I would appreciate overtime much more if I had spent it doing actual work that needed doing rather than bullshit rework without a deadline. Bitches, why give out overtime if you don't have anything for the overtimers to do? Sheesh.

I still haven't watched my tape of Heroes and Studio 60 yet. It's probably a good thing I taped Heroes even though I saw the pilot weeks ago since they apparently fucked with a couple of scenes and the pilot I saw ended about three seconds earlier, if you get my meaning. I also think just from watching the preview for this season that the writers need to stop encouraging my cracked-out conspiracy theories, since I've had this out-of-left-field theory from day one of seeing the pilot that Claire's birth parents are Niki and Nathan from some quickie teenage fling and showing Niki giving Nathan (at least that's who it looks like from behind) the hot-and-heavy cam-whore look is NOT helping.

I also think Nathan's Patient Zero, or whatever the hell they're calling it. But then again, I like Nathan no matter how deeply in denial he's going to be next week. I would be perfectly contented if it turned out to be All About Nathan (and Peter, because I like my angst-filled relationships between brothers) (and Hiro, who's AWESOME) (and Mohinder, who's a great big pile of sexOMG).

Speaking of Hiro, I just ... I can't even begin to express how much I love Hiro. Seriously, guys? Right now, after one episode, he's pretty much on my favorite characters on TV right along with the Winchesters, Jim and Pam, and Veronica Mars, Logan Echolls and Dick Casablancas. (Speaking of which, where the hell can I get my grubby little paws on this leaked pilot, damn it? Some of us are going to be deprived of the show on actual cable AGAIN, it seems. *sigh*)

Like I said, though, I haven't seen the revised pilot yet, so I don't know if anything I'm theorizing still holds water. Eh, I'll get to it later when I have Smirnoff and Chinese food. Which I will, damn it, because I've had an unfulfilled Chinese food craving for weeks now.

As for Studio 60, I'm not all uber-excited like everybody else is (although God knows I think Sorkin writes fabulous dialogue), but I liked that first episode and we'll see how much I like the second when I get a chance to sit down and watch my tape. I think I'll be keeping it up with it, which will probably be easier than it would be otherwise since it's after Heroes, which for whatever flaws it might have jumps up and down on my favorite TV show kinks.

I'm in Panera eating portabello and mozzarella and reading cracked birthday fic. *swoons* All I need is a hot guy to set up his laptop at the next table and I'm all set. :)

Hiro is just made of win. He's the geeky guy who really gets how awesome having superpowers is, or could be. There is no angsting there, just pure triumph. How aweseome is he?

He's THIS awesome. *extends arms all the way open* :)

I think the best thing about Hiro is the attitude, "Whee! I have powers! Now to learn how to use them!" Because you know Niki's going to be afraid of hers and Nathan's in denial and Isaac's all fucked up about his, but I like Claire and Hiro for testing their limits and seeing just what they can and can't do.

As for Heroes, have you seen the theory that Niki might be the first supervillain and not hero?

Also, the changes from the screener/pre-air/whatever that everyone saw at the beginning of the summer make everything better, I think. It's a lot tighter, and smoother-flowing at the same time.

I was going to wait, because, you know, then I have to wait two weeks for the next episode, but then there were three posts on my flist with the link and I just couldn't resist.

Apparently there's yet another version of the pilot out there somewhere, because someone commented on one of my comments, saying that she knows whether or not Pete can fly, whereas I don't (and I'm trying to stay good and not spoil myself, but dammit, I wanna knoooooow!) Me, I'm just going to be on the couch every Monday, bouncing in excitement. Dude, if we actually get to *see the apocalypse that they're supposed to prevent? HEAVEN.

Hmm. I've got a hankering for apocalypse viewing. I could always finish The Day After, which I never finished 'cuz it creeped me out. Or I could settle in for a longer run and watch The Stand. Hmm.

I know whether or not Peter can fly, too. Somebody spoiled it in the Wikipedia entry, so don't go over there if you want to stay unspoiled.

I much prefer this sort of pre-apocalypse stuff to what's going on on Jericho, frankly. And now I'm really tempted to go home and watch The Day After. :)

Ahahah, don't tell me things like that. :) I actually like it, now that I think about it.

Jericho moves a little too slowly for me. I'm going to give it a chance, though, but hopefully it'll pick up.

I think he's A villain. I have a feeling he won't be the only one we see, and I don't doubt that the choice between using their powers for good and evil isn't always going to fall on the side of good. And out of all of them, Niki feels like the most likely to lean towards evil.

I'd say Isaac is closer, but I don't think Isaac is anywhere close to evil, although I don't think he's severely troubled. I'm guessing that Isaac's prophetic abilities work just fine without the heroin, but he's going to end up tying them into his heroin use and that's where he's going to run into trouble.

Speaking of preview changes, I really liked the one re: Isaac 'cause now they haven't *cough* cut off his plot possibilities so much.

Niki used her powers in self defense. So it's 50-50 whether she goes evil. After all, everything she's doing, she's doing for her terribly cute super genius child.

From: [identity profile] drewbeartx.livejournal.com
Hmm... the more I think about it, the more I can see Niki (the current version, anyway) as a specific type of villian: vengeance/retribution-oriented. Specifically, anything that threatens her or her son will be... removed from consideration. But unless she suffers a total psychotic snap (someone kills/kidnaps her son?), I don't see her becoming an indiscriminate menance.

Date: 2006-09-26 10:51 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] paradisacorbasi.livejournal.com
I'm inclined to agree. The powers seem to be connected to a separate personality.

And that seems only to be strong enough to take over when she's threatened/her child is.

Supervillian or antihero.

She's going to have some major issues.

Here's a theory: She's just nuts. Her kid is the one with the power - super intelligence.

