Familial "Da Vinci Code" bitchery

So it turns out that my father wants to see the movie about as much as I want to finish reading the book. Which led to this fun conversation:

Mom: Well, Laurie (our cousin) and I are going to see it no matter what you people think. *pointed look at us* Did you even finish that book?
Me: Oh, Mom, you really hate me that much?
Mom: Come on ...
Me: It's just so awful.
Mom: It can't be bad! Millions of people bought it!

Oh, Mother. I'm going to start to take comments like that as more evidence I simply sprung fully formed from my dad's forehead.

I continued to cough and sneeze like an idiot for the rest of the afternoon, until I flopped down on my stomach on the carpet in the living room to watch The Patriot with everybody else and the kitten decided the comfiest sleeping spot in the room was the small of my back.
