Hi, there! Hey, guess what? I can knit!

Yeah, it only took me a day to go from royally fucking it up to, "Hey, look at that wee little Smurf-sized afghan!"

Now I'm off to make a purple scarf that's as long as I am tall. And after that, gun cozies! (Not because I have guns that need cozying, although I'm perfectly willing to go out and buy a water gun so that I can give it a comfortable loving home and a tiny gun-shaped sweater.)

I really do want to make an afghan when I'm more comfortable with all of this. I've been wanting one that's white and purple and light green like my bedspread and I found the perfect yarn for it but I don't want to just ask my mom to do it if I can. Oh, and also an autumny one I can make during the summer and have ready for fall. And maybe a sweater when I figure out how and my God, I'm already addicted, aren't I? *headsmack* I may have been craftily deprived the past few years without my sewing machine, I think.

Others have beaten me to pimping Knitty (and Ravelry, and yarnharlot), so I'll settle for directing you towards Stitch n Bitch as being a really good handbook to get you going on the basics and offering up a nice selection of easy patterns (scarves and otherwise) to start out with, and Stitch n Bitch Nation as being more of the same only with more advanced techniques.