Speaking of which; if you regenerated, wouldn't you be smarter just by virtue of you don't lose brain cells your entire life like everyone else does?

Every Trek reference had me going "ZOMG!" and then the X-Men (though a friend insists he got the Kitty Pryde reference wrong) and it's all so *AWESOME* Much much love for this guy.

and Niki/Nathan? Beyond awesome. It would be beyond awesome and the idea of him being Patient Zero? Fantastic beyond the telling.

It's referencing one of the better "classic" X-Men arcs called "Days of Future Past" in which an adult Kitty Pryde travels back in time from a Terrible Future (TM) and takes over her teenaged self's body in order to warn the X-Men about what's going to happen.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, may be the longest run-on sentence I've ever written.

Re: the X-Men reference.

From: [identity profile] paradisacorbasi.livejournal.com
X-Men: Days of Future Past [first incarnation]: Kitty Pryde's mind is projected back into the past by Rachel Summers in order to prevent the assassination of Sen. Kelly. So you have this womanchild walking around, 13 year old Kitty's body with 50 year old Kitty's mind.

Technically, Kitty time-traveled, using her own body as the vessel.

He was off by two issues. Uncanny X-Men #141 was the first DOFP episode.

I heart Hiro SO MUCH. And I think the reason most of us do is because HE IS US. He's a nerd who loves TV and comic books and if any one of us discovered we could manipulate the space-time continuum, we'd be completely out of our minds estatic and trying to convince our friends we can actually do it - Just like Hiro.

And I can already tell that Hiro, and probably Claire will be my favorite people in the show just for being WILLING to try their powers out - even if Hiro scores many more points for being so freakin happy about it.
Peter was also willing to try, but he loses points for the major inferiority complex. Don't get me wrong, I look forward to the brother angst, but I think I'll be liking the drama with them more than the actual characters.

Oh, and Mohinder is made of sex. Oh yes.

Date: 2006-09-26 07:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] drewbeartx.livejournal.com
The thing is, I don't think that Claire was trying her powers out so much as trying to find a breaking point. Some limit where she could be permanently hurt again, so she could try to reclaim some sense of being normal again. "Sure, I heal really, really quickly, but I can still get hurt and die!"

...Oh crap, that just occured to me. CAN Claire be killed? Or is Cheerleader Wolverine effectively immortal?

Date: 2006-09-26 07:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
I agree. Poor kid's got to be terrified even more than when she's running into a burning train wreck about what the hell she is. After all, she doesn't know who her birth parents are and so far she hasn't found anything that can permanently damage her body. Plus, she doesn't seem to be picking up on pain anymore. I'd be trying to feel it again, too, if I were in the same situation.

Date: 2006-09-26 08:16 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] drewbeartx.livejournal.com
Plus, she doesn't seem to be picking up on pain anymore.

Oh, I think she can still feel pain. After all, her nervous system must be regenerating as rapidly as the rest of her, including the pain receptors. I just think that she's learned to work through the pain.

In fact, I bet that "Attempt Number One" was her trying to slit her wrists, either in a suicide attempt or because she's a "cutter". If it's the latter, maybe she first noticed that her scars had faded.

The Nuke Painting? I need to rewatch, 'cause I can't remember that. Do you mean the floor painting? 'Cause miy sister's BF said, "nuclear war!" and I said, "no, look, monster on the other side." When he points and says "We have to stop it" at the end - the painting he points at shows New York with a big mushroom cloud.

I'm not sure she felt a lot of pain, though. She didn't even notice when she still had ribs poking through her skin.

And I'm not sure about the face she made. It might have been pain, and it might have been, "Oops." You know, Mom's right there, I just stuck my hand down a garbage disposal, this is going to be a bitch to explain.

Have you seen the (vaguely spoilery) photo gallery at 9thwonders.com? There is a postage stamp of what I suspect is a monster-villian -- just a stamp and a name, but it's the same thing that we saw on the floor cityscape before the last scene. With the artist. Whose name is one of two that I can't remember. Same monster, I'm just saying.

I turned my TV on for the first time in over a year to watch Heroes.

I don't think we've been introduced to patient zero yet. I think he/she would have to be older. I don't know if there IS a patient Zero. PZ would be the source of the mutation. We can see that Hiro (at the very least) is not a relative of any of the others; even if they are all related (even if it was 5 generations ago). A normal mutation starts with an individual and spreads through their offspring. We've no reason to believe Hiro is not full blooded Japanese. Since Hiro thus doesn't share any ancestors with any of the others (for a minimum of 80 or so generations - more than long enough for a successful mutation to become widespread in a species, not just emerging) there has to be an alternate mechanism at work. Perhaps some sort of parallel evolution? It would explain all of the Star Trek references - that's where the idea got widespread notice. Perhaps some sort of experiment or environmental nudging? We (hopefully - provided the series doesn't pull a Firefly on us) will find out eventually.

I think it more likely that there's been some sort of environmental nudge (nuclear explosions, pollution, or something) that has started them evolving in different directions. For every successful mutation in nature; there are scores that die out. Environmental change sparks mutation.

Hiro rocks hard core. That's SO what I'd be like if I found out I had super powers.

Claire is an interesting character too. She's going to be full of angst and trying to figure out who/what she is. I wouldn't be surprised if she'd been stolen from her parents.

Personally, I'm betting Peter can fly. I don't see Nathan going into denial as much as wanting to cover it up.

I can't remember the artist's name - but I could really do without him. He's a defeatist and whiny boy. I'm also adverse to heroin adicts as primary characters. "Wah! I'm back on smack and you didn't even notice! I'm going to try the way of quitting that's least likely to succeed, OD, and paint the apocalypse! Maybe then you'll notice!"
