So now that I have a working computer ...

I can do a more in-depth post on my thoughts on last night's Project Runway and the season so far based on that.
Okay, so now we've seen more than one outfit from each of the designers, because last week half of the designers didn't really get a chance to display their work since they had to work with someone else's design. So, my thoughts on each of their individual styles (just for the designers we have left, though):
Laura -- My thing with Laura is that I adore her designs, but I don't think I could get away with wearing any of them and I'm not even sure I could stand to hang around with her. But seriously, I loved that coat from the apartment challenge, and while I was iffy on the Miss USA dress, the dog challenge look was very cute. When Robert said she confused taste with style, I had to back him up on that, though. She's got impeccable taste and style, but it's her own and she really gets a little uppity about hers in regards to the way it looks compared to others. But, hell, you'll get that from someone who wears cocktail dresses to a sewing workroom. Also, I've got to say that I love that she and Michael are best friends. Out of all of the people on the show, they are the last two I ever would have thought would get along so well.
Robert -- I think I love Robert's sense of humor more than his sense of style. Not that I don't love his style -- I think that's adorable. But he keeps busting out this really dry wit, and every once in a while he just comes out with these dorky little moments, like when he was trying to get his dog's picture. That was too cute. Plus, his facial expressions and eye-rolling make me giggle. Half of the fun of watching Robert work is watching him. (And listening to him, because he can be such a goofball.)
Kayne -- Oh, adorable lovable Kayne. I really do think he's too cute, and I like his style a LOT -- it's bright and colorful and sparkly and I've loved all three of his outfits, especially the apartment one. The thing he did with the orange bathmat and trailing streamers behind the dress made me fall head over heels for it. As for Kayne himelf, I get the impression from the preview for next week -- not that I hadn't already gotten that impression -- that he's very much a Libra. "Here, let's everybody get comfortable and tell me if you need anything and if you have any problems let's try and talk them out, okay?" Whoever gets kicked off next week, I imagine it's more of a technical thing than a hard and fast rule if Robert and Kayne are taking sides over it.
Vincent -- Insane. Thoroughly utterly insane. And I don't like his designs at ALL. I kinda like his enthusiasm, because even if you're fucking nuts and your clothes suck, I like a guy who's at least trying. Apathy gets to me if you went through all the trouble to get on a show like this. (See: Every time someone's pissed me off on a reality show saying, "We're out," over and over again. Shut it and try, damn it. That means YOU, Bradley.) But, yeah, I can't stand his designs. You were a designer in the '80s? Yeah, funny how that doesn't show in your clothes at all. *eyeroll* Oh, and I meant to say this after last week's episode, but I feel a little weird but putting aside the fact that he was a real jerk about it, I get where he was coming from with trying to do everything for his team and not letting Angela do much. I have a bad habit of doing that myself at work, a lot of which comes from the same thing Katie didn't want to get kicked off for -- it wasn't her design, and she didn't want to get the blame for it. If I'm going to be in charge, I'd rather make the mistake that gets me in trouble myself. Not that I condone his actions, but I get it.
Angela -- God, I hate her. I hate her so fucking much, and her clothes are NOT helping. You know, one bubble skirt would be fine. I actually like the bubble skirts individually, and I honestly thought upon seeing the one she wore to the roof party in the first episode that it was cute. But she's worn two of them already and then she makes one for a challenge? Uh-uh. Nope, not having it. I liked her first outfit, but her attitude with Vincent rankled and harrassing Kayne bugged the hell out of me, too. And I seriously didn't appreciate the fact that her story didn't match her dog outfit. Well, unless her Paris art school was some elaborate cover for a French whoring institute. The sad part? I would wear everything in her wardrobe, with full knowledge while doing so that I have absolutely no fashion sense in regards to myself.
Bradley -- He himself is ... meh. He seems okay most of the time, but then I keep getting the niggling feeling that there's something creepy underneath it all. (Unlike Keith, who wears his creepiness on his sleeve.) His style throws me. I wouldn't wear the dress he made for the dog challenge, but I would wear the comforter dress from the first episode with the total understanding that I would be mocked. I'd call it ugly-stylish -- it's all a little odd to look at, and I'm not sure I could wear either outfit, but nonetheless I kind of like them. I didn't much like this "I'll just send nothing down the runway" attitude (and how stupid was it that "My dog doesn't wear outfits" Keith was telling him you can't do that?), but I did like the fact that he woke up about the fact that in doing so, he'd screw up his model's chances and pulled something out of his ass in the last minute.
Alison -- God, she's too cute. And I love how soft-spoken she is, and I don't know why, but her aesthetic is probably my favorite out of all of the designers. I was trying to come up with exactly how to describe it, but "Emily the Strange hooked up with Barbie and now they design casual businesswear" didn't sound quite right. I DON'T CARE. I covet every single piece she makes, and I can't even explain it. Plus, she seems so damn sweet. Oh, please don't turn out to be a secretly heinous bitch. *crosses fingers*
Jeffrey -- Damn. I thought I'd hate Jeffrey a lot more than I do, and at this point, I really sort of ... well, don't. Not that I like his aesthetic -- oh, I loathe what I've seen on the runway so far. (I do like the stuff in his portfolio, though -- I'd love to see him get a chance to do some of that.) But he's not nearly the Santino I thought he'd be, and he's not nearly as bad at this point as Keith, Angela, or Vincent, so he wins on that count. It did sell me on him a little more that he got all giddy and happy about the dog challenge, or maybe just playing with the dog. That was cool.
Keith -- Well, at least he's pretty. If he pisses me off, I can always just turn down the volume and look at him. The thing is that I really have liked everything he's made so far, but seriously, knock off the attitude. I think the only reason I'm giving him leeway at this juncture is the same reason I give other people leeway for the same behavior on these shows. I'll let some arrogance if a.) you can back that shit up with real talent and b.) you entertain me. Admittedly, pulling shit like not making an outfit for the dog drives me nuts, but I'm hoping he's the guilty party who gets kicked off and he's not long for this world.
Michael -- I really do like Michael's designs a lot. The coffee filter dress was one of my favorites from the first episode, and I love the top of the dress he made for the dog challenge. Again, wasn't really thrilled with the dress he and Laura made for Miss USA, but they worked well together and the friendship between them is really cool to watch. Plus, he's one of the designers this season I'd most love to hang out with -- he seems like he'd be a great time.
Uli -- I wasn't sure at the beginning that I'd like Uli, but she's grown on me. She herself is very sweet and nice, and I love her personal style. Her design style is awesome as well -- her dog challenge design was gorgeous, and I thought "HI LADIES" was too cute. I think my only real concern with her at this point is that she's done three beautiful dresses at this point and they all kind of look a LOT alike. Not that they're not pretty -- they're fabulous -- but it's like when I read a talented fic writer who only sticks to certain pairings and fandoms and points of view and I think, "God, would I love to see if you tried something different." I'm really hoping we'll see more of that from her this season.
Bonnie -- I like Bonnie's design style a lot, in particular that first dress. So far, though, I think a lot of what we've seen of Bonnie is that sunny personality and the way she works well with others. The sunny personality and the fact that she's constantly smiling gets to me every once in a while, but she seems to be a great person, so I try to hold back.
YAY! I can type again! *flails*
Heh. Sorry. Had to get that out of my system. ;)

