What I'm supposed to be doing tonight: Going to the first night of my work shift.
What I did: Took a vacation day to sit home and have a mental health day with a six-pack of Smirnoff Raw Green Tea. (I didn't know they made this stuff! Hmm, pretty good, too.)
Clearly, I win and everybody else I work with LOSES. *twirls around the room*
Oh, yes. I almost forgot.
I'm glad Micah is gone. Aside from the crack about vanilla being boring in the commercials (shut it, Micah), I was about as annoyed by the whole "I miss my daughter" thing as Hung was. Yes, I get it. You love your daughter. But it's not like you're going away forever and you'll never ever get to see her again. I just ... why do some reality show contestants have the sense not to talk about their kids on their shows to the point where we didn't even know they HAD kids for ages (See: Dr. Boogie) whereas some people will talk about their kids endlessly while they're there? I'm sorry, I'm sure they're very sweet, but I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR KIDS, CHEFTESTANTS. I WANT TO SEE YOU COOK. You're in a stressful environment already, feel free to blame it on that -- I think Dave is a classic example of getting overemotional all the time, but at least about shit that's going on in the kitchen. Sheesh.
Ahem. So, yeah. Bye, Micah. Won't really miss you.
CJ's growing on me. Then again, he's just growing, period. I mean, 6'8"? Jeez, dude, stop eventually. Heh. (Also, he's a nutclops. That's awesome.) But the tuna thing was just ... ew. That looked gross.
Another one growing on me -- Hung, surprisingly enough. I was kinda iffy on the whole dropping-the-crawfish thing (would it be so awful to pick it up, dude?), but he won me back when Padma was talking about the whole "family favorites" update and Hung said something like, "Uh, my family favorites were steamed fish and rice. Those looked gross to me." Hung, if it makes you feel any better, the examples looked pretty gross even to those of us who DID grow up with them. (The oven thing was ... meh. On one hand, I don't think he should have been fucking with the oven if she was using it, too, but on the other hand I wondered where the hell she was when her dish was cooking. Seriously, when I'm cooking I'm checking everything constantly.)
Howie's been getting on my nerves but he won me back a little with winning tonight. That pork chop and applesauce update did look yummy. I just wish he weren't so damn serious all the time.
I really hope Brian doesn't turn into another Ilan, instead of with seafood rather than Spanish food. He seems like he's a decent-to-good chef given the opportunity, and we already had a one-trick-pony win last year, thank you very much. *seethes*
