Tribbles -- now in bite size! *giggles*

One of the girls I work with is getting sued for six thousand dollars by her landlord for breaking her lease and gave me the contract to look over to see if I could find a loophole. I suppose "too naive to have known not to have signed this thing in the first place" doesn't really count as a loophole, right?

My car is getting inspected today FINALLY. I brought it in at eleven and haven't gotten a phone call yet, so I take that as a good sign.

It was freezing out last night, which I know because coming home from work I got to hear all about the schools that were closed because it was ridiculously cold out. I also know it because I spent my one-in-the-morning lunch break racing between my car and the front door of my job whining as I bounded away from the frostbite. Heh.

She just tried to break the lease early. Seriously, this thing is ridiculous. It basically says she can't leave the apartment until November under ANY circumstance unless she sends the landlord a written request to move at least two months earlier. So she can write him a letter now telling him she wants to leave, but she can't actually DO it for another nine months. And she's screwed herself a little more, too, because she said her boyfriend's been staying there and THAT'S a breach of the contract, too. *sigh*

My first instinct if I'd had to sign a lease for this apartment would have been to have my dad to look it over first to make sure I knew what I was getting into, but I get the impression she just signed on the dotted line without even reading it.

UGH My God, that's an INSANE lease! I get really jittery about leases and so I read every single last DOT on every page. And the one we had to sign was insane. Something like 11 pages of tiny print *sighs*

Man that REALLY sucks for your friend! I hope she can figure something out.

The thing is, she might have had a case if she'd:

a.) Informed him the neighbors who were supposed to be watching the place for her were sneaking up to her back door and listening to her all the time, because now it'll just sound like she's making it up.

b.) Made more of a fuss about repairs he was supposed to do when she moved in, since he STILL haven't done them.

I mean, the guy's done stuff wrong, but at the same time she told me that the people taking care of the apartment have been spying on her when her boyfriend leaves, meaning they know he's been staying there long enough to breach the lease, which they can claim they know from simple observation rather than sneaking up to her kitchen door from the basement and listening.

*headdesk*

Failure to make repairs can be considered a constructive eviction.
My friend's landlord told her they couldn't move out until the first year of the lease was up, but they're moving out now because they sent a letter showing that the law they were going by was incorrect. Have your co-worker check things out with the state laws, because the policy is usually that you can break the lease with notice.
As for the boyfriend thing, she's kind of in trouble with that, but do they have any evidence except for their own accounts?

How cold would that be in degrees? When I was a kid the rule was that the schools closed if it dropped under -30°C (that's about -22°F) during the day.

It was zero degrees Fahrenheit when I left work this morning, although I'm guessing the wind chill factor didn't do much for that number. Personally I think everybody in this area has gone a little soft this year -- the other day we got a whole three inches of snow, not exactly a winter blizzard around here but probably about the most snow at one time we've seen all season, and people were driving like they'd get stranded in the snow for days and have to eat their passengers.

Plenty cold enough to be uncomfortable, anyway.

OMG, so CUTE!
It's like 'minature' and 'toy' or 'toy' and 'teacup' =]

And leases... can't wait 'til I don't have one over my head. I'm so sad for the girl.

And cold.. yeah... 'cold' here. Listen to the natives complain "OOOOhhh, its 38F! Brrr!!"
Silly people. They wouldn't know cold if it (frost)bit them in the ass.

AWWWW They're so cute! *laughs* No, never want one. I'm still mad at the one my second-grade teacher had. That little shit chewed a hole in my favorite sweater!

So that's what chinchillas look like! Remarkably cute, and YES, that's what I always thought tribbles should look like (as opposed to the inanimate toupee's they resemble in the actual ST: TOS show. /is geek) and so conveniently apartment sized :) Do they have the run of your place?
