"Dexter" ...
Dec. 12th, 2006 03:57 pmOh, my God, this show.
HOMG DEB'S ON THE BOAT WITH RUDY! *SPAZZ*
And okay, I kinda saw it coming that he'd take her out for dumping purposes when Dexter said that thing about calling him when she came up for air, which this show likes the snarky morbid humor ... heh, but YAY! And I love the fact that Rudy was like, "You didn't figure out that I was the Ice Truck Killer? Mwahahahaha!" right before he choked her. (Even though I did soften towards her a little when they were at the Santa's workshop crime scene and she reached out when Dexter was crouched in front of her and fixed a lock of his hair. That was a cute little detail.) And the ring! Okay, that was so creepy even I was like, "EWW, EWW, EWW!", which says a lot considering I really want to make a Christmastime icon out of the body parts wrapped up under the Christmas tree.
I pretty much spent the last fifteen minutes of the episode after Angel made that crack about giving his attacker a split lip shrieking in my apartment. Useless, I tell you. USE. LESS.
I love every character on this show. I love Dexter and Doakes and Angel and Masuko and Rudy and LaGuerta and the slimy police chief and yes, even Deb, even though she's irritated me this entire season for not noticing she's screwing a serial killer and related to one and WHATEVER, because as soon as this season is over I'm totally writing fic where heartbroken Deb drinks and fucks her way through Miami because you know that is so how she'd cope.
And Rita. Holy crap, have I mentioned how much I love Rita? Julie Benz just totally OWNS me in that role, because in a show with two serial killers having this silent artistic murderous competition Rita and her family dramas keep me just as intrigued as the crime stuff does. I just love the fact that being with Dexter (who is probably the last person in the world you'd think someone should date) is making her a stronger person, because he's saying all these things that might not be normal but are exactly what she needs to hear. And then she takes them and actually does something with them, like when she took the kids to jail to see Paul after Dexter said at the playground that she wasn't protecting the kids, she was protecting Paul. Just, YES.
Also, I knew 103 had to be October 3 AND the date of Dexter's mother's murder.
I really need to take that shot of Rudy arranging the severed body parts in his refrigerated room and make it into an icon with the caption, "Deck the halls with parts of bodies." Seriously ... *snickers*

Date: 2006-12-12 09:20 pm (UTC)And Dexter realizing that his sister was with Rudy? omg.
The secondary characters in this series are some of the most well-developed that I've ever seen. I was very worried about poor Angel.
Julie Benz... she's phenomenal. The scene right before she lets her kids into see her ex was just... damn.
Deb taking a piece of the fake snow from Dexter's hair was cute.
1 episode left! GAH!
I know the show got picked up for another season, any idea when that will be?

Date: 2006-12-12 09:27 pm (UTC)I know Dexter talks all the time about how he doesn't have any feelings or about how he stifles them, but the way he's freaking out over Deb at the end is just awesome. He's terrified, and it carries over so that YOU'RE terrified because of it, because he doesn't do that so now that he is having such strong emotions it hits HARD.
God, I love the secondary characters on this show. I currently have this soft spot for Masuko -- I loved that he was completely on the job at Angel's crime scene but that Deb was so happy he was back to normal at the Santa's workshop scene when he made that porny crack to her. Heh. He's awesome.
I'm not sure when the next season will be, but I cannot WAIT. And next week! GYAH! C'mon, show, hurry up and get here! *trembles*

Date: 2006-12-13 03:01 am (UTC)He's so absorbed in wishing he was normal, so consumed by wishing he had normal emotions, that he doesn't realize he already does have emotions and is in some ways, perfectly normal.
When he realized the Ice Truck Killer was Rudy? And he realized Deb was with him? You saw something very much akin to panic in Dexter's eyes, his movements. He sounded mostly like himself, but his voice had an edge to it.

Date: 2006-12-13 09:16 pm (UTC)And I love, love, love that when Dex realizes his perfect little world is crumbling because *Rudy's* the serial killer, and Rudy has *his sister*, he looks all distressed in a way he hasn't been since he was set up for killing the wife of the human traffiker.
Gah. I really hope that they don't kill Deb, but I kind of think that they will.

Date: 2007-01-08 10:28 pm (UTC)This is a fantastic show, i'n't it?
And I love the fact that Rudy was like, "You didn't figure out that I was the Ice Truck Killer? Mwahahahaha!" right before he choked her.
I loved that so much because as soon as the wrapped came out, I knew Deb would recognize it, and I knew Rudy would say something about it, and Deb would be all, "We never told anyone!" and we've seen that scenario SO MANY TIMES, you know? And I thought this show was better than that. So I loved that Rudy did it on purpose and rubbed it in her face. Such an awesome subversion of the cliché.

Yeah, I was surprised at that myself. I don't know how it worked, but you're right, somehow, that drama was just as compelling. Because it was important to Dexter, not just his cover, but to Dexter. Who doesn't realize that he's a person.
