Aaaaaaaand I'm back from the dentist.

The butcher's bill: Four teeth that may need to come out, three open cavities, two teeth with calcification spots on them, and an absess.

Still not located: The partridge in a pear tree.

Admittedly, one of the cavities is in a wisdom tooth that's coming out, but still. See, kids, this is why you should go to the dentist on a regular basis. That, and the opportunity to get "You'll Be A Dentist" stuck in your head every six months.

I'm in the same boat - I'm ashamed to have a professional start poking around in there. But pretty soon I'm going to have to go, because my wisdom teeth are coming in, and I've no idea if there's room for them.

My big problem isn't even the pain. I have a really high tolerance for pain. But the prospective bill for all the work is eight hundred bucks for all of the work. Dude, if I had $800 to my name, I wouldn't HAVE $800, I'd have an empty bank account and a new laptop.

Actually, for what you've listed needs to be done, that's damn cheap.

It cost almost $300 for me to get my two wisdom teeth out.

But, yeah. Dentists used to not be my friend either.

Well, yeah, it's relatively cheap with the insurance involved but I'm also relatively broke. Therein lies the downside. :)

It's not even the dentist or doctor or whatever I'm going to that makes me nervous ... it's the offices. Something about a medical office creeps me out.

For just one root canal and a temporary cement cap for one tooth I got charged $450!. To have the nice porcelain cap would have cost me another $250, so guess who just lives with the cement cap. Like you, I have a high pain threshold so that isn't a problem. However hemorrhaging money kills me. I'd probably take better care of my teeth if it didn't cost so fricken' much

Oh MAN. *hugs to bits* I've got horrible teeth myself, and a phobia of the dentist, and just reading this made me cringe and hide my face in sympathy.

Hope it's all quick and as painlessly fixable as possible.

I hear ya. BOY do I ever hear ya. I just got done with most of my appointments to fix all the holes in my teeth--still have to finish off that last root canal!--and my cleaning. Then I won't see them, or them me, until January. The prospect is so...amazing, considering I've been there on and off since last AUGUST.

...actually, anyone have an MP3 of "Be A Dentist"? It'd be a great song to listen to at work. ;)

You're getting all of your wisdom teeth taken out? Heh. I just did that yesterday. It's not so bad. If you and anesthesia don't react well with each other than it sort of sucks but otherwise...not too bad. You'll most likely sleep most of it away (like I was doing all day yesterday and today)

Well, three of the wisdom teeth have to come out. The cracked tooth on my upper right side may have to get pulled, too, if I can't afford the good stuff. Here's hoping, though, because if I have to get someone to cosign for a freaking $800 loan I'm going to feel like a dumbass.

The pain and the shots and everything is nothing compared to how badly the financial stuff is making me worry.
