Le sigh.

Why do I let myself get into arguments over controversial subjects when I know full well that regardless of how smart I may be any subject I feel passionately about reduces me to my stuttering rambling worst? I know what my point is, for God's sake. It'd be really nice if I could get into a discussion on abortion without getting stuck on the same point because I stammer and try to recover by rephrasing badly.

So, yeah. Today's cookout with friends was fun except for the parts that degenerated into arguments over politics and religion and abortion that had to be ended with someone yelling, "So, how cute are bunnies, huh?"

(Answer as decided at the cookout: Very, as are kittens and puppies, although an amalgam of all three would either be dangerously wee and adorable or the most evil thing ever created.)

And what's WORSE is that, because I have the best, most logical opinions on Important Things like politics and abortion, there are really no logical arguments based on anything other than, "That's just how I feel," or "The bible says so," and I can't argue against that because it's not an argument, and just AUGH. I don't need everyone to agree with me about everything, just the important logical stuff that has a basis in facts and reality instead of personal fantasy. GRARGH.

I swear to God, this is half the reason I'm a writer. I mean, if I sit down and express myself through the written word I have the chance to think out what I'm saying and edit accordingly until I can present my ideas clearly and thoroughly. Whereas when I'm in an argument about something I get excited and out comes ye olde speech impediment, which means I'm either stuttering or repeating the same words and phrases over and over again before I move on, usually the latter.

I know exactly how you feel. Whenever I talk politics with my girls it always goes bad. Always. And we get into these very heated arguments and, when I get really agrivated and angry I get tears in my eyes. Annoying as hell. People think I'm crying but I just get so angry and... *sighs* Yeah.

This is why I have to "agree to not agree" with the vast majority of my family - and do my best not to talk about religion and human rights. Thankfully my friends tend to share my stance on things, or respect my opinions on things, even if they are a bit "odd" in their opinion.