Date: 2006-07-29 02:52 am (UTC)2. Vincent: Man is batshit, but I think he's being edited more batshit than he actually is. Like the laughing thing? We all get slaphappy sometimes, and hat on a dog is funny. I don't like Vincent, and his designs so far are craptastic, but I don't think he's bucking for a straitjacket.
Yet.
3. Laura: I <3 Laura. I love her designs, I love her bitchyass attitude, I adore her relationship with Michael, but woman needs a sandwich. Possibly stapled to her sternum. Because who needs to see that? I mean, REALLY. Also, step OFF insulting Team OTP's sense of style. Kayne and Robert are FABULOUS.
4. Angela: Have you SEEN her website? I just... I can't even. Haaaaaaaate.
5. Uli: Same dress. Three times. Or, if you look through her portfolio, three THOUSAND times. I'm waiting for something new and different from her. That doesn't involve a halter.
6. The Dogs: Didn't you love how everyone picked the dog that was THEM?
7. HI!

Date: 2006-07-29 10:56 am (UTC)2. I have the feeling that in real life, I'd actually kind of like Vincent. Not so much with the liking as with the entertaining me with the crazy. And yes, dog in a hat? Funny. Little dogs in hats? Funnier.
3. The Laura-Michael friendship is the best thing ever, right after the Kayne-Robert friendship. I just love the fact that the big black hip-hop guy from Atlanta and the Central Park West business mommy clicked like that. That's some kind of awesome.
But, yes, a sandwich is in order, and no knocking on Kayne or Robert. They are my babies and I love everything they do and ... and ... *cuddles them protectively*
4. I'm afraid to open her website. I'm scared it will open a portal to Hell.
It's terrifying to discover the producers could find someone I hate even more than Wendy Pepper, but my GOD, they have. That's probably just me, though, and I know it's only been three episodes, but I just ... I need a four-by-four and five minutes alone with her. ARGH.
5. Seriously. It's a very pretty dress to see five million times over again, but it's still the SAME DRESS. I do like her, though. She seems sweet.
6. Oh, YES. That was awesome. Just ... Bradley and Stanley! Alison and Pepito! Keith and Morgan! Katie and that fluffy little puppy dog that gave her a high five! Jeffrey getting all goofy about getting to play with the corgi! And Robert and his dog, which just ... HEE.
I think my favorite was Laura's dog, because for dealing with someone not all that comfortable with dogs, that little cutie was just the most patient dog. "Sure, I'll sit in your purse. Are you done drawing my outfit yet? Here, let me sit perfectly still while you squeeze me into it!" *snickers*
7. HI BACK! :)
*pounces*
