Hi, there! Hey, guess what? I can knit!

Yeah, it only took me a day to go from royally fucking it up to, "Hey, look at that wee little Smurf-sized afghan!"

Now I'm off to make a purple scarf that's as long as I am tall. And after that, gun cozies! (Not because I have guns that need cozying, although I'm perfectly willing to go out and buy a water gun so that I can give it a comfortable loving home and a tiny gun-shaped sweater.)

I really do want to make an afghan when I'm more comfortable with all of this. I've been wanting one that's white and purple and light green like my bedspread and I found the perfect yarn for it but I don't want to just ask my mom to do it if I can. Oh, and also an autumny one I can make during the summer and have ready for fall. And maybe a sweater when I figure out how and my God, I'm already addicted, aren't I? *headsmack* I may have been craftily deprived the past few years without my sewing machine, I think.

You should have seen my first scarf. It was a complete travesty, and done in the most hideous yarn. Since then I have moved on to bigger and better things, but we all start out saying, "Damn, I forgot how to purl/cast on/pull the yarn out of the stupid skein".

Well, I probably should follow the directions in the book I got with the kit, because there is a pattern for a scarf in there, but at this point I just want to practice the hell out of the basics until I've got some speed going. And since the yarn I've got is purple, which will go perfectly with the winter coat I got for Christmas, scarf! \o/ :)

Yes! Respect for the fundamentals. I find by the time you get to the end of the scarf, you've had plenty of practice.
