... about that link to what Sam and Dean really wear.

-- If Sam and Dean are going to invest in anything, a couple hundred dollars on a pair of a good durable boots seems like a real priority from two guys raised by a Marine. You know how long cheap boots last? Not long, that's for damn sure.

-- Speaking as someone who goes to the Salvation Army all the time, it really isn't outside the realm of possibility for them to go in there and find a brand-new pair of never-worn eighty-dollar designer jeans from the Gap for sale. No, really, even in the guys' section. Sure, you have to dig through twenty pairs of jeans you could pitch and hold a circus under and another twenty pairs that went out of style in 1976 and another twenty pairs stained with paint or oil or worse, but having gone through the guys' section for shirts and hoodies guys are just as guilty as women of buying something new, stuffing them in a drawer and completely forgetting they exist.

-- We are remembering it's not their money, right? So even if they were buying them new, the guy whose credit card they're using they can certainly afford it.

-- Dean might not normally shop in a Gap or a Nordstrom's, but then again the salesgirls in my Gap and Nordstrom's are REALLY hot.

-- Considering how freaking big Sam is, I can only imagine it's the exact opposite (and the exact same) as me buying any pair of jeans I see that fit me without having two or three inches of extra denim hanging past my ankles, even if I don't have enough money to waste on them, just because they're there. Seriously, if I were in a store with my rent money, my car payment, and the money I needed to go to Wincon and I saw a rack of 6/7 flared jeans that ended exactly where they're supposed to ... well, I wouldn't be going to LA or have a roof over my head, that's for damn sure.

Testify.

My favorite pair of Luckys is from Goodwill. Got them for $6.99.

I also once scored a NWT pair of $200 (authenticated later) designer jeans for $20 at a Buffalo Exchange.

what does NWT mean? I keep seeing it describing items listed on eBay but I have no idea what it means! I figure it has something to do with 'never worn' but I could be far off.

I live in an area that has trailer-park poor on one side and quite well-off/rich folk on the other. If you troll through the Goodwills and Salvation Army stores on the upscale side, you can find some interesting stuff, including very nice, unused shoes and good jackets. I once found a beautiful, old-fashioned dress that I really loved at a Goodwill for only a few dollars.

So it's not unbelievable that the guys could find some sturdy clothes in used stores, if they knew where to look. It *would* make sense for them to invest money in things like good boots and coats that would last a long time.

Exactly. I've seen a couple of people already saying, "Why would they go there when Wal-Mart is cheaper?" Dude, why would they go to Wal-Mart when Sally's is cheaper and might even have better stuff?

Seriously, I've bought much better stuff at the Salvation Army than I've bought at Wal-Mart and Target. Wal-Mart clothes are cheaper than dirt but as durable as a newspaper in a rainstorm. I've bought perfect never-worn American Eagle cargo pants that had to have been fifty bucks for five at the Salvation Army.

Wal-Mart is also more likely to have security cameras, guards, and instant credit card rejection. Older stores, or second-hand places might have instant credit; or they might have those old machine things where the cashier takes a copy of the card. They're less likely to have good security, too-that's important, in case the guys did have to run for it.

Blundstones are good farmers' boots, and they make them in HUMUNGOUS sizes. Apart from knee-high gumboots, they're the footwear of choice around here. I don't know if they're expensive in the US, but they're not that dear in Australia, for their quality.

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure of cost but I highly doubt they're worrying about cost when they're buying their shoes.

See, when it comes to details like that, I just figure that the costumers get free stuff from the designers, and one brown shirt looks like another. And really, how many people are going to check.

Oh, definitely. I've never looked at any of those clothes and said, "Oh, man, Dean shops at the Gap?!" and I don't really know anybody who has.

On the other hand, were they to suddenly mention wearing clothes from Nordstrom on the show, I can totally understand exactly where they got them -- buried in the racks at Goodwill. Those clothes do have to come from somewhere, after all, and it's not always your grandmother's attic. :)

Except that Sam's jeans are always too long, and ripped at the bottom. I really really want to know how a 6'5" tall man only finds jeans that are too long.

Too long's better than too short. And considering how long they were riding in "Dead in the Water" they probably fit fine when they're not hanging from his ass. ;)

I'm perfectly all right with them hanging from his ass. *g*

I'm perfectly all right with him not wearing them at all. :)

But I really watch the show for its intellectual value. Really, honest!

I shop at Value Village, which really is the equivalent to Salvation Army and Goodwill and all of those second-hand shops, because it's really ridiculous to pay ninety fucking dollars for a fucking t-shirt.

And I can't imagine what it must be like to try and clothe Sam.

You know, I was going to make just that point earlier. Then I got distracted.

::nods firmly::

A lifetime's practice of digging through Goodwill racks totally prepares one to find $200 designer jeans for ten bucks. Duh. :)
