And my major thoughts on the end of Grey's, which was the only part I've gotten to see so far:

1. Burke, you DICK.
2. Oh, great, now we get to see McDreamy cheat on Meredith with her own sister next season. Fabulous.
3. GODDAMN IT, SHOW, YOU GIVE ME MY ALEX/AVAREBECCA AND THEN SHE LEAVES?! *headdesk*
4. I love Callie, but ... chief resident? Seriously?! Over Bailey?
5. Joe and Walter and BAYBEEZ. Which is exactly what I squealed when I saw them holding the twins. D'AWWWW.

I still haven't seen the season finale of Ugly Betty yet, but I spoiled myself a little and bwahahahaha! If that Fey-was-Amanda's-mom thing is true then a great big thank you to one of my shows for gleefully dragging a possible incest pairing into play. \o/

Bailey wasn't in the running, was she? Not that I regularly watch this show or anything.

She's a fourth-year and Callie was a third-year, if the TWoP recap was right.

That's weird, then.

Exactly! And she organized the whole goddamn free clinic.

I just DO NOT GET IT.

Date: 2007-05-18 02:48 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] penmage.livejournal.com
Yes. She was. And there's no reason why she shouldn't have gotten it. Even the chief said, straight up, that if he could, he would have made Bailey chief and skipped all those other guys.

Stupid angrybad episode.

Seriously, I haven't seen the whole episode yet but I just can't wrap my head around how she wouldn't be the most qualified. I mean, she organized an entire free clinic, for God's sake.

This episode was stupid. All of it was stupid. From start to finish. You know how they could have made it not stupid? By making the entire episode about (a)Richard and Adele, and (b)Joe and Walter and Serena and the babies.

Because they were the only nonstupid parts of the episode.

Dude, I haven't even seen it yet and I want a show about Joe, Walter, Serena and the babies over the Addison spinoff. A happy gay couple and babies! All I need, really. :)

I feel like writing a letter.

Dear Show,

Why can only gay couples be monogamous and noncheating and happy? I mean, come on, this is ridiculous. Can't you have at least one healthy straight couple? (And the Baileys don't count, because Mr. Bailey is offstage 99% of the time.)

Nolove,

Me.

This was one of the reasons I was so pissed about Denny dying -- because I was hopeful that everybody would be worried that they'd fall apart given time together, but then they'd turn around and make them sweet and lovable, thereby leaving everybody else to question their own relationships.

I'm sorry, was I thinking about it too much to be hired for the GA writing staff? Or should I have been more prepared for Denny to cheat on Izzie with the nurse giving him sponge baths?

Date: 2007-05-18 03:34 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] penmage.livejournal.com
Nonononono. What was actually supposed to happen if Denny hadn't died was the Izzie was going to walk in on Olivia giving Denny mouth-to-mouth, and then refuse to talk to anyone about it for weeks and actually learn that she was saving his life, not kissing him.

And then he would have gotten better and she would have gotten her shit together and said something like "I forgive you" and expect him to come back into her arms, but he would have steadily looked at her and not given her another chance to be a dick, and walked out of the hospital and out of her life.

So Izzie could cry on the bathroom floor some more.

That's the Greys way of doing things.

And if Denny HAD been cheating, he'd better not take any big tests soon afterwards because if Grey's has taught me anything it's that cheaters fail tests.

Huh. I guess every time I heard about it, it was always the chief saying "Someday, Dr. Bailey, you're going to be chief resident" so I figured she couldn't get it yet or something.

I think he said chief of surgery, not chief resident.

...Yes. Yes he did. I totally don't watch the show enough to realize there was a difference.

Heh. I'm always so confused by the process of becoming a doctor I'm amazed I actually remember that. :)

Date: 2007-05-18 03:03 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] penmage.livejournal.com
Yeah, but you'd think someone qualified enough to definitly for sure someday be chief of surgery based on thier current qualifications would be an automatic shoo-in for chief resident.

That is, if this show wasn't creating bad, unnecessary drama in places it doesn't need to exist in.

AMEN.

And how the hell did George flunk the intern exam? Was that some stupid payback for his Awful Evil Cheating?

What is it with GA and cheating? Do the writers think it's hot, or interesting, or something? It just really, really squicks me.

