I'm having a discussion over on copperbadge's journal about whether or not Peter's prophetic dreams came from Charles Deveaux (Simone's dad). We can't remember.
I'm pretty certain they came from his mother. All the hints she's been dropping ("I knew long before you" and the like) just scream She's One Of Them! ^-^
Knowing now that Linderman is one makes me think that's why Patrelli's father did business with him, too.
I don't know ... I was thinking that MAYBE they came from Simone's dad, but then I was thinking about Peter saying he dreamed about Nathan getting into his accident and did he even KNOW Mr. Deveaux then?
It would make sense that that's why Linderman and Mr. Petrelli had dealings, too. And if Papa had powers as well, then no wonder Mama Petrelli knew about their powers before they did. With two parents with superpowers, of course they'd get some eventually.
I love this show because it's like a hit of my superhero kink every damn week. *flails*
I do think he got something from Deveaux. It just seems weird that Deveaux's final words (according to Simone) were that Peter would save the world, that Hiro's dad gave Claire to Bennet on Deveaux's roof, and that Deveaux's roof is the focus of so many scenes on this show.
If it's a group of older heroes working together, it's looking like (considering their connections):
-- the Petrellis -- Linderman -- Deveaux -- Hiro's dad (possibly)
Which begs the question -- how'd they all get so goddamn rich? It's pretty odd, at least to me, that we would have an earlier generation of heroes and they'd all just turn out to be fabulously wealthy by chance.
Oh, I don't doubt that Deveaux had some ability-- you're right, the number of connections to his legacy are too numerous to not think something's up-- but I'd be very surprised if the prophetic ability came from him instead of Peter's mommy dearest.
One could use the argument that he didn't know Deveaux at the time of Nathan's accident, but it's a shaky foundation. I like to think that the vision he's had right after Homecoming-- the worst one that we've seen him have-- was because he'd just spent a great deal of time unconscious in his mother's presence. ^-^
Last night when Linderman said about his fellow older heroes using their powers for personal gain, I thought of Hiro's dad and how he's now head of a major corporation. (And I'm thinking that the flashback in "Company Man" proved that he had been high up in the company that Bennett works for and Linderman runs, but perhaps he's no longer affiliated...)
You should read the online graphic novel! During the hiatus there was a 6 part run called War Buddies that explains the details of the Petrelli family and the connection to Linderman.
I think Mama can heal. It looked like she tried, he gave a little jump my sib and I thought, but died right away again thanks to the glass in his brain.
I don't know, it looked to me like she just grabbed onto his shirt and shook him a little. And if she could then why didn't she heal him in the hospital when he passed out after Homecoming? Or after he jumped off the roof in the pilot and ended up in the hospital?
We haven't seen any duplication of powers yet, even in families where both parents have them (DL can dematerialize, Nikki has superstrength, Micah can control technology (and how did DL and Nikki find each other?)) Peter and Sylar have *similar* powers, but the mechanism is entirely different.
So whatever power Mama Petrilli has, and I'm convinced she does have them (and that the boys are Linderman's sons), it's probably not flying or power absorbtion. I think she has an ability to discern truth. Not telepathy, since that's taken.
And she totally knows what her boys feel about each other.
Oh, my God, that would make me laugh SO HARD if that were true.
I think the only reason I'm leaning towards her sharing a power with one of her sons is that aside from the prophetic dreams (which most people have attributed to Charles Deveaux) Peter's displayed no other power we can't reasonably explain as some superhuman he's already met.
You know what I'm starting to think she's got? True empathy, not the crap empathy Peter's supposed to have. (Not that I don't love Peter's powers, but ... empathy? No, but nice try.) I think she senses emotions in others. Peter would simply attribute it to his own powers at work and it would play into the way most of these powers are a metaphor about the way these people really are. Mama Petrelli is so cold ("She warms up. Sort of." HEE.) that I'm sure it would come as quite a shock if that's a play on her sensing the emotions of those around her. And it would certainly fit with how manipulative she can be -- what better power to toy with people than that?

Except an ability to find people. It doesn't seem superhuman at this point, but he's got a knack for it - finding Ando in Texas, and also Claire, for example. If Angela Petrelli is a human manifestation of the Tracking Thing Bennet described, then that might be it.
Maybe?
(And I'm spoiler-free for hte rest of the season so I may be completely 180 degrees wrong on this.)
Well, that's true. I could totally believe that's her power, although it seems pretty odd he'd be siphoning that power and yet others have just as weird a chance of randomly running into other Heroes. (Hell, look at Nathan and Hiro -- they're on, what, their third chance meeting already?)
Holy crap, I didn't even think about the tracking system. What if she's not a manifestation of it? What if she's it? She's still working for The Agency and now the Bennet/Matt/Ted Bus Ride Of Doom is coming after her!
I'm thinking that Mama Petrelli can sense other supers. She obviously knew about Haitian Sensation and her kids, not to mention Claire. Plus, it's subtle, so Peter might not even realize it's there. He seems to initially only "pull" powers by accident or survival instinct and if he doesn't know he has it, he can't use it himself.
