In college I lived across the hall from this girl named Aisha who got a little goofy when she was on a sugar high. So this one weekend when everybody was just kind of hanging around the dorm with their doors open and she'd obviously had way too many Pixie Stix, she was walking from door to door giggling hysterically and saying, "And you're the troll king and you're the troll queen --" And then she walked by my door and said, "And you're the troll princess."

To this day I have nooooo freaking clue what she was talking about. Heh.

However the next day she decided that since I had never really been on the internet before she was dragging me off to the computer lab to show me how to get on it, and when I had to sign up for a Hotmail account I picked "trollprincess" as a username because it made her laugh.

Which means I've had that username for something like eleven years.

... no, that doesn't make me feel old at ALL.

::coughs:: You think *you* feel old? I've had my *husband* for 11 years! And we've used "fishfolk" for our joint e-mail address for about 12 years.

I mean, 11 years ago, I was getting my master's degree...

I don't know about that; I'd say a username from the future is fairly impressive.

*laughs* I've had my user name for my whole life. It's my first name (okay, nickname), my middle initial and my last name.

Boring, yes.

Same here. First name, middle name.

Once upon a time, I *did* have a more fanciful Internet handle, but when I broke up with my first boyfriend, I thought it was wise to discontinue using it because it (and the avatar I created) were based on characters he'd created for his comics series/multimedia empire.

He's now in the Navy, doing stuff with planes. I've written and published porn in comics form. Funny how life can change things in 7 years.

I love hearing how people have picked up their nicknames. It's actually kind of neat, because if they can tell you it's sort of a neat little window into their world.

(Incidentally, I've had mine since about 1997-8 when I got a laser pointer from a friend and started going to rock shows. the '69 is a punk think and given that I write porn, I'm not really complaining about it. But it is a little funny to have on resumes.)

I've had this username since....1990, when I used a friend's 300-baud modem to log onto this thing called a "BBS". And the rest, as they say, is history. ::is old fart::

Hi, my username is very young (less than a year) unlike me LOL
The story is very weird, it comes from a pair of Puma's sport shoes with the famous logo. Friends of mine said that since I was SO speed a person, it made sense that I wore such shoes and 93 is the zip code of my area! Bye :D

I didn't start using this name until I joined LJ because the username I normally use was taken.

I picked it because I was in a weird period where I kept saying it to people.

I'm a little odd as far as noticing things go. I walked into my apartment one day and immediately noticed someone (maintenance) had been in there; not because they swapped the brown air conditioner for a white one, left a large maintenance log on my desk, and left a huge mess on my beige rug, but because the angle the vertical blinds was different.

If you pick a subject; I have a half dozen useless facts about it tucked away in my head. I'm considered a walking database at the office. I can do more math in my head than most people. Yet, one year, I didn't realize it was my birthday until someone wished me a happy one and I couldn't give you the details of what I did 3 weekends ago without someone jogging my memory first.

So, yeah, sometimes, it is a little scary being me.

I got mine because I created a demon in Biology. I was bored and we were doing this experiment with a bright blue enzyme with a name similar to Astroth. I'd been reading the Cliver Barker story "The Yattering and Jack" under the desk when I suddenly saw this character standing in front of the window, large as life. This happens a fair amount. I just go with it. I figured I didn't want a Muse, I'd have a demon, because it was good enough for Rudyard Kipling.

The knot part came about years later on an Angel mailing list, when I joked that Astroth had a dick long enough to tie knots in. Therefore, Astrothsknot.

What's that Nurse? My medication?

When I first started this whole "internet" thing about twelve years ago, my name was PenguinX. Cuz I liked penguins, and because I was a tweener in the early 90's that thought X equalled radical.

About that time I saw Akira for the first time. Really enjoyed it. My senior year of HS I was in a Japanese class. When it came time to choose your Japanese name (you know, like pretty much every other foreign language class in high school you went by a different name than in real life). I chose Kaneda, the red leather jacket wearing hero from Akira. Because he was awesome.

So as the months went by, I slowly started started going into chatrooms sometimes as PenguinX and sometime as Kaneda. Then I decided to finally merge up, and KanedaX was born.

So, yeah, we're looking at 10 years or so for my name.

I was first called Ziggy sometime in highschool because my last name was Stelzig. When I would sign on places I would use Ziggy if I could get it. Sometimes it was already taken, and sometimes the site would require 6 or more characters. My husband is a comic geek and is a big fan of the Hellboy comic. He thought it would be just a little too geeky to go by hellboy online so he started using Hellbob because he thinks that Bob is just a funny name.
When I got my LJ back in 2002 I couldn't get the name Ziggy, as usual, so I had to come up with something new. In a flash of inspiration I decided that If Ziggy was based on my maiden name and I'm married to Hellbob then my married online name must be HellZiggy!
That was just just over 4 years ago and now I answer to HellZiggy just as readily as my real name.

I collect unicorns (figurines, stuffed plushies, clocks, etc). At last count, I had over 1000. No, not kidding. :) And since I live in Las Vegas... The 25 was just a number picked at random.
