Apple pie!
May. 10th, 2008 02:20 pmMy mom's apple pie recipe, for my own reference (and, you know, if anybody else wants it):
2 1/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup water
3 lbs. apples, peeled and sliced
3 pats of butter
cinnamon to flavor
1/2 cup sugar
milk and sugar for top of pie crust
For crust, mix together flour, salt, and shortening. Mix to crumby consistency. Add water and mix well. Roll half of dough between two sheets of wax paper. Put into pie plate and cut off excess dough.
Put apples into tin. Add butter, enough cinnamon to flavor, and sugar on top. Roll out other half of dough between wax paper and put on top of apples. Flute edges, add extra dough if needed. Slit holes in top with knife. Sprinkle milk and sugar on top.
Bake at 325 degrees for about one hour.
I'm pretty sure all of that actually makes two pies -- she always makes two pies at once, so ... *shrugs* -- but I'll have to ask about that when she gets back from her trip, so I'll probably be altering this a bit tomorrow.
