... you know, 'cause I'm sitting here thinking about how I'm supposed to be working on my fanfic and yet there's plans for original fic tacked up on my walls.

Any of you fanfic writers got any original fiction planned? Or working on any right now?

I mean, I know some of you are but it always feel better to see other people obsessed with multitasking. :)

(Besides, some of you people NEED to be published, honestly.)

I keep telling myself I'll devote time to the novel in November (NaNoWriMo and all) but the stupid SPN bunnies keep on invading.

It just seems...so much easier to write the fanfic. Not to say I don't try as hard as if the characters were my own.

Um.

Sorry. Nosing in by way of [livejournal.com profile] janissa11's flist.

God, tell me about it. Fanfic, you can just post. Original fic, you've got to go through so much to publish. *sigh*

I don't write a lot of fanfiction, but I used to. Now I'm obsessivly working on original fiction with one of my friends. And by obsessivly, I mean I have notebooks filled with stuff about the world we're setting this stuff in.

So not obsessed with note taking, but obsessed with stuff in general.

Sorry for rambling.

Yeah, that's the stage I'm at with the new stuff. I'm totally immersed in world-building, which is the part I'd rather just get past and write, you know?

Of course, I could just work on the Books of Boggs but then again it can hold for now. I really have to get fanfic out of the way first.

I think I'm a bit odd, because I world build and write at the same time. Which makes editting hell, but means that I can do the fun stuff at exactly the same time! It helps that I'm writing with someone else, because then we do a lot of the brainstorming together and can normally keep each others facts straight.

Well, I have to say that I fully support you writing fanfic as I really love reading it!

*raises hand* meeee! although I'm currently in a "oh dear god, I cannot DO THIS" portion of the original fic writing process.

*grabs your shoulders and shakes* YOU CAN DO THIS GODDAMN IT.

Er, I still have to sit down and read. I really need to clean my writing plate off.

I do. We've talked about this before, yes? I'm always puttering around between original and fanfic. I don't finish anywhere NEAR as much ofic as fanfic, though. I am a bad person, clearly. :P

HEE. Yup, you're one of the ones I know works on original stuff. :)

And I'm in the same boat where I'm writing more fanfic than original fic. I've really got to focus on the original fic for a while. *sigh*

I had an idea for an original fic a few days ago. Something along the lines of A.I./Bicentennial Man (robot wanting to be more human) and Jane Eyre.

I'm cracked out, and I know it. :)

Yes. I'm working on converting an unfinished long fanfic to a finished original character fic, and since one of the big reasons that fanfic did not get finished was that one of the characters WAS A GIANT UNHELPFUL DOOFUS it helps that in his new persona he's not a doofus any more (a little clueless on some fronts, but I can work with that *g*). And I've got a bunch of other original character fics I would like to work on and will at some point, I hope.

I plotted out a book awhile back, and I just started writing some of it. No idea if it will ever get done, as it's just for fun, but the plot just changed dramatically because of this news article. And is increasingly more fun as a result.

I've got an original fic novel I've been working on (oh-so-slowly) for a couple years now, though I doubt it will ever see the outside of my hard drive.

I have an original novel done. I started it for Nanowrimo years ago, finally finished it, and am seriously chickening the fuck out on looking for a publisher because I am fatally terrified of like, rejection letters out the wazoo.

I was doing perfectly well on several dozen original bits when I was stampeded by a rampaging horde of fanfic plotbunnies.

I was hoping to write it out of my system but instead I keep finding more.

I had an idea for an AU RPS a while back that I thought would be better suited to original fiction, but I've mostly just been thinking about it because original fiction is kind of way scarier than fan fiction. Ack.

Any of you fanfic writers got any original fiction planned?
Yup.

Or working on any right now?
Yup.

Am feeling rebellious and wanting to ditch my short stories and work on a play. Am much less competent at playwriting, but am so mortified, in retrospect, by my last (and only) one that I kind of want to put something new out there to compensate. Was so young when I wrote my first play; honestly kind of wish I were the only witness to it. Double-edged sword of being published/produced at any stage in your life, I guess, just potentially more embarrassing if you're a complete whippersnapper.

I definitely use fannish writing as a way to jumpstart myself when I'm stalled on my original work and I need to just put my fingers to the keyboard. Tends to work pretty well for me - eventually the sort of "muscle memory" of what it feels like to actively write (sans perfectionism) kicks in and I can get over whatever hangups are keeping me from getting a good start.
So the two complement each other well.

I have a four book dark fantasy series centered around the Lilith myth planned.

It would help if I had more than one half of the first book written. Heh.

Yeah. I've had some poetry and a short story published (in very small markets), and I'm working on a number of novels. I have hopes for them. These days I pretty much writing fanfiction as short stories and professional fiction as novel length.
