Things that are not awesome:

-- People riding motorcycles who both insist on not wearing a helmet and not turning on their headlight at night. Great job, moron. I was half-tempted to stop suddenly in front of the shopping center where the cops hang out just to see how fucked you'd be after the accident.

-- Apparently being the only person in Northeastern Pennsylvania who knows that those dotted lines and gigantic STOPs painted on the grocery store parking lot mean something.

-- Having to explain twice in one night that sudoku doesn't involve math, has never involved math, will not suddenly decide to require math skills if you start attempting to do a puzzle, and is entirely a LOGIC puzzle. Seriously, annoying people at work. It could be numbers, letters, symbols, or different kinds of cheese in those boxes and it would STILL involve no math.

-- Working with someone who isn't really a mean sexist bigot but thinks it's hilaaaarious to act like one.

-- Forgetting your cell phone is in your purse and having to turn it into the bosses AGAIN. *sigh*

Things that are awesome:

-- Fifty bucks suddenly showing up in my mailbox from relatives for Christmas. ohthankgod

-- Getting the adorable non-cursing girl at work to read slash. Specifically, slash with handjobs and rimming. And having her request I bring in more tomorrow. Heeeee. Okay, you asked for it. *snickers*

There should totally be cheese sudoku. Then I could be addicted to that, too.

My favorite thing about sudoku is the fact that my dad the "you'd be able to do this if you just APPLIED yourself" math whiz finds it impossible. :P He's getting a book of puzzles for xmas....

it took me a really long time to wrap my head around it not actually involving math, because, really, I see numbers and I want to make them either *do* or *mean* something.

Sad, really. I can't just leave the little numbers alone.

Heh. I like going to Jigsawdoku and changing it from numbers to symbols or letters. I love sudoku but I'm not a big fan of numbers, either, and symbols make it harder because you can't remember what to put where because of numerical or alphabetical order.

You do gradually get used to the symbols, though. It never becomes quite as easy as numbers, but very close, because the symbols eventually ingrain themselves in your brain. To really make it difficult, they'd have to have a large set of symbols, with nine chosen at random each game. But maybe that's too evil.

You know, I had finally gotten over my sushi sudoku addiction, and then you went and mentioned jigsaw sudoku. Curses!

You left out knitting/crocheting. Seriously. I think I have the afghan pattern around here somewhere even though it kinda scares me. I don't play soduko, but I'm tempted to try out that damn pattern.

ooooo! If you find it (and it's crochet - I don't have the coordination for knitting), I'd love to see the pattern.

I found this: Sudoku Knitting (http://obsessiondujour.typepad.com/obsessions/sudoku_knitting/index.html) Or try this one (http://pixelknits.blogspot.com/2006/04/sudoku-knitting.html)

You could adapt it to crochet by matching your square sizes to her dimensions. I won't totally geek out here by recommending things. I promise (although it is my job! *G*). I will give you this hint: Add 30 to 50% in yardage to any either link mentions (that's how much more crocheting eats up)

I think the actual pattern was in last month's issue of Vogue Knitting's Knit 1. I can't find my copy unfortunately.

Thanks for the links. Once my hands recover from all my last minute holiday crochet, I might have to try one. (the first link, in particular, appeals to my uber-geekiness). And, hey! Any excuse to go buy nifty yarns, right?

OMG, but you need to be able to count to nine!

You don't even need that, if you do what I do sometimes and go to Jigsawdoku and change it from numbers to symbols. :)

You still need to be able to count to as many as there are symbols. Or, you know, hold nine symbols in your head so you can apply eliminative logic to them. I think that counts as counting.

yes! for the hard-of-thinking, send them here
http://www.jigsawdoku.com/
and toggle between numbers and symbols. Also helps (for kids) with the concept that you can't use any of them more than once.

Several of my family member are smart but mathallergic, to the point that they couldn't even think about it until the numbers were taken away :(

I think I might be persuaded to play SuDoKu if it involved different kinds of cheese.

(Not because I'm math-phobic. You sort of can't be, in my profession. I haven't started SuDoKu because I really, really, really, truly don't need another hobby unless the Earth's rotation slows.)

Why do they get your phone?

From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
We're not supposed to have cell phones in the building due to security reasons. Theoretically I could have just hid it in my purse when I left, but I didn't want to take the chance they'd end up finding my phone anyway AND I'd get in trouble. I'm just going to try a little harder than I did the last time I had to hand in a cell phone and didn't get it back for weeks.

how dumb could you possibly be to not wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle? the guy i'm dating now was on his bike a couple of years ago when he got hit by some 17 year old in a jaguar and if it wasn't for the helmet...

there should be a video game rule where, if you hit someone who is acting exceptionally dumb (no headlights, crossing between cars), you get bonus points and get to keep going.

A couple of years ago, Pennsylvania said it was okay to ride around on a motorcycle without a helmet, and it was like all of the idiots came out to roost. On the plus side, the people with common sense still wear their helmets. On the down side, now you can tell who's too stupid to live.

So Pennsylvania is a fan of Darwin. Cool. I stand by my belief however, that if you hit one of those retards, you shouldn't be responsible for any injuries caused by their stupidity.
