It's going to be stuffed full of comments after today. :)

So, just to make this one easy -- pimp something!

Pimp anything in the comments. Movies, TV shows, books, comics, your favorite conditioner, those potato chips you can't get enough of, whatever. Anything at all that more people should know about because they'd like it, pimp away!

(For the record, I'm going to continue to pimp Pushing Daisies until I'm blue in the face.)

If you haven't seen Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, you need to. Now-ish. Robert Downey Jr plays a small-time crook who teams up with private detective Gay Perry (Val Kilmer) to solve murder mysteries in Hollywood. He also narrates because, hey, it's his film, and he's an idiot but he's an idiot in love with a woman who beats up a transformer with a baseball bat who accidentally cuts his finger off after he goes to bed with her best friend.

Larry (which is to say, Mr Downey) screws up a lot. Perry is badass and awesome and definitely Kilmer's best role since Tombstone. It's basically awesome.

I want to second this rec for Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. It reminded me just how good RDJnr and Val Kilmer are.

1. I just finished reading "Princess Bride", and it's great. Pirates and princess and a hero, and a spanish guy who speaks english and... it's very good.

2. The comic "The Sandman", because it's too awesome for words. It's too awesome for everything.

(I've been awake for way too long. Adjectives are failing me. Sorry.)
(Good night!)

Wanted to add The Harry Dresden Series by Jim Butcher - a series of books following Chicago's only wizard listed in the yellow pages. Funny and sharply written it takes Harry's supernatural world and drops it right into contemporary Chicago.

After that - Rob Thurman (female author) who has started a series about two brothers - the younger one is half-elf (the dark twisty kind of elf) and the old human but has vowed to protect his younger brother once they find out he's a target for elves. As a result they both go on the run ... and well, let's just say she's Eric Kripke's twin on paper. Two books have been released Moonshine and Night Life. Absolutely brilliant stuff.

GIMP. (Also here for Windows.)

If you've ever had the yen to icon or make graphics or banners and can't afford Photoshop's $600 price tag, this is what you want. GIMP is free, legal shareware, it's just as good as PS or PSP, and you'll still be able to pay your rent next month. :)

BURN NOTICE.

Its this totally awesome show on USA (Thursday, 10 PM EST, RIGHT AFTER SUPERNATURAL HOMG!) about a secret agent (Michael Westen, played by... Jeffrey Donovan!) who's had a burn notice put out on him and he's stuck in Miami, FL while trying to figure out who burned him.

It has the bonus casting of Sharon Gless as his mother, and--wait for it--BRUCE CAMPBELL as his best friend Sam.

I bring you the best chocolatey-tasting cookies in the world (http://www.worldpantry.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce/ExecMacro/nspired/ococos/home.d2w/report). Organic, 90-calories-per-serving, and truly, truly delicious.

Also, Fruit chips and vegetable chips (http://www.flatearth.com/). No, really. It's not as weird as it sounds - they are yummy, and they count as half a serving of fruit/vegetables. My favorite are the 'Wild Berry Patch' chips.

Seconding Gibson - I'd start with the anthology Burning Chrome to get a taste for his style (READ JOHNNY MNEMONIC DO NOT STOP TILL YOU DO FORGET THE MOVIE HOMG CAPSLOCK)

Also Niel Stephenson - Snow Crash. It's about a guy who lives in a storage unit with a Russian rock star but is the BADDEST MOTHERFUCKER IN THE METAVERSE, a take-no-shit skateboard deliverygirl named Y.T., and fuckin' Sumerian mythology. My favoritest book EVER.

dude, deadwood. [livejournal.com profile] vylit and i are watching this together, and it's seriously one of the best shows i've ever seen. well acted, well written, and oh my lord the historical accuracy for sets and costuming just blows my freaking mind. plus it's got jim freaking beaver on it, which is made of win forever, and i hear tell that in season three we get a gale harold. but yes.

not to mention that i'm inclined to love any show that finds that many new and creative ways to use the word fuck, and where the insult of choice is cock sucker. \o/ my language has degenerated so much lately, and it's awesome.

Fruit: Hachiya persimmons. Available only in the fall. Heart-shaped (unlike the Fuyus which look like tomatoes and aren't as good.) must be eaten when soft and fully ripe. Honey sweet, perfumey heaven in your mouth.

Book: The World Without Us -- Incredibly interesting book about what would happen if man disappeared suddenly.

CD: The Slide Guitar: Bottles, Knives and Steel This is The Blues. Accept no substitute.
