The Fandom Meme ...

jenboo. I don't want to go to work, either, sweetie. I feel your pain. :)
1. What was the very first fandom you got involved in?
Highlander: The Series, in '96. Was into it from the beginning, but it wasn't until second year of college that my friend Aisha got me hooked on the Internet. *sigh* And the addiction continues ...
2. What is the most recent fandom to catch your interest?
I just came back to X-Men (mostly movieverse) after a looooong hiatus since the first movie came out. I've said it before and I'll say it again -- me's a fickle bastisch, me is.
3. Fandom you've stayed loyal to the longest?
Buffy/Angel, definitely. Joss had me from day one, but the last two seasons of Buffy ran me so ragged with Marti Noxon and her Mary-Sue-dom that I didn't watch much, or to be honest hardly any, of seasons six or seven. I can say, however, that now that they've gotten rid of Connor (hopefully forever), I should be back on my Angel jones come next season. (As long as that they don't drag that tired soulmate tripe over there, too.)
4. Fandom(s) you're most passionate about?
Buffy. Hooked since day one and just got more and more pissed the closer to the end they got. An easy way to get me to start ranting is to give me a Buffy-related topic from any season since Riley and the Initiative. But first, make sure your clothes are flame-retardent and you know where all the fire exits are.
5. Fandom(s) you wish you could get into, but can't?
Harry Potter. I'm a nitpicking fool, but I just feel inadequate looking at the little details that go into it. At least with X-Men movieverse, I've got a lot more leeway.
6. Fandoms you're curious about, but never had the chance to get into?
The Shield. Hell, I don't even know if there is much of a fandom, but I love the show so much my hands itch to write something for it. The problem lies in the scheduling -- I've only been able to see Season one, unfortunately.
7. Fandom that's been the most fun to be involved in?
Highlander was fun when I started because it was filled with some great fans, was easy to maneuver, and the show wasn't hard to miss, considering it played about a million times in syndication. But X-Men movieverse is great because I never have to be totally serious. I'm just there to have a good time ...
8. Fandom that's been the least fun to be involved in?
... whereas being a Buffy fan is work. Intense mental struggle that should come with a warning label and your own personal flamethrower. Fun in its own way, but still, it had its downsides. Being a S/B 'shipper alone was just asking for a shower of hammers to rain upon my head. God forbid I should be disgusted by the lack of imagination it takes to write "soulmates" and not really care about the relationship of two characters I know will go own "forevah!!!" Ick. (Note: Not all B/A 'shippers are insane. But some of them have some serious issues. I worry.)
9. Fandom you're ashamed to admit you were involved in?
For about ten minutes, I was in the Tomorrow People fandom. The lame one. The one that was on Nickelodeon with that redheaded guy who took the bomb to the homeworld in "Battlefield Earth." I still like the mythology from that show, just ... blech. Could it have been made with less of a budget? I got the impression after a while that every episode was made with whatever change the cast and crew could dig out from underneath their car seats.
10. Are you looking for a new fandom, or actively avoiding getting sucked into something new?
Not avoiding, not actively looking. I've got my eye open just in case there's a new show I like (I'm going to watch "Dead Like Me" on Showtime tomorrow to see if that's worth anything), but it's not like I'm desperately looking for new material. Got my own original characters to worry about, after all.
11. Are there any fandoms that just don't do it for you at all?
Anime stuff confuses the hell out of me. The last two movies have turned me off ever even thinking about reading Star Wars fic. And Star Trek ... well, can't say as I like it, but the mstings of the Marissa Picard stories are always worth it. :)
12. What fandoms do you think you will probably get into at some point in the future?
Possibly Lord of the Rings, but I'd definitely need to read up on it a bit more.
13. If I could make a movie (or another movie) out of any of my fandoms, what would it be like and who would it star?
I don't think I'd lean toward a movie so much as making a TV show about being a student at Xavier's. A weekly fix of mutants ... mmm. It'd be sort of like Buffy ... a little comedy, a little drama, a little sci-fi. And it'd have all of the students who were in the movies, along with maybe one or two more. (You know, dye my hair back to blond and I could make a pretty good Tabitha ... why not? It's my TV show, I'll cast whatever awful actors -- including me -- that I want.)
14. What squicks you to the point that it would keep you from reading a story?
Mary Sues. Bad grammar and spelling. And two words -- Soul. Mates.
