I think I'm going to stop doing NaNo.

No, wait, this is a good thing.

I'm not going to stop working on the novel I'm currently working on. That's not a problem. But with all the things I've got stressing me out right now -- work, money, college, etc. -- giving myself something else to make me worry is so not a good idea, and with my work schedule the way it is and the amount of overtime I'm going to have to take between now and Christmas trying to cram in writing like crazy is just not going to work. It especially isn't going to work for me this year with this stupid writer's block on my shoulders.

The thing is, I think what I need to do is something a bit like mini_nanowrimo, except more like just get in the habit of working on writing every day first and then try for writing a little bit every day again. I mean, when I'm sitting in my butterfly chair with the laptop in the morning and the next thing I know it's midnight and I've been alternately refreshing my friends list, checking my email, and playing Alchemy all day long that's not good.

I think at this point I need to take it one step at a time rather than diving headfirst into the deep end of the pool.

... of course, now I just need my internet to stop cutting in and out. *growls*

It's really not a bad idea... have you read the book by the dude who started Nanowrimo... 'No Plot, No Problem'? In the book, the dude talks about how you can choose any good month when you don't have that many obligations to do Nano... I've decided to do March 2008...

It's definitely good to have a month where you know you'll have at least the time to think about it (Whilst still being able to breathe). kribby is right too. You don't have to NaNo during November, though that's the vast majority of when people do it - mostly for moral support, I think. But with the flist that you've got, I'm sure you wouldn't be lacking in the moral support no matter what month you do it.

And regardless, it's supposed to be fun. If NaNo's turning into something to stress over, that's sad and totally not the point of the thing. =(

If you've all that stress on you, then it's the right thing to minimise the stress. Just do one hundred words a day of whatever you're working on, because it all adds up in the end.

There's no rush for the novel, is there? Isn't school and funding more immediate?

I needed the kick up the backside that NaNo could deliver, but then there are JanNo and AugNo and April Fools and and ...
