me the impression he'd be a lot of fun to hang out with. Likewise, Stephen would be a terrible coworker but if he's anything like the arguing jeans-wearing drunk, I'd love to go out to a club with him.

Tiffani, on the other hand, seems like neither the kind of coworker I'd loathe and the kind of acquaintance I'd avoid.

Yes, definitely. I think that was echoed on the show, too. Although Steven got a bit better on the work end of things in the season finale (part one and two) - I think he needed to see how much people hated him. But I think you're right that he'd be a lot more fun to hang out with. And Santino, definitely. He's a cool guy, I just wouldn't be able to deal with the bitching in the workplace.

On a side note: any votes for Harold's restaurant to be a new reality show? I mean, at least one other member of the cast's going to work there. (A "very special person", ahaha. I'm betting Dave, but as Dave/Harold/Stephen is my new OT3, I want Stephen as sommelier.)

Well, that's true. In retrospect, she's probably more the Wendy Pepper while Stephen was more the Santino. For all the complaints everybody had about Stephen being a smug bastard, they did seem to like him in the end if their behavior at the reunion was any indication. Tiffani's just a whiny wench.

Plus, the show made it seem like she flat out *lied* to the judges about the desert. She made it seem like she was the brains behind it, and all Dave did was follow her directions. When in 'reality' (again according to the show) Dave boned up on dessert, he came up with the recipes, and he generously let Tiffini use the recipes and his skills in her challenge.

That sort of dishonesty, or at least misrepresentation of the truth, makes it really, *really* hard to reward people.

Man, I'm really starting to sound like a Tiffini basher, and I don't really mean to because she seemed to be a really great chef, she just has *no* people skills. And that may be why the others on the show didn't like her. She was just so competitive that she lost all perspective.

Which has happened to me, I mean I get all competitive with grade schoolers about Connect Four and Mancala, so ::shrug::

Agreed. I really don't trust anyone who comes on a reality show and says, "I'm not here to make friends." And I especially think it's ridiculous because how many people have actually said that particular phrase and won?

I might have to join that club. Although I'm also seeing a Stephen/Harold/Lee Anne mussed-up triangle thing and, gah.

Top Chef has sautéed my brain.

...Oh, God, we're doomed.

I so want her to update that thing again. Soooo badly. Oh, man. Seriously. I need material. And an icon.

Re Dave/Stephen: Haha, can you see Steven trying to be all profound and drunk and comparing Tiff to some sort of poorly-aged wine, and Dave rolling his eyes (although it'd be helped by the booze) and making some sort of witty comment? And then the miming and the sock puppet talking behind her back in the kitchen? And the giggling? And the drunken sex?

Crap.
