apocalypsos: (boo writing)

So, yeah, I'm mostly taking a break from the book for a little bit because this chapter's bugging me and I don't even know why, although I think I'm having weirdness with the feel of it because I took a few days off because of work and now I'm trying to get back into it and this chapter's just not doing it. So I may skip ahead to the second chapter I've got dialogue sketched out for and write that one, since that one's a bit more ... um, insular, I guess? I don't know. I find it a LOT easier to write the main character by himself for a bit before I get into anything else when I sit down for a while.

I don't even know why that is, but I guess I feel like I don't know the guy yet. I mean, I do -- I know everything about him, I'm the one writing him for crying out loud -- but I feel like I figure out more stuff about him when he's cleaning his apartment or working or raiding his fridge and it makes me all giddy.

I'm also not going back and editing the chapters I've written already just yet, because seriously, if I go back and start editing, I'm never going to stop myself and finish the damn book. The funny part is that I haven't really sketched out the timeline as much as I've sketched out the plot -- or, you know, at all -- so I'm more worried about getting the action right than getting "next Friday" and "tomorrow night" right, 'cause I can always just go back and figure that out and fix that later. And at first I was all worried about trying to be as accurate with the timeline as I could manage, and now I just don't even care anymore. Heh. I think I'm letting myself have the timeline issues as a tension breaker -- like, I can make that a complete and total mess for now just as long as I keep the rest of the story neat as a pin. *snickers*

I'm still doing the dialogue first, action later style of writing. I've kind of gotten in this pattern the last couple of weeks where I can go to Panera after work and take my pen, notebook, and MP3 player and write out the dialogue for the two chapters I've got due, then worry about spending the rest of the week filling in the actiony parts. I haven't really done as much writing ahead as usual, which I think is less me having issues with the rest of the book and me just trying to pound out chapters instead. I also haven't written the ending yet, although I do have a general idea of what's going to happen and I'm pretty sure I could sit down and write it now if I wanted to. I just haven't.

Also, I physically based my main character on Heath Ledger. Um, yeah.

Okay, I'm going to go make some dinner for myself and then dive back into the fray again. *toddles off to feed self*

Hi, your personal lurker here... Just to say, that sounds absolutely awesome. I'm so happy that you got over your block! It sounds kinda weird but, y'know, writers of the world unite and all that? If your fanfic is anything to go by, it's gonna be fantastic, and, y'know, I can't wait for it to grace the shelves of my local Waterstone's ^_^

Good luck good luck good luck :)
