Ask me questions. About anything, within reason.

Oh, my God, I'm SO out of it. *sighs*

So this is what I learned about Pennsylvania thanks to "The States":

- We have Philly and Pittsburgh.
- We used to dig coal until it wasn't worth it, but now we use the mine shafts to grow mushrooms.
- Amish people are awesome!
- Heinz ketchup is from here.
- Oh, and Hershey chocolate.
- Centralia's still on fire.

Can I just say that the fact Centralia hasn't been used in an SPN episode is a crime? It's a ghost town and it's on fire. (Well, okay, the coal veins under it, but whatever.) COME ON.

Centralia's still on fire.

Oh man, in my Geo103 class we took a field trip there. It was awesome (from an geology pov). You're right. Why hasn't it been used in an SPN episode?

*wanders away*

I wrote this whole set of Harry Potterverse fics where the American version of Hogwarts is located in Centralia! Hee!

Ok, I'm intrigued. Are they posted anywhere?

No... and apparently I have them stored on the missing backup drive from my old computer - which most likely also has the best damn story I've ever written on it... gah!

When I find it, there will be a celebratory post - and then lots of spam to my writing filter... *sigh*

Wow, I'd never heard of that Centralia fire before. I was just reading about it on Wikipedia - they reckon that fire could carry on burning for another 250 years. That's amazing!

Man, you know, right after I managed to nab Arizona for [livejournal.com profile] spn_50states I realized I could've picked PA and done a full-length extension of the Centralia bit in my Big Bang and kicked myself for like, a solid week.

Huh, wow, I didn't know about that Centralia thing either, and my grandfather was a coal miner one county over from there. Interesting! :)

Dean Koontz wrote about Centralia (though he called it something else) in his novella Strange Highways. I read it, and really, there's no mistaking what the book's about. There can't be too many nearly-deserted ghost towns in Pennsylvania where the town is being consumed from below by a mine fire that cannot be extinguished.

Centralia was also apparently the code name and partial inspiration for Silent Hill.

At last count, nine people were still living there (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centralia,_Pennsylvania).

Do you prefer Dean or Sam? And why?

Oh, man, there's so many ways I could go with that. I like Dean as a character more -- kind of a jackass but a good guy underneath it all -- but I like writing Sam more because he's a moody little bitch but he's damn clever. If they were real guys I'd rather fuck Sam (oh, MAN, the biting) but I'd rather marry Dean (he loves his family, he's good in a crisis -- unless it's on a plane, heh -- he's more apt to be honest with me).

Ghost town. Underground fire (is it really caused by ignited coal from garbage?). Murdered Molly Maguires. You're not kidding, how is this NOT an episode?

Those black and white seam mammals? Do you call them orcas, killer whales, or just whales?

Killer whales, definitely. :)

Dude, you hurt their feelings! But good to know. People around me call them whales and I've picturing one like in Finding Nemo, you know?

HA! Well, when I think of "killer whales" I think of the one in Free Willy, but when I think of "orcas" I think of one of them eating Bo Derek's leg. Heh.

...why is that not an episode yet? WRRRRRY? Sam and Dean go to Silent Hill! Life is grand.

Amish people are apparently a worldwide phenomenon. That was the only thing that most of the English people I talked to knew about Pennsylvania. "Your state has those funny people!" "The Amish?" "Yes, them!"

XD

I think the most important thing we can learn about the Heinz company, though, is that the Heinz boys are hot. ^^
