I took Emmett up to my parents' house so that my dad could bury her ('cause if you'll remember, Emmett was the boy chinchilla my parents got me when I moved in who turned out to be a girl) and now I'm watching Elliot, who seems mostly okay, and I'm thinking, "Well, crap, poor thing just lost his best friend." When I figured out Emmett was a girl I was going to separate them, except they freaked out when they were separated and wanted to share the same cage. And when I found her he was hiding in the bathhouse like he didn't want to come out. *sigh*

Oh, and for added fun when I went up to my parents' house with the chinchilla my brother was there, and to make me feel better he made me lunch, and as we were sitting in the living room watching Scrubs and eating, Simon -- one of my mom's cats -- walked through the room stumbling around like he was drunk, foaming at the mouth, and randomly shitting all over the place on his way upstairs. And if there was any worse time to run out of paper towels, I don't know what was. (I don't know if my mom's going to make me take him to the vet when I take the kitten tomorrow or if she's going to take him herself tonight or if she's going to make my brother take him, but since he pretty obviously ate something he shouldn't have he may get over it by tomorrow. Who the hell knows?)

Thank God I still have one hard green tea left, is all I can say.

*grumbles*

On a funnier note, another thing my brother did to make me feel better (you know, before the whole cat incident) was declare, "Hey, you want to hear the greatest song ever made?" and proceeded to play something on his computer that had me dying laughing.

Me: *in between giggles* You know this is going on my Livejournal, right?
Bryan: Yup. *beams*

Is Simon an outdoor cat, or does he go into the garage? I know the stumbling drunk thing is a sign of antifreeze poisoning, which is pretty bad.

Poor Elliot. It's always so sad when they lose their friend. Give him some extra love for all of us.

No, he's an indoor cat. I guess my mom said one of the cats did the same thing last week (the crapping all over the house part) but she didn't know who, so now at least she's pretty sure it was him. He's been known to eat what he shouldn't before and end up puking or defecating all over, so this is nothing new with him.

Gotcha. Poor guy. I have a cat that eats plastic bags, but surprisingly they just wind up in the litter box. It's like gift-wrapped poo.

God, that sucks so hard. Poor Elliot. Poor Emmett. Poor you. :(

Well, Elliot doesn't look like he's that bad off right now, and I took him out and held him in front of the fan to make sure he was cooled down (which I'd never done before). I swear I've never seen him so contendedly calm before -- he's pretty energetic and curious so he's always squirming, but he just basked in the breeze and kept stroking his whiskers, which was adorable. :)

The fan is a good idea -- when our AC was out for like a month and I read about rabbits having a really hard time coping with heat, I was wiping Trixie down with a wet rag several times a day to try to cool her off a bit. She didn't seem to object too much.

I'm glad your brother was able to make you laugh. Poor Simon, I hope he'll be okay and I hope Elliot is going to be all right in the cage. I've never had caged animals (I've had cats and dogs), so would it be better to move him into the other cage for a bit?

I have no freakin' clue what song he could have played. I'm just hoping it's not by REO Speedwagon.

I'm so sorry about Emmett, honey.

Er, as regards my answer to your poll, sometimes tasteless is just unavoidable when it's perfect.

I've had the song put in stuck in my head since I saw the Doctor Who finale. Totally the best scene if you haven't gotten around to it yet.

I'm so sorry to hear about your chinnie. I'm in Michigan, and we've been worried sick about our guinea pigs since the heat started climbing. We've resorted to wrapping frozen water bottles in dishtowels and laying them in the cages for them to cuddle with, which really helps.

I hope things turn out well with your mom's kitty. Could he be epileptic?

Hmm, I'll have to try something like that. I've got a couple of those freezer mugs -- maybe I'll put one of them in there, because this fan's pretty crappy, all things considered.

I doubt he's epileptic -- knowing him and considering how long we've had him, it's a lot more likely he ate something he shouldn't.

Oh man, sorry to hear about Emmett. :\ I know I worry like hell about the heat, considering we have a 'chilla and three ferrets, all of which are prone to heatstroke or worse.

We found our chinnie likes ice cubes, by the way. He'll try and pick them up, then end up holding them against the floor and biting pieces off. They seem to help him a bit, at least.
