Oh, sweetie, I know why you did this and I know why Jared loves you, but if I have to listen to one more overly pretty highly toned girl talk about how the Pussycat Dolls are all about female empowerment and individuality I'm going to scream.

Or, you know, bark out another sarcastic "HA!" loud enough to annoy the neighbor.

See, until all the hype about that tv show (and no I will not watch it - bleargh), I didn't even know they were such a big deal. I thought it was some gimmick they showed on an episode of Las Vegas a season or two ago.

Frankly, I'll stick with the Suicide Girls. They're more fun

Only ex-members are allowed to talk about it; but sgirls has some accounts of what's happened, as well as lithiumpicnic, who's a fairly renowned ex photographer for the Girls who was recently fired and sued by them.

Basically, SG owns their models -- at this point, they own their personality, photographs, sets, voice, name, even their tattoos and can sue them for copyright infringement if they model for other sites. They have also sold their sets to hardcore porn sites for use in advertising, and also to other softcore alt sites (many of which found the quality to be under their usual standards) without the notification of the girls. When a model attempted to gain control by co-licensing these photos, they removed these photos from the deal.

Additionally, they have been accused of misogynistic treatment of their big name models on several occasions, and one of their photographers often had her sets rejected because they did not show enough nudity.

They don't pay for business expenses for staff photographers, either, and they hold back on payments on already-delivered sets, something that very few other companies would even consider. People have discussed that the quality of treatment for models and photographers would have considerably improved had Playboy bought them out as it was considering.

They've sued photographers for working with models on other sites, and any other altporn site is at risk for being attacked for "unfair competition"...even sites that do things that until recently Suicide Girls was explicitly banning (for instance, SG banned bdsm until the middle of their current litigation with Lithium Picnic).

You know, I would have supported them on the empowerment...back when they were helping burlesque get big again, making eroticism mean something other than "porn".

....now, they're just sell outs. And I don't use that word very often, but they've morphed into an out of tune cliche poplet group solely using their connections.

Maybe making it in a man-powered biz on the strength of who you know IS woman power. That's fine. But don't choose a path because it makes you more money and pretend it's the same thing you were doing when you helped reinvent a movement.
