Yuletide recs, part one

Well, I think I've killed ... what, five hours now ... hanging out on the Yuletide site reading through stories starting from the bottom of the fandom list just to be contrary. Heh.
Highways and Bridges (Without a Trace, Martin/Danny) -- Danny, Martin, and 36 hours in the search for a missing girl. I don't watch the show religiously, but I do catch the reruns enough to recognize a firm grasp of the feel and weight of the show and the characters therein and this really feels like something in an average episode that we never got to see.
See No Evil (The Village, Ivy/Lucius) -- Ivy in puzzle pieces. I'm iffy about the execution of the movie itself but I adore this story, particularly because it focuses on Ivy, whom I loved to itty bitty pieces. It's a gorgeous portrait of Ivy and the village, of the highs and lows of her life, of the decisions she has to make following the events of the movie.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, Happy Valentine's Day, a Fantastic Fourth, and a Rockin' Cinco de Mayo, Betty Suarez! (Ugly Betty, Betty/Daniel) -- Five times Daniel Meade hasn't been to Betty's house. (Yet.) You know, it's stuff like this that reminds me I really need to start watching Ugly Betty, especially considering how much I've loved what I've gotten to see. And while I do love the friendship between Daniel and Betty bunches and bunches and would be perfectly happy if they never hooked up, there is this tiny part of me that thinks that the two of them would make an adorable couple. Aw, Daniel, all not knowing how to behave around Ignacio and wanting to be all over Betty and making out with her on Beauty and the Beast sheets. *cuddles him*
A year in the life (or, seven times Betty and Daniel showed each other they cared) (Ugly Betty, Betty and Daniel) -- Betty and Daniel, through the year. D'awww. Now this is what I like most about them. :)
The Importance of Bearing Cocoa (The Tick, Tick and Arthur, hints of slashy stuff) -- "I feared that fishface had taken you from me forever! But like Geppetto, you survived the belly of the whale." *splorflechokes* I was all being amused and feeling sorry for Arthur (you know, like you do), and then that last line struck me dead. Heeee.
On our finger the ring awakes (Superman Returns, Lois/Richard) -- Lois never left a decision unmade. If there's one thing I loved about Superman Returns (although I did like a great deal of it) it was how the love triangle was played out, as something between three mature adults all trying to do the right thing with either too much information at hand or not enough. And even if the ones who did need to know more were informed of what they hadn't been told or found out just yet, they'd still be trying to do the right thing. They're all good people, and they all want what's best for Jason, and it's hard. I do have a soft spot for stories about how Lois reacted in the months following Superman's disappearance, with him gone and dealing with being a mom and meeting Richard, so this hit a lot of my kinks.
Ebb and Flow (Stephen King's It, Ben/Beverly) -- With every mile, more memories of the ordeal in Derry faded away, but neither Ben nor Beverly noticed. They were too busy filling in the spaces between then and now. (Warning for memory of attempted rape) Oh, maaaan. How much do I love that there is It fic this year? And that it's Ben/Bev fic? And that it's fabulous and hot and makes me all kerflaily?
Exercises in Latitudinal Thinking (Sneakers) -- How the members of Martin's team come together, and what happens following the course of the movie. Heh. Just as smart and witty as the movie was, and a gentle reminder to myself that next year I'm definitely asking for Carl/Mary fic.
Learning (Sky High, Warren/Will) -- Life would be easier if it was multiple choice. I could argue that summary, but let's not even get into that right now. ;) I'm not a huge Warren/Will shipper, but it helps that there are some awesome writers doing the ship justice. This particular story is great for doing right by the characters, especially Warren.
Five Things Maggie Simpson Never Said (The Simpsons, Maggie) -- Zombies, lesbians, omgwtfpolarbear, mortal enemies, mobsters: five futures that never happened in Springfield. Featuring Maggie Simpson in a speaking role! For all that Maggie is eternally an infant, she does still have a definite personality that this fic totally hits on, and it's equally funny, smart and poignant.
Victory from Defeat (Shaun of the Dead, Shaun, Ed, and Liz) -- A victory snatched from what looked like defeat. Liz, Shaun and Ed, post-movie. Trisha Goddard makes a special appearance. *snickers* I don't need much. I just need Shaun and Ed to play video games together all the time. :)
My Holiday Musical (Scrubs, JD, Tuck, Carla, Elliot, etc.) -- Okay, I'm still catching up on reruns on the Comedy Central, but this is a real episode, right? Somebody just posted a transcript of a real episode and ... I mean, it feels like a real episode, and if this is not an actual episode, then someone out there should be writing for the show and it's criminal that they don't.
Not Quite A Success Story (Say Anything ..., Diane/Lloyd) -- Diana and Lloyd, 15 years after the happy ending. Because it isn't always a happily-ever-after and sometimes it kind of is even if it doesn't look like it at the time. Bittersweet and brilliant.
There were a few Sahara recs I didn't get to read through just yet, but one of them looks really long and if I read that one I'll have to read the other two and ... well, they can wait. I want to work on getting my stupid MP3 player to work right, so I'm stepping away from the fics for a while.
EDIT: I know it's the first day and all, but I'm still a little thrown that the stocking stuffers I threw together at the last minute on four Smirnoffs are getting better reception than the longer fics I worked really hard on while sober. HEE.
Did I mention that my family continues to not believe me when I tell them I don't get hangovers? Hey, I've got to make up for my lack of tolerance somehow, and if it's sleeping like a baby and waking up perfectly fine after getting drunk are my present then I'll sooooo take it. :)