From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
I don't even get it. I said over on ONTD that I'm really freaking sick of being told by this show that every great love story starts out as either unethical, secret, or adulterous.

*nods fervently*

Exactly. It's one of the reasons I didn't get past 3 episodes, because S1 had already aired and I knew about the Derek/Meredith/Addison triangle. And Derek didn't tell Meredith he was *married*, and *this* is the primary couple on the show? UGH. UGH UGH UGH.

Date: 2007-05-18 03:19 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
What really bothers me looking into the future is that I can almost see the "I choose ME!" ending of the show where Meredith doesn't stay with Derek after all. In which case, why do I care about him repeatedly emotionally manipulating her again?

Date: 2007-05-18 03:37 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] penmage.livejournal.com
Derek is a dick and I don't have patience with him anymore. Or with anyone on this show, really. Aside from maybe Cristina and sometimes Meredith, and poor Callie who did nothing to deserve all this crap, and Addison who's awesome, and Bailey who's awesomer. And sometimes Mark.

Where did Finn go again?

From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
Derek had me for about five seconds when he and Meredith finally got over themselves and got together without angst. And then all of a sudden she was alternating between over herself and not over herself but with DAMN good reason and he was just being a bastard. AGAIN.

I just ... why am I supposed to like this man? Is it just because he's handsome? Because for that I could watch Sweet Home Alabama and at least he'd be a sweetheart for two hours.

I really don't like what they're doing to these characters at ALL. At the expense of questionable storylines they're turning appealingly flawed characters into liars, cheats, bitches and asshats.

Where did Finn go again?

Away. He was smart.

Yes. And screwing over all the characters on the side of good. Bailey didn't get chief resident. Addison can't have babies, chief, or happiness. And even Alex is portrayed as being too late to make the right choice - to take a married woman away from her husband.

Why does this show bother with marriage at all? It doesn't seem to respect it any more than Hollywood celebrities on thier sixth marriage do. Marriage is supposed to mean something, and not just a That's It We Made A Vow the way Izzie keeps spewing in her little minitantrums. It's supposed to mean a certain commitment, a strength of relationship, and none of the married characters on this show (Bailey excluded for obvious reasons) seem to understand that. The creators, neither.

I watched the season finale of Ugly Betty. Not Grey's though. hat did Burke do now? Did he leave Cristina at the altar? Because thats not cool.

From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
She was having a little freak-out in the back of the church -- she was still going to walk down the aisle, but it looked to me like she just needed to get that out -- but Burke came down and went out into the vestibule and told her she didn't want to get married to him. And she protested, saying, "I really think I do," and then he said something like, "It would be really nice if you didn't have to think."

And then she went home and Meredith found her standing in the living room of her apartment. She said something along the lines of, "At least he didn't leave," but Cristina pointed out that his trumpet and picture of his grandma and stuff were gone, and then she FREAKED and started ripping at her choker and her beautiful wedding dress until Meredith finally cut them off, and she hugged Cristina while she broke down and cried. And it hurt.

...aw. I feel a little bit like crying now. Cristina deserves better. They should introduce a new character next season, give Cristina her perfect person. Cristina is one of the characters that has NEVER failed me.

Grey's has become like the last season of Buffy for me. A few scattered moments of "YES. Now THAT is why I love this show." are not enough to keep me from noticing the giant vortex of misery that sucks almost everything endearing from all of the characters.

I cried when Cristina started talking about how Burke had left, and I was completely done for when she started tearing at her clothes. Of all the people in the show I wanted a happy ending for, it was Cristina and Burke and it just got ripped away and despite all signs that it wasn't going to end well, I didn't see it coming. :(

Callie getting chief resident drove my eyebrows up into my hairline. It felt like it was done just to be clever (lookit the cool twist!). Never did I see anything from Callie during the season that said chief resident (as awesome a character and doctor as she is). Her competition was Bailey, who started the and ran the free clinic in addition to her surgical duties, all while managing five interns. Her only flaw was that she didn't delegate as often as she should.

I'm totally with you on that. Just...how?!

Meep!

According to Shonda's blog she goes on and on about how the Chief thought Bailey wasn't giving her family enough weight. Which, if that's the reason she didn't get the job, is illegal.
