They can't pass the car's inspection without a ton of body work and a bunch of other stuff.

So, it's off to the credit union or the bank for a used car loan with me, I guess. *sigh*

This is one of those times where my parents knowing everyone and this being a small town helps, because my parents' friend the car dealer is looking for a used car for me now and I'm going to take a shower before running over to the bank to talk to the mom of a guy I went to high school with about a loan. Here's hoping. *crosses fingers*

Also, I don't look like my icon yet, so that's a good sign.

can you get trade in value at all on the old HunkOJunk? we had to practically push our old car to the dealership and still got some trade value for it.

Here's hoping. It probably wouldn't be much, but a hundred bucks is still a hundred bucks, you know what I mean?

I had a two door 1994 Geo Metro hatchback. One of the cylinders cracked, and it would have cost well over a grand to fix/replace. SO I donated it to goodwill. Goodwill sold it for $700. that's...more than I paid for the car.

So I'm not trying to get your hopes too far up, but you never know! Fingers crossed.

when you go to talk to a dealer, see what the difference is between trading in the car as is and trading it in for parts (sometimes you can get more money if it's parted out).

*crosses toes*

word on that. unless your cars are as bad as mine usually are before i finally part with them. i've got an 83 escort down at the shop right now with an obscure electrical problem, and -$300 in the bank. But! i start working tonight, so that's finally that problem solved- INCOME! yay!

My older sister had a 72 Datsun 510, that she let my little sister borrow. Bimbo drove that car into the ground in less than 6 months (my older sister had had that car for years and it was in great shape). She got 1K for it as parts.

*cackles* the guy who bought it from her figured out how to fix it up and kept it. She still got a deal though, she'd have gotten less for it if she hadn't sold it the way she did.

-brags- my sister had a 72 datsun b210 that she drove for years round the bay area, then up the alcan to anchorage, then around anchorage for another 5 or 6 years, sold to some guy who drove it for years, who sold it 'for parts' to another guy who drove it for years, and who just retired 'the appaloosa' (for its spectacular paint-job post some side-swiping incident) last year, finally, for parts. . .

*howls* I freaked for a moment when you said that first part. My older sister drove that sucker around the bay area and to Oregon and back a couple of times.

Her's was red though and she sold it *thinks and counts back a LOT* wow, almost 20 years ago.
